Post something in this thread. Anything you like, whatever is on your mind at this moment. Don't worry about your spelling or grammar, don't worry that you'll get flamed for posting something that has been posted before, just go for it.

Well after Saturdays debarcle, and i have been lurking for a few weeks before i posted.
My synopsis is:
There are quite a few cliques on here.
If you don't conform to how others want you to you'll get flamed.
The level of maturity by some members is quite frankly better suited to a primary school playground.
There seems to be alot of pointless threads (yes i know you don't have to read them)
But the people who took the time and effort to PM me i applaud them.
And the technical section is worth it's weight in gold.

Hi Abi,

I won't deny there are people who act in a cliquey manner. A lot of it is accidental. People who have known each other a long time and have met often naturally talk to each other more. I can see though that for a Newbie it can be intimidating and annoying. I personally get p*ssed off with threads that are really just private conversations between a couple of people that really should have been done by PM.

Nice try Lissa, I am one of the undoubted numerous lurkers on this site.

I visit often to see whats for sale etc and occasionally for tech help. I visit the various sections to see if there are any interesting posts.

I also visit the Pennine Massive to see whats happening locally. Sometimes I think I'll make the effort to go to a meet or on a local rideout but then just when I am about to commit, my anti social alter ego takes over and stops me getting involved. Then I find myself reading about what a great time everyone had and how everyones helpful and welcoming etc etc. Then wish I had made the effort not another excuse.

Can't actually believe that I am now going to post this instead of deleting it all as usual and thinking F*** IT.

Definitely get yourself out on a ride out when you can, it’s the best way to make friends on the forum and perhaps get yourself known to some of these inevitable 'cliques'. You might even try to throw your bike across a road into a hedge to get some conversation going, hell it’s worked for me. You'll learn to like the people on the ride outs very quickly (even Lissa) and they can be some of the most helpful people you will ever meet!

We t always post up our small rides in the soho section when there will only be a small group of like minded and equally paced folks on it. HOWEVER all our other posted soho rides are open to ANYONE and EVERYONE who cares to come along and with our well practised marker system it caters for riders of all capabilities so no one will ever get left behind or feel out of their depth.

Well Shona you have your pick of the bunch then. Soho meets are probably the busiest of the 3, which for a noobie who has met none of us can be either a good thing or bad thing.
Bad cos there is too many people to remember names etc but also good cos there will almost always be someone who you will feel at ease with.

I know my first time at soho 6yrs ago i was very unsure what to expect, after all "bikers" can be all different types as we know. The good news for me was that i was there with another new guy, Will, and we both got there early. Will and i got on really well and agreed that if the regular sohoers who showed up werent our kind of people we'd just say we both had to be somewhere else and ride off together. Strength in numbers and all that.

However as it turned out the soho regulars have now become some of my closest friends and confidants and i know you'll think its different cos you are femals but dont worry...we have our fair share of lady biker types who regularly come along so you wont be the only girl and getting too much of the wrong type of attention or feel uncomfortable amongst a bunch of guys you dont know.
Only real way to get to know us is to come on down and meet us tho :)

I have enjoyed the rideouts that I have been on this year and meeting some of you guys but I haven't been able to go anywhere on the bike for the past few months as we have had some real bad luck happen to us.

I know the reason, my boyfriend put keys in, turned them and left the lights on... but didnt start it.
about 3-4mins later I try to start it and no such luck.

Although, is it bad that it died after the lights being on for 3-4mins?

Naughty silly boyfriend, perhaps it's his sneaky way of saying you need to lose a few pounds and exercise! :p

The batteries on Sv's are a bit marginal and any drain, especially if you have a both headlight on model could cause that. Definately worth keeping an eye on though obviously.

Not having anything useful to say has never stopped me posting;) It's more about getting involved, both on here and out on the road.
