Anyone ridden one, considering it as a second bike next year maybe.

Advantages:

Looks nice,
Sounds Awesome (and better with new cans),
Seems comftable,
Its a supermoto (i have always wanted one, reason i got my licence pretty much)
92 Bhp
Group 11 Insurance
Top Speed: 130-135
Its an aprillia
Its a twin
£6000 new, i want one for about 4000 max really, so maybe have to wait for a bit.
I WANT ONE

Disadvantages:

wind protection is non existent
Tank range 100 miles.
Price, still expensive especially for a second bike!! :(

Thoughts?

Plenty of info there and a good place to ask questions should you need to.

They do look great and sound nice. Not the most powerful bikes out there but they dont need to be. Only thing that would be annoying would be the shocking tank range! Urg.

Would be a good 2nd bike though id guess.

Best thing to do? go get a test ride!

Cheers, cant test ride as im still on the restirction.

They dont put out as much power as the other supermotos but they are so much cheaper to insure and there is not alot in it top end. 5-10 mph.
I guess you will notice it most through the gears.

I want a 990 but i would never get insured as they are group 15 and alot more money.

So this is basically a shiver supermoto (?)
My mate recently upgraded from a faired pointy to a naked bike, he doesn't complain.

The numers look v. good, in my opinion 90bhp is just right, at least for me. And it's a 90 degree Vtwin :)
Yes, tank rang is crap, but it's only a 12l tank.

Check out the link to AF1.

If it's any help I tested one back to back against my SV 650 (GSXR suspended, standard engine plus exhaust and PC3, 75bhp at the rear wheel). The Aprilia was fastest in a straight line (just) but the SV out-handled, out braked and over a given distance out-performed it. Without a doubt the Aprilia looks brilliant, but you can't see it when you're riding it...

I have a shiver http://forums.sv650.org/showthread.php?t=134715 (same engine) only managed just over 100 miles so far but it feels a great bike, did like the DD but the seat is just too uncomfortable

so in a nutshell, save the money and splash out on bits that make your SV handle better?

Sounds like a plan :dj:

have you ever tried to get parts from aprilia? seems like the italians are always on holiday.

after a year on my rs the main feed for the wiring loom had black wire corrosion and had to be replaced. you dont expect that when you pay 2.5k for a 50.

just a thought, if it was my money i think i would look else where. if you go any where abroad things like the xt660 are far more common.

Usually 2-3 days, 5 was the longest I had to wait.

maybe just me but i think that you should be able to go to a shop and buy what you want, spec if its common little bits like speedo cables etc and from a dealer. i can understand if your asking for some thing out of the ordinary.

i waited weeks for a decal set, (fair enough not exaclty common) when it did come they had a sealed set from aprilia which contained a handed set of stickers. only problem was they were both left handed ones which are no good when you need a left and right.

ive had this expirence when ive tried ringing a few different dealers, now my suzuki and honda on the other hand ive got bits on the day or next day. Maybe im inpatient :D

the SV out-handled, out braked

This surprises me a bit and disappointing if it's true - could it have been a confidence thing with the bike that you think could get better once you got used to it? I would have thought a 90bhp supermoto would give you all the handling and braking you could need?

I think it looks ace - there was one parked up outside Brum New Street station when I walked out of there yesterday - I hadn't seen one before and took a good long look at it. The space for pillion looked rubbish (tilted quite steeply forward, nothing to hold on to, pegs just underneath the seat) but I guess that's not really what it's built for! I'd like a go one one for sure. It doesn't look as tall / intimidating as some big supermoto's either. I spose if you're seriously considering it you'll be looking at bikes like the KTM SM's as well?

Cheers,
Matt

Aye, you should be able to buy these things locally, but that's just a drawback you have to live with if you want one of them.
I'm not bothering with the local dealer, because they're sh!te anyway ;)

Mind, the new ones are fairly reliable, I've had mine (04) for only 5 months (3k5 miles) and had 2 problems - dead battery (previous owner) and a snapped drain plug (can't blame it on the bike).

I had a quick look on AF1, seems they can go all Italian on you (electrics), if you're really interested in one test ride it properly.

If you ask me I'd de-restrict the SV and upgrade the suspension, the SV is a very good bike.

I rode one over here (http://forums.sv650.org/showpost.php?p=1971155&postcount=148).

As a quick summary, good bike, sounds great, good usable power from the engine, lots of fun. But the gear change was very stiff and the switch gear is rubbish.

dont know how i missed that i always rear that thread, cheers squirrel_hunter, (http://forums.sv650.org/member.php?u=2927)
i like them but i dont think i could trade the SV for one, when the restriction is off i am gonna test ride a fair few bikes, so im looking forward to that.

Unfortunately it's the weight that goes against it, about 20kg more than my SV.
