View Full Version : recommend me a tre
can any one recommend me a tre seem to varey in price
cheers Craig
I can't recommend anything, but I thought the general consensus on here was that the TRE and Power Commanders were pretty pointless for an SV.

what bike?
can be done diy on an SV650. Method's slightly different from gen1 sv to gen2 sv I believe. (If it is an sv at all).
There's also a debate as to whether it works

Popular opinion on the Org is don't waste your money on one of these, you won't notice any difference in performance.

I did the DIY version on my 2002 Curvy, no noticable difference

heres the cheap way
1. remove ECU
2. plug into computer
3. recode script on there to be more suited to your riding
4. reconnect on the bike
5. test ride
i has a curvey so i havent done it on an sv but i have done it for a mate on his track bike when he had a ecu which was easy enough to reprogram.

Waste
Of
Time
And
Money
You want more speed , buy a faster bike . There is no cheap and easy way to gain anything truly massive on the SV I`m afraid to say .

Perhaps you could post some pics of how you did this
I did the DIY on my pointy - works but only has an effect at below half throttle and below 4000rpm (both must be true) - so utterly pointless as you don't really ride in these rev/throttle ranges on the SV. I took it off again, as it affects the neutral "map" and makes the tickover drop by 2-300 rpm - not good for winter. I think I noticed it made the bike slightly louder at tickover and low revs, but the effect is very slight. Doesn't improve the snatchy throttle at all.
The DIY job on a pointy consists of 1 20p resistor and 2 bits of heat shrink tubing. Pennies. Don't ever pay for one.

think its been done on my pointy, how does in affect the neutral map?

No pictures my mate gave it me it was ment to be a trackday unrestricted ecu he wanted more top end on it so i spend hours reading up on my code looking for the top end power to make it faster, found nothing charged him 8 pints and he has since changed his race bike and needs more speed round the bends but im sure thats bike set up not ecu set up.
ophic knows more about doing it on an sv.

tickover drops when you release the clutch in neutral. Or picks up when you pull the clutch in. Or the other way round - I forget. It was years ago.
who said i wanted more power?
this is my wife's sv 650 k4 , i have a svz1000 with tre already fitted , but off another forum i use they highly recommend tre for smoothing small throttle openings , unfortunately mine had it on when i got it so don't know what it was like before.
i have set tps and checked throttle body sync
thought i would ask and see what peep's thought to them or not and the answer seems to be don't bother. not every one wants to be bragging about horse power some actually just enjoy been out riding. cheers for answers looks like may save the dosh!

If you want more bottom end torque then get the JHS ignition advancer. Check out the difference between the blue and red graphs below 5000rpm:

Just found a small bag of leftover resistors with connectors already fitted, ready to go on a pointy. You want one?

Ok.
What?
You miss the bit about build a custom plug to interface it with computer (serial or parallel link?), custom program to have a chat with the ECU, then you're still within the +/-10% limits same as having it TEKA mapped*.
And map it suitable for the riding you do? Come on dude there's WAY more to engine tuning than "plug it and and set the "power" slider to 2000%". Or have you been reading max power?
And even if you do plug it in and get full access to the fuel map**, ign advance map, STV map etc etc then you're still not going to get much more out of it because you're still working on a stock engine.
*Which does not control all parameters, just some variation at some points of curve.
**Unless you bought a triumph, in which case, well done. The Sagem 2000 boxes on the early bikes are fully adjustable for pretty much anything, so you can do this with tuneboy software and cable.

That's why I asked him for some pictures, my questioning tone doesn't come over in my post, unlike yours which is direct and to the point :p

That makes more sense, still curious to note what bike it was and how you connected it to a PC.
There wouldn't be any particular "top end power limit". Maybe STV position in lower gears, or incorrect mixture which is very common.
Should have bought a carby :-P

Aye, didn't think he'd done it to a Carby ;)
