does fitting one of these aftermarket db killers to a non road legal can make it road legal?

who has a race can with one fitted and what does the mot tester say? if any thing?

just wondering!

For the can to be legal it needs to have a BS or E mark and number on it. So a "not for road use" can with a DB killer in it is not legal.

that depends on what you mean by road legal...

an illegal can could pass an mot and meet the noise requirements for road use but still be illegal because it was produced for non EU markets...

what about some thing like this tho, e marked so meets europe std. but does it really make the can legal, at the end of the day its not the way the cans work which is illegal its the noise,

if this e marked add on is going to chance the noise then im hopeing it makes the can legal.

It also depend if you have a "friendly" MOT man. I've seen a fully track prepped R1 (Racefairing, slicks, no lights etc) get a full MOT!

at the end of the day its not the way the cans work which is illegal its the noise,

it's not, or at least not entirely dependent on the noise, the E mark can simply mean that a product meets all construction and safety requirements for sale in the EU, i have E marks on the race system on my KTM and the racing slick tyres it came with, they're allowed to be sold and used in the EU but they're not road legal

the_lone_wolf's right, it's a can of worms ;)

Not only do you have the BS/E mark stuff, which may or may not be a formality (i.e. the can might well meet every standard, but it hasn't been tested as such - I assume by the standards organisation or something), but you have the whole "it can pass an MOT but the police can still do you for it" - because C&U regs are not the same ones as used in an MOT...

A can marked not for road use is illegal no mater how quite it is
a can with no markings is only illegal when its to loud same as a can with all the markings but no baffles

They changed that you don't need the stamps there judged on noise

Yes, for the MOT test they did, but C&U regs (what the police will judge you on at the roadside) are not the same...

my sons bike failed an mot with a race can stamped not for road use even though it had a bs stamped baffle inside.

yep, it's a specified point of the MOT test manual that any exhaust system must not be marked not for road use or similar, no matter what baffle you have in it
