Well I gave in last weekend and ordered a set of these and fitted them . A couple of interesting things arose in that I have an ABM comfort kit on the bike and am using Renthal bars . Managed to workaround the problem and these guards can be removed in minutes should the need arise . I went to work this morning and instead of having my heated grips running at full whack , I had them on 25% power . What a difference these have made to Winter riding . I don`t care what they look like , they are staying on for Winter . One mate didn`t even notice they were there . Backs of hands were seriously toastier at 5:30 this morning having a blatt down the A55 to work :smt040

Well I'm sold!

I've been considering doing this for a while, sounds like it well worth it :)

IMO get some proper enduro ones with the big bar down the middle. Harder to fit, but they will save your levers in an offski.

This is more to do with keeping my hands warm , I had an off just after Xmas and the ball end came off the lever anyway but I still has a useable lever . Once the bad weather has gone these things will be coming off anyway .

Can you post some pics Badger? I have the ABM kit too and didn't think they would fit!

I've tried muffs, but they are too big and flappy, forever getting my hand stuck inside.

(Note U rating, the above does not refer to anything other than Oxford Muffs! ;))

I fitted a couple from ACERBIS, they're cheaper and IMO nicer.

Acerbis cheaper than £33 , blimey , and as I said , not bothered about the looks of them as they are on for the winter only and can be removed in seconds if need be :)

Yeah I didn`t go for them as I wasn`t sure of the room I would have on my bars , I liked the way the Suzuki ones pretty much used the mounting bolts of the clutch and brake lever . They look nice though , I had similar ones to those on my KTM a few years ago :)

On the previous page I said I would have to take some tomorrow , by the time I had read your message it was dark outside :) , the solution is so simple it`s daft LOL

just to point out the bolts for the bar ends are to long for a pointy - spent ages finding the right ones on ebay to do mine - those with a big tool kit may be able to use taps and dies and add the extra thread to the ones provided. - lozzo Ithik had posted picks of a bike with them on.

Yeah I never used mine as I have an ABM comfort kit with Renthals on and Renthal Bar-Ends , I could cut a thread on my spares for any Clip-On owners and swap them :)

You get new longer bolts supplied with the hand guards..
With the spacers in correctly, and the part for lining up the bolt, which i forgot to put back in first time around, it works fine..
Spacers + bar ends, the longer bolts fit fine on my pointy..

Do these handguards fit on a pointy S as well as the naked? Also, can I keep my r&g bar ends, with one long bolt on left and one short bolt on right :)

Some photos of the hand guards. Though on a DL not a SV, so maybe no help at all for the other posters!!!

I have/had these on my K8 pointy and they saved the levers on my recent off.

In fact....I'll be selling the guards (now my bike is written off) on here in the next few days. They are a bit scratched but will still keep the wind off.

do these handguards fit on a pointy s as well as the naked? yes

also, can i keep my r&g bar ends, with one long bolt on left and one short bolt on right :)yes...as you can see from the pics above, the handguard fits to the end of the grip/tube by way of a spacer, the bar end fits on afterwards.

Ok here are some pics of the Install on an ABM Comfort Kit equipped SV650S K3

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v605/xXBADGERXx/Image036a.jpg

This is the Left side Handguard , the Circled area shows a small patch where I had to cut out a bit of the Guard so it fitted snugly against the switchgear , used a Junior Hacksaw to do that and it took about 10 seconds to do , will tidy it up with a file and Paper when I remove them after the Winter .

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v605/xXBADGERXx/Image038.jpg

I then fitted the Renthal bar-end into the end of the Renthal bars and butted the Handguard up to the bar-end , a Stainless Penny Washer was placed over the plastic of the Handguard and the Allen bolt was then tightened up with a dab of Blue Loctite lipstick type stuff .

Front view . Like I have stated before , not the prettiest thing but they can be removed in minutes and have kept my hands so well protected that I didn`t bother with Heated Grips this week . Hope this has been some help to those with ABM kits :)

Sod it, im doing this to my bike too. I've not had the muffs fitted this week, and its been so much more manouverable. But it would be nice to have the gaurds to keep the wind off in the morning.

Wil order my set tomorrow.

Just wanted to check something:

found vstrom handgaurds for a K4 vstrom 650; will these happily fit onto my sv?

larigos

not sure as you have the curvy - the 650 ones come witht the fixing kit the 1000 ones don't.

BanannaMan

They will fit the curvy as well.

Grinch has had some on his curvy S.

I purchased some a while back but have yet to get them fitted on the bike.
(as I am a lazy git)
Right now I have no where to work on the bike unless it's warm enough ride it to my garage(work) in town.
But if it's warm enough to ride......(hasn't been alot).....I just go riding!

The bolts are too long for the S but the size needed is a common size and can be purchased anywhere that sells bolts.
65mm is the length needed. Can't remember the thread & pitch size though...maybe 8mm X ???..er.. something ????
Take an old one with you.

Bolts dont concern me, my dad is a mechanic...he;s got loads stashed about the place. I've got bolts and some other bits on my bike from pre-1980 cars :smt116

Ok, gonna order me some handguards. SuperTouring SV is getting there!!!

I'm not fitting side panniers yet though
