View Full Version : Fitting new cylinder head cover gaskets
Hi all,
In the manual it describes the process of fitting new cylinder head cover gaskets. It mentions using 'Suzuki Bond' to seal the cam shaft end caps of this gasket.
Whats the favourite replacement for Suzuki Bond that works well? Silicone seal?
This looks like a good bet....http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?storeId=10001&catalogId=10151&partNumber=599738&langId=-1

Hylomar Blue or any non permanent gasket sealer. If the seal is in good nick it's overkill anyway.

Yeah just one mate
ah well, no worries. I needed two and ordered them straight away so as not to leave my bike in pieces, plenty more work to do after this job with the race season fast approaching.
thanks anyway.

I've never bothered, my covers have been on and off a few times and work perfectly with no sealant.

old thread bump,
do i need new cylinder head gaskets when removing the head cover to get to the cams? at £20 each they are a bit costly to replace if they dont really need doing
and do i just seal it(old gasket) with this when im done ?

No.
The cam cover[1] gasket is rubber so unless you damage it you shouldn't need to replace it.
Some people advocate using a smear of RTV or similar (like that locktite) when refitting to ensure oil tightness.

[1] And you only need to take the cam cover off to swap cams, not the head.

Never had to replace one yet. Let me know if you have any bother, I've got about 8 of the things up the back of the garage in the enormous box of former engines
