A stab in the dark but just wondering if anyone knows what would be the nearest maternity hospital for somebody living in Bracknell, Berkshire to be admitted to?

Am concerned about a friend who phoned me as she had gone into labour early on Tuesday morning and I`ve heard nothing since. House phone not being answered and her mobile switched off.

As I`m not familiar with the hospitals in the area any help would be appreciated. Many thanks :-D

Heatherwood hospital is fairly close, but I'd imagine that there are a fair few choices as it's pretty densely populated around there. Tara might have a better idea.

might even be frimley park

Thanks guys... I was hoping that it would be like my area where we only have 2 maternity units to cover the area.

Don`t know if it helps at all but she lives in Bracknell and I know it was only a 20 min drive to the maternity unit from home.

Heatherwood stopped admitting last year they do the antenatal stuff but no labours now

Claire it will be Frimley Park

Many thanks Tara, it is a help.... I`ll try Frimley Park patient admissions first and see if she`s there, if not i`ll try the wexham one. :thumleft:

Congrats to Hemma :D I guess Jonathan James Mason got off quite lightly with a Hemma for a mum ;)

Wow is there something I should be congratulating you on??? :D and yes i`m relieved about her choice of name lol. Hemma`s Asian hence her name, I couldn`t pronounce her full name! From age 15 she rebelled against her strict Asian upbringing and the unrealistic expectations of her family... she married an Englishman and was disowned by her family hence her choosing a traditional English name. I was convinced she was having a little girl and if she had she would`ve been called Lily.

Ahh, lovely! Good choice of name too.
Glad you finally heard from her.

I was going to post before you said she'd called, that it could just be a long labour, I was 62 hours with Evie M, a friend managed to get hold of us in hospital as she knew when I'd gone in and was quite curt with hubby for not telling her, until he said I was still in labour, I think this was 48 hours at this point!

OMG... thought i`d had a long one!!!!

I think it was something similar for Hemma and looking at the little mark on Jonathons head it looks like venteuse has been used or something... big ouch :(

Congratulations to Hemma. I was going to send you a PM the other day to see how long she had to go. Lovely wee boy. Becky had ventouse and had a cone head for a couple of days and was needless to say very grumpy.

Tara you'll be fine - just keep positive through it and dont rush off to hospital at the first sign of a contraction! You're better at home for as long as possible.

:)

Congrats to Hemma - he looks lovely.

I can lend you a 4 year old and a stroppy 6 year old to see if you change your mind about them being cute!!! They don't stay cute for long!!

..... I was 62 hours with Evie M.......

Don't worry Tara they are not all long painful labour stories. My daughter - 55 mins labour 7lb 9oz. My son 1 hour 10 mins 10lb 2oz with no pain relief as there wasn't any available in the Cypriot hospital.

Piece of cake no problems at all ....................for me anyway but I'm sure my wife would like to say different!!!

I know that I'm a student midwife and a mum to one!

I had a long labour, friday afternoon til sunday night in slow labour and til monday lunch time in "proper labour" with two paracetamol on saturday night so i could get some sleep. My wee girl was 6lb 11 1/2 oz.

The no more horror stories pleas came from tara. :)

Many thanks everyone.... Tara labour differs so much from woman to woman, some seem to have no trouble at all tho unfortunately when I was pregnant I seem to remember only hearing the horror stories lol

You`ll be pleased to know that I didn`t feel a thing when I gave birth to Chris and my labour was totally natural without painrelief.

Until 7am then I had gas and air

11am the pethidine

4pm..... demanded an epidural!!

Which is why I never felt a thing giving birth :D

Many thanks for the offer but I was thinking of something a bit younger... that totally dependant on you for everything age when they start smiling and cooing and OMG I`m off again :smt081

PS: Buying babyclothes today has not helped my state of mind one bit!

i'm not overly worried at the min to be honest but nearer the time once i've stopped work and i've got time to think about it then i will be panicking. i can't have pethedine or an epidural due to the fact i'm allergic to morphine so good old gas and air for me. i just hope its not a 10lb baby like my husband was and more of a 5lb like me

What a shame, would have loved to have "borrowed her" lol and I love the smell of newly washed babies and baby powder, and the cute little towels with hoods on, then looking at them fast asleep in their little cots... so content without a care in the world.

OMG I have to stop this here and now lmao

PS: Just off to give the cat his bottle of milk before his bedtime.... where`s my Johnson`s baby talc :smt105

squealing sounds as cat tries to get out the cat flap before the nappies are brought out. lol

just to put you off, remember sleepless nights, cracked nipples, teething - reality intrudes.

I was lucky and very rarely had the sleepless nights.... Chris was a good sleeper and I can actually remember hoovering under his cot at 10am trying to wake him up!!! the teething tho is coming to mind, and the terrible two`s.

Keep it up I`m slowly coming round to the idea of just getting a kitten lol

Ahh what a cutie! Glad they are both doing well. I know how you feel. Feeling pretty broody myself especially since my boyfriends last name is "Mason". Makes me want to have a little Mason of my own. One of my mates had a baby recently and we visited them 2 week ago and the baby was soo cute. Wanted to take him home with me.

But 16 years later and I'm now starting to think it was worth it, as she's my best friend!

That's all that matters in the end. No matter how much grief they give you as they grow up, as long as you can be proud of them then you have done a great job in bringing them up.

As long as you haven't recently. It was my midwife that told me this, there were five of us doing anti natal and we joined up again after, two of us had had difficult births, she asked the same question, and yes we were both riders, the others weren't.
Apparently horse riders have more problems because the pelvic muscles are much stronger.
Very odd I thought!

Yes, TENS is ace! I've now bought one from Lloyds Chemist to use when my back it bad, it works a treat! (But don't use this for pregnancy, get one from your midwife!!)

I hired my Tens, it kept me going for 40 odd hours (that's how good it is), I only had to give up on it when the silly midwife suggested a bath and I had to take it off, it didn't do any good after that!
