Well new rotor and stator are in, resistance checks OK so we see what's occuring when the battery's charged.

Wonder what could have caused the original starter clutch bolts to shear. It actually looks possible those shearing could have caused all the carnage.

Well it hasn't broken down for a while* and didn't spit its dummy out too much at being lobbed down the road.
Leedsmatt said it best "it sounds brutal... like it hasn't got any oil in it!" lol

*Though one of the header clamps nuts did rattle loose, and 'cos the flange was a split type (Matron!) it bounced off down the M62 somewhere. Luckily I managed to find a h*nda dullsville exhaust in a skip to nick a new clamp from. Free fix FTW.

Don't knock it.

Many years ago a bloke sold me an immaculate 6K miles and 18 month old GPZ1100 B2 for 700 quid because it sounded like the bottom end was completely fubared. He'd had a local small bike workshop diagnose big end failure and he just didn't have the money to fix it and needed money fast. He brought it into the Kwak shop I was working part-time at and tried to flog it to us - the owner took one listen and told him he wasn't interested, so I offered scrap value and he took it.

Next day I dropped the bike into our workshops, the mechanic had a quick look and 30 minutes later presented me with a 20 quid bill. Turns out it was simply the starter clutch bolts sheared. When he started the bike up for me it sounded as sweet as the day it was built. The owner of the shop was furious with himself for missing a great opportunity and said he'd have paid up to 2 grand if he'd known what the problem was - lesson learned, always ask the mechanic to check potential purchases before giving an answer.

I kept that bike for 2 years and sold it for a 1200 quid profit.
