146x is one lightweight FS... I couldn't even get a demo on a poverty spec one when I was looking, and I wasn't willing to wait to get my hand on one at 3 months without a demo. Are the waiting lists still that long?

speedplay
09-05-12, 01:16 PM
Theres one in stock, my size that needs a few spec tweeks where I'm getting the demo from.

Riding it next to the five just makes the five, (although a really nice bike), feel massively overweight and sluggish
:(

Was looking at the orange gyro too.

AndyBrad

Right lads. Got my ride of hell tonight. 3 hours through unit woodlands . Got a new moon xp1500 and my trusty cree Chinese light.

Any advice for how to run them?

Yeah not surprised... The 146x is as light as lightweight alloy hardtails! In fact it's only 1kg more than my carbon hardtail which is impressive.

At double the price of the five i would be wanting it to feel light and non sluggish. Although my five am is probably scratching £4400rrp, different bikes for different purposes though I guess.

I would certainly do thing differently if I was doing it again.

Have you considered the santacruz tallboy if your considering the gyro?

Paul the 6th

oh and while we're at it how much could I sell my standard specialized hardrock sport disc for? Did consider selling it to fund a spesh pitch pro I saw sell on ebay for £700 (bargain for such a decent bike! barely used as well) but then realised I probably won't get much for it..

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Specialized-Hardrock-Sport-Disc-/200755381679?pt=UK_Bikes_GL&hash=item2ebdf405af - similar to this one..

If I could only just about scrape £100-£150 then I might as well keep it because I do love the bike a lot.

Paul the 6th
10-05-12, 08:52 PM
there was no mention of breakfast anywhere and I mainly txt the lads who went to dalby red route, andyb not got your number lol..

But was saying to AndyBrad we'll have to set a proper date and do it all again..

I think, particularly for the lads who are worried about climbs etc. that cannock offers decent enough downhill (and it is mega decent) without the uphill's being *that* bad.. whereas dalby is just up and up and up and up.. and by the sounds of it clandegno (feck knows how you spell it in welsh) is quite gruelling but with downhills worth the slog. Hence us unfit lads/those worried about it being too hardcore cannock offers the best balance - and it's nicely located (2.5 hours from york, 1.5 from barnsley, 2 hours from brighouse etc.) it's not exactly an epic journey is it..

andyb
10-05-12, 09:04 PM

Ha ha, cheeky git :D

She's not into Cannock shenanigans, she's more of a gently canal path pedal!

Drew Carey
10-05-12, 09:05 PM
As Paul says......not a hard amount of climbs, certainly not anywhere near as bad as dalby. In fact, in total, only approx 12-14 milesdepending on whether bits are shut etc. Doddle! Lol

Paul the 6th
10-05-12, 09:06 PM
worth sticking a date poll out maybe? or just organise it in here?

Drew Carey
10-05-12, 09:09 PM
Can do.....we still doing this Saturday though?

Also, could camp at Cannock for a bit of a laff if we organise in advance.

Paul the 6th
10-05-12, 09:10 PM
yeah definite mate, was meant to be in london but it fell through so decided I was gonna do cannock on my own at the very least :D

yeah that's exactly the thing with organising it properly, nick the greek can't camp this weekend but if we can sort it for future then beers, camp fire, bbq etc. at the end of it would make a solid quality weekend out of it :D

Paul the 6th
10-05-12, 09:15 PM

Absolutely awesome, just int bath washing off the blood & mud with a bottle of crabbies.

It all came together today, from waking up back home in west Yorkshire, the usual great banter, stunning trails, stonking weather, the guy in the Porsche gt3rs who passed us twice at full chat while we had our windows down on the a38 (thumbs up from me & nick and the Porsche driver & his passenger with big smiles :D).

This is what life's bloody about. :) epic day. Oh and nick said you seem like a top bloke drew. Badger I will attempt any hill once :)

Was a top day......let Nick know it was a reet laff with him chasing me and me chasing him on the downies. Top lad.

Now, do I go to SPDs now that the blanking plate of my 5:10s vanished or do I contact 5:10 and see if I can get hold of another?

These two weekend jaunts have made me realise how I need to get my fitness back up again.

Left handed for eating, dealing cards & hand party.

Just got in myself, cracking weather down here too, took a few pics that I'll post later. :( had 3 bottles of crabbier black label & feeling a bit merry already tbh, pain only got worse about 5 mins into 3rd bottle. Doesn't feel like a break but is quite stiff.. My back brake's buggered so been yanking on it all day whilst going over rocky descents, think the tendon is just inflamed.. Pain killers and alcohol have kicked in now, if it's worse in the morning I will definitely go.

Hydro's brakes getting purchased this week!

Looked on the website, but cant find contact details etc.......have posted on Bikeradar to ask. If not, then will go back to SPDs.....although would rather stay on flats....

However, cant ride without a plate as will bug the hell out of me as rattles and will let more crud / water in.

85km for me today... Felt like death at the end.

@paul was you wrist twanging during the day? Or did you fall on it... On of my cousins had poor wrist position, and always put to much weight on his wrists... Which is exajerated when tired. He ended getting carpal tunnel syndrome and has just had surgery. Worth getting checked out.

Rode same route last week, was absolutely fine, my back brake was rubbish today, thinking that squeezing it hard all the way down the rocky bits has f'd up the tendon like carpal tunnel syndrome but in my wrist. Gonna see how it is tomorra - if it's bad then a&e first thing

Here's a few of pictures from Glyncorrwg yesterday. Had a look at the stats from the ride and worked out that 7 miles of it was uphill, and my god is it uphill at the start of Whites Level/W2 but its all worth it for the 13 or so miles of downhill afterwards ;)

yeah, the cabins are a bit expensive though, the B&B in the lodge looks the better option and you can book any extra beds in the room your are in to make the room a private room

Paul the 6th
13-05-12, 11:08 AM
"The cabins sleep up to 5 people with twin beds and double and single futon in the lounge.

Each cabin has an attractive swiss cabin style design with wide double French patio doors that take in the view along with a well equipped kitchenette and modern bathroom with tiled showers.

Each cabin has cotton sheets and duvet bedding that is supplied on arrival, with colour TV that allows you to unwind with a DVD on quieter nights of your stay.

Microwave, electric cooker, fridge, kettle and toaster are standard in all log cabins at Bryn Bettws."

Nick was saying he'd be up for something like this yesterday & I asked his brother about joining us next time if we do Wales, he's up for it as well. That's 3 of us interested.

Anymore? Dates? Etc. :)
