Hi guys, just thought i'd ask if any of you have any magical substances for removing the warning stickers on a new bike. Got my sk8 in june & finally got round to pulling off the stickers last night, well pulling bits off them. After an hour :smt010 and a lot of picking & pulling i finally got one off the fairing, nearly pulled the fairing off in the process. Had a go at the one on the tank & gave up after 10 minutes. There has to be an easy way to get them off, any tips would be much appreciated before i loose my sanity:smt101

wd40? or a hairdryer? not sure though. Think the hair dryer is the correct answer

Make sure the bike is cold.
Then take a rag and soak it in some petrol, gently rub the rag over the sticker and wait a few minutes for the petrol to soak in. Then keep rubbing at it with the rag and you should find the petrol dissolves the sticker and you can just peel it away.
It helps if you can peel off the translucent layer off the top before you start with the petrol though.
Thats how I got mine off took about 10 - 15 minutes.
Get 'em nice and warm with a hairdryer and pull slowly. They'll be off in no time. To get any residue off (I doubt there will be any) try some paraffin. It's also bloomin GREAT at getting chain lube off anything. Bear in mind it is oily so would also need wiping off afterwards.

There's loads of posts on this if you do a search...I took my stickers off last weekend (had the bike since beginning of July).
The easiest (and most painfree way) by far is to:-
- Boil the kettle
- Pour some water (out of the kettle obviously!) onto a sticker
- Lift one corner, then keep gently pulling back on that corner whilst dribbling more hot water on the area you are pulling back.
This gets the stickers off no problem, however I think I did struggle with the one on the tank, which seems to have more adhesive on it and may even be a different type of sticker.
Anyway, I managed to get it off after a few mins but there was quite a bit of adhesive residue on the tank. If you spray a small amount of WD40 either directly onto the glue or onto a rag, it rubs off dead easy.
I'd say good luck, but you won't need it because it's dead easy if you follow the steps above.
You do know its an MOT faliure right?

have u done it yet??....
this took about 10 mins if that....
hold hairdryer to the sticker....push sticker off with a soft wooden spoon whilst keeping the hair dryer on it....
dip a rag in ur fuel tank to get a bit of petrol on it and wipe of the sticky residue that may be left over....
done....
but as viney says its an MOT failure and if the police see it without the stickers on they take it away and crush it.......:-)
done....

we use lighter fluid at work. The stuff you put in a zippo lighter like ronsonol should do fine, pour a little bit on the sticker whilst holding a rag underneath to stop it running down the bodywork. The lighter fluid kind of 'melts' the adhesive and breaks it down into a sludge. Pull the sticker off then use a fluff free cloth or a bit of kitchen roll to wipe away the glue. If you have to pour a bit more on to loosen any remaining glue, it should do the trick...
hope this helps
p.s. you'll get stopped by the police if you take the stickers off because it might not be a real road legal bike. (rubbish joke...)

ok yet again i stand corrected...........
a LOT of people have taken them off......
personall preference....
would like to make sarcy remark to grinch....
but after all the help the other day with the template i couldnt possibly!!!!
Be as sarcy as you like... after all I was. I just can't be bothered to take them off what is my winter hack.
Easiest way to remove them is buy a pot of thick yoghurt, park bike in drive before going to bed, coat stickers in yoghurt.
In the morning your neighbours cats will have licked the stickers off for you.

Heat them up with a hair dryer, slowly peel off, and then rube down gently with petrol using a clean cloth. Works everytime.

Put the stickers on EBAY with a starting price of £50. By the time you come out to your bike next morning some little s*** will have nicked them for you....
Just removed mine in 30 mins with a hair drier and WD40 thanks to this thread.. ;)
I spotted a neighbour still had his on today so I took them off with an angle grinder. He was jumping up and down with thanks! I couldn't quite underatsnd what he was saying but I understodd the emotion on his face. That's what neighbours are for.

Careful with the one on the tank. I bought a 2nd hand one off EBAY to replace a dented tank in my SV. It had an 'unleaded' sticker near the filler cap which someone had started to remove, but it had been laquered over in the factory. So the numb nuts had damaged the laquer in one corner and the only thing I could do to was to keep removing the sticker and lifted the laquer in the process.
So what had been a perfect tank was ruined by someone using a sharp object to start lifting this sticker. It'll be cheaper to get the laquer coat repaired, than getting my other tank fixed, but it sure is frustrating having to get this one sorted.
I removed all my stickers on my bikes with a hairdryer and some of this http://www.autoglym.com/enGB/product-proddetail.asp?v06VQ=GD&Range=1

Rights lads / ladettes,
My SV is the new one with the 'go faster' stripe running down the middle of the bike. As the white stripe seems to have either a seperate layer of laquer to the blue or it simply a sticker/transfer. I didn't want to use any spirits etc incase it took it off. I've managed to get the actual sticker off simply using hot (water, but now I'm left with a few marks of glue and not sure how to remove them!
Anyone have any adivce to the least harmful way of removing them?

IMO the removal of the stickers could raise questions as to why it was done...is it an aftermarket fairing, has it been dropped.
Do they really bother people that much?

rube down gently with petrol using a clean cloth.
The above answers the question, and WD40 also works.
