View Full Version : Does anyone else have a love/hate thing with their bike?

Its hard to say, 110 is probably a little more power than what you have at the moment, itll have a lot more torque too. If your going for that sort of thing though a Tuono is probably a better choice. Meant to be hella fun. :D
I think they are fairly nice bikes, the rear wheel though is not so nice imo. But thats just my taste.
But more torque will not feel nuts.
A torquey TLS might #be# quick. But a 350LC #feels# faster when you hit the powerband and scream it up through the gears.

Aye, your probably right about that! Probably why the Il4's are so popular, they probably feel faster than they are where twins and triples dont feel so manic and quick even if they are/arnt far off.
Bah. :p

You must admit the rocketship feeling of a big IL4 taking off when it comes up onto the cam is rather exhilarating, even if it is rather bad for the license to equal measure :-P

Blasphemer! :p They are fun in that respect I suppose. Rather have a V4 though than a Il4. Saving for the SL4 falco  ha ha

You just don't get that from a twin, and find a V4 that does the same? RC30? desmosidici? RSV4 ... yeah you go buy one. I will still be quicker* on my POS GSXR oil boiler cos I'm not scared to blow it up/crash it because it was £500 rather than £15000!
*and having more fun. Better to thrash a cheap bike, than baby an expensive one.
Rocketship is about the right word to describe it - one of my favourite memories from the hardy bikers this year, was finally getting off the tiny farm tracks and onto something I could unchain the power on, passing Badger marking a roundabout and keeping it open up the hill through second and third. Made up for the offroading earlier in the day :p

Bah, give it a few years... There will be cheaper V4's, the "normal" RSV4 is supposed to be about £10000, not bad for what it is tbh.
Twins might not have the same top end rush but they do have top end, they do accelerate hard. I followered a couple of 1000 (fireblade and Gixxer) we got to *cough* mph, but they didnt pull away from me at all, perhaps if the straight was a little longer they would have started to... But tbh on the road there is no need for the power they have imo, you simply cant take advantage of it.
Guess some of that though could have been down to my size and weight :p

I've never tried one of the new thou's, the biggest thing I've had a go on is about 15 years of development behind yours orose (though throwing roger upperton the cylinder head and a blank cheque makes up for a lot!). The thought is a little bit scary
What worries me about it is that mine is supposedly tamer than the earlier K5/6 (last serious one before the emissions regs spoiled the party).
I think though that we've derailed Jackies thread a bit too far - probably worth picking this conversation up in the morning ;)

The derail is fine. Sure i'll come back form the pub later and add some real nonsense. Chris is right though an IL4 when it hits the cam is truly amazing, feels like a 2 stroke. I just think I need grunt before that too, which means a large capacity inline 4. I'll get good torque and still a stupid top end powerband.

I know my 750 probably doesnt classify as a big IL4 in the grand scheme of thing, but I can relate to this.
It just goes completely bonkers past 9000rpm and it then just leaps forward and a huge rate of knots. Its definately addictive, as you say its also definately license losing.

I'd say yeah it does.
Your 750 is making more power than the 1100s of yesteryear.
Good thing the oil boilers are at least 76% harder then innit :-P
I was looking for my dyno chart to see roughly where it went mental, but it must be somewhere about the same marker as Fizz mentioned - the only problem is that 9k in 4th is on the naughty side of 100mph.
Even running the thou in was the opposite of the SV, as where if you stick to the book on the SV you don't quite get to 70, the thou would do 95.
Mind you, if you do want more I've just seen a thread on gixerjunkies pointing to a turbo K7 on evilbay...

Did someone on here have one, how dangerous are the linked brakes?
They are doing them with luggage and 0% atm and I like the white ones.

Its a shame it didn't work out with the Ninja - I was very excited for you when you were in the process of buying it! Ahh well, plenty of choice out there...

18-05-09, 07:30 PM
I still absolutely love the ninjas outrageous capabilities. It'll probably grow on me/I'll live with it because on the right day/road its amazing. The viffers aren't on 0%. But you do get a grands worth of luggage on them.
There are simply too many bikes!
I definitely have a love/hate relationship with mine. I loved it until I crashed the 2nd time, then lost all enthusiasm with it.. now I do enjoy it sometimes, but it's so bloody uncomfortable I get peed off :p

That`s just the problem isn`t it . If we all had enough money I bet you we would all have a big garage with a bike for different purposes and adventures .

Yeah if i had the room and the money i'd have loads.
A silly pointy ducati
A honda
Big ktm/bmw trailie.
The list goes on and on.

i test rode the new vfr was quite impressed with the effortless power, easer on the wrists and the screen redused the wind noise i get with the sv, gona get another test but with the wife as pillion before buying as she cant get on with the sv pillion seat (i want to start to do some touring by bike) and if i do buy it will be a white one:thumbsup::thumbsup:

I reckon a Z750 is about your best bet still
I didn't like the VFR when my dad first got one, but I've ridden it a few times and it's a nice bike, an enjoyable ride. A shame it sounds like a sewing machine.

If i'm gonna get another Z I think I owe it to myself to get the thou. I'm canny heavy and it should have the poke i require. WIll try and get to the stealers tommorow night.
I enjoy riding mine, but dont particularly feel its always that good looking from certain angles. I also am disappointed with the quality of the finish. I think its falling short of that of the SV which is saying something

I found my Z750 to last well, only the paint on the radiator started to peel off, but it was used everyday throughout Winter and I noticed no corrosion worth talking about on a 5 year bike. I did wash it regularly though..and give is FS10..

19-05-09, 09:03 PM
I went to the stealers today. They will buy my bike back and clear the finance. I sat on a Z1000 and it feels ok. However the seat was ****e in the shop and it made me wonder how long before chronic pain kicks in.
Mind you seats are an easy fix so i'm not too worried. I can test ride one whenever I want so will probably have a go next week some time. The only (annoying) thing that puts me off so far is the absolutely rubbish practicality of the bike. There is only room for a toolkit and thats under the main seat. The pillion underseat is useless. I don't need a lot but like a puncture repair kit and pump on there somewhere if possible.
It's a shame they dont make the SV1000 anymore....
Actually I've found a brand new one at a dealers for £5600. Ticks most of the boxes, upright 110 bhp, got character and room under the seat....
Its 200 miles away like, but that shouldn't matter.

I love and hate my bike.
I love riding it and the sound it makes.
I love the way it looks (battle scars aside).
I hate it when it has to go in for something I can't do myself, as it tends to cost, due to seized stuff (or my mechanic!). I also hate the maintenance- stuff like having to strip the brake calipers down on a regular basis.
I would have been tempted to give it another year and put decent springs in the front- just to see how good I could get it, but I think I've got to change and move on.
Therefore I'm going to get a Firestorm as soon as I'm affluent enough (probly in the New Year). I reckon I may suffer a little less with Honda build/design (going by my Brother's CBR400).

I don't know what the new Z1000s are like seat-wise but the older ones might feel like a plank but they are surprisingly OK. Under seat storage wasn't too bad either from what I remember - definately room for fish and chips and a can of pop ;) So they must have messed around with the new 'uns more. Good luck with the test ride!

I looked at the Z1000 and the Z750 and got the Z750
One dealer described the 750 as "90% of the Z1000 at 75% of the price", which I think is a bit accurate.
I HAVE however since spent £350 on a Baglux Seatster, which is both nicer for me and my MRs when she pillions.......

Oh and when the VTEC comes in, you get a hard edged snarl out the airbox almost like a Kwack :D I've just persuaded meself to go out to the BP meet tonight!
EDIT: Another thing, fit a set of de-catted headers and it's loads louder and throatier to! Gives a few extra ponies to which is nice! When these headers rot (and they do) I'll be getting some.

I've decided I love the good bits of the ninja too much to let it go now. It's bedding in a little and feels great. Also none of the replacements I had in mind will fit in the shed. The ninja is very slim with its underslung exhaust and a z1000 is really wide, so the ninja stays :sunny:
However. I think I need at least two bikes so i'm going to try and arrange a test drive on a V-strom cos I think they will live outside well and be good for all the hate bits of the Ninja.:smt045

Sadly not particularly as he's run off his feet at the moment. Though perhaps you could make an appointment to take the bike to him if he could do it while you wait? I don't know how long it takes TBH.
Dead cert way is to get a spare seat off eBay.

Yeah, spare seat then send it saying do it when you have time. Might get a discount for being patient.
I may do the coast of scotland on it in my summer holidays so it would be good to have a seat that works by then!
