View Full Version : Royal Mail Muck Up!

Posted an exhaust to l3nny last Tuesday, recorded delivery.

Been a week, and the tracking code only tells me its been accepted at my local branch.
Phone up for more infomation..

First Class Recorded = 1-2 days..
They only consider this as lost 18 days after it should have arrived, the 18th of May.
Phoned repeatly(sp?), all I get is, it will only get tracked if the sorting offices are efficient enough to scan them.
In other words, if the can be ar$ed.

Anyone know of anything else I can do in the meantime to try and find out where the parcel is?

Theres no issue with dodgy packaging, securely and safely packaged, so that shouldn't have been an issue.

L3nny checked down his local sorting office in case theyre holding it for unapparant reasons, but nothing there..

Am I worrying too much, or are these bar stewards always late on delivering?

Parcel goes from North East Scotland, to Warwick if thats any help.

Cheers, David.

In my experience parcels generally arrive pretty quick or very late, if it's gone walkies for a while it might well turn up in a week or two

Sucks when it happens but so long as it's insured you'll both get your money back, eventually!!!

Reciet: We do not pay compensation for money, jewellery or valueables sent by Recorded Signed For.
Bugger..

Bugger..

An exhaust is none of those things though

If you paid for insurance you'll get your money back

If you didn't then you've got to decide between the two of you who's going to lose out because RM will only pay for something like £36 of compensation in that case...

The mother posted it, as I was at work.
Theres a value of £39 which is on the reciet, which has no bearing to anything tbh.
Could be the maximum claim amount?

Just annoying thats all.. :\

Ye recorded signed for delivery ain't insured 'cus that's seperate (AFAIK). Signed for is just to make sure the right person signed :p i know someone who did the same with a few cds that got lost.

I'm sure it'll turn up... in my experience with D(rop it)H(ide it)L(ose it), you only have to worry when it hasn't left your local depot. This just means the guy in the van has lost it and it hasn't been signed at the destination, if it's at the destination, you should be ok.

Maybe L3NNY could check out his local sorting office?

depends if it's went via Sighthill (Edinburgh) sorting office as there was stikes there last week (although royal mail claim that this would not cause any disruptions, I'm waiting on something too)

Just so happens that my Mum runs the Post Office in Alford - which is also a delivery office.

I gave her a yell, she said that there is no way the parcel can go through the system without being tracked therefore it must be still at the delivery office on the system.

Where are you a bit more exactly?

Having just seen the bit about the strike, that could explain it too - along with the long weekend.

Oh, and if it IS lost then that £39 is all you can claim.....

Recorded is just about worthless these days for ensuring something 'gets there'. Had 3 blatantly 'bike related' parcels go walkies (never anything else mind).

Always go registered/special delivery, if one of those goes missing then it's traceable and actually insured.

So far i'm short A double bubble screen (off a seller here who went inactive not long after), baglux bag and a hugger........

Most 'Post Office' staff are reliable (who wants to risk a decent pension these days?) but thier 'casual staff' can be dire!

l3nny has checked the local sorting office, and I checked mine to check it wasn't still there.

Just so happens that my Mum runs the Post Office in Alford - which is also a delivery office.

I gave her a yell, she said that there is no way the parcel can go through the system without being tracked therefore it must be still at the delivery office on the system.
the two women on the 'helpline', when I managed to actually get a word in, told me that the parcel is not trackable, and the majority of offices can't be ar$ed to scan parcels, which makes it less trackable.
I replied, 'sh!te', theres no way something can go the length of the UK and no one has no idea where it is..'
She replied, 'its not trackable for you'.
Where are you a bit more exactly?
Posted from Maud, AB42 5LY, but further North than Alford.

Having just seen the bit about the strike, that could explain it too - along with the long weekend.
Didn't know about this, thanks thingus

Parcelforce for parcels.....Royal Mail for mail :(

Remember that in future...its suprisingly cheap to use parcelforce and worth the extra for incidents like this.

Without trying to generalise there is alot of dodgy people, who are treated like absolute crap and get paid bugger all at royal mail depots. Stuff goes missing all the time because of it.

remember this in the future, recorded delivery is just a signature thats all it is, parcels are better off with standard parcels with a added insurance for just £1 more insuring up to £100, if its really important then it needs to be special delivery but its expensive, special delivery doesn't go with standard mail its kept completely separate.

Well if you are over in Alford in Office hours, feel free to pop into the PO and ask for Helen - told her I would tell you that :)

Was at work, my mum thought she would do me a favour and post it.
There was a post-it on it for recorded special delivery and i mentioned insurance too, but shes getting forgetful in her old(ish) age.
Would have paid the extra for insured/special delivery if I was there.

It is not small, weighs 3.5 kgs, can't really be put in you're back pocket..

They did a great service for my neighbour once - they received a £300 sony ericcson mobile delivered to their shed.... MINE!!!! I got it a week later, but they insisted it was delivered to me....the driver signed it himself.:smt076

David, Recorded items are only scanned at the final destination delivery office after the delivery has been made/attempted. That's why they can't be traced yet. From this, I'd surmise it hasn't arrived in Warwick.

Generally things that are 'lost' are sent somewhere by mistake, as opposed to hidden in some dark corner for example so I'd give it til the end of the week. Also, as mentioned, there will possibly be a backlog due to strikes and the Bank Hols just passed. We were extremely quiet at our D.O. today.

The standard compensation is paid at 100x1st Class (39p) = £39

Slight hijack here, but im having the same problem at mo with a scottoiler I sent to Kurtis. Unfortunately it wasn't recorded, but I did get proof of postage, which was the only way I could prove to Kurtis that i'd actually sent the unit. Just had to wait 3 weeks myself for a parcel from a trader on ebay, the same guy sent another item to me two days after the first one & it arrived within a day. I've presently been waiting a week & half now for a link pipe & still no sign of it. The postal service at the mo is a proper mess but there's absolutely s0d all that can be done by mere mortals other than wait.
Sorry for the hijack - needed to vent my splean.

i learnt not to use royal mail for anything of any value. only had problems with the local sorting office here, others have been fine, but amazingly anything of any value that has every been sent to me never arrives! they even manage to lose things after putting the red card through the door, saying it must have fell out the van!

Ed

Maybe they've sold it on ebay to boost the pension fund:lol:

Phone your local sorting office and ask if they have a back log of parcels. I know mine has a serious back log because they won't pay overtime to get them delivered!!

Sally

Its left the my local sorting office, nothing.
L3nny checked his local, nothing.

So its inbetween Aberdeenshire and Warwickshire.

Great :)

Royal mail are crap for normal mail too, screwed up our redirection three months in a row now. As are BT who have screwed up disconnection of our telephone line. We ended up with a letter from a debt collector advising of court proceedings, which we only knew about 'cos we visited our old house to switch off the heating and cut the grass last week, and the letter which should have been redirected to Solihull was lying on the doormat. It was for an outstanding balance which I didn't know was outstanding, and I haven't recieved a single bill for it to either address, though the service provider insists they have sent a bill, a reminder and a warning letter. Luckily we phone the debt collector and paid it before they actually incurred court costs, had we visited the house a weekend later it could have been expensive and affected my perfect credit rating (which I spent years repairing after university debt trouble!). God knows what other mail we are missing.
