Howdy Doody

A mate of mine has just bought a Cagiva Raptor(thou) 51plate,mint condition,10500mls £2500 from a dealer(is that good?).

Tbh i don't know much about them(neither does he lol)he just likes that kind of ride, seating position etc.

So knowing that you have first hand experience of them(ive read you raving about em:))is there any kind of advice you can offer for me to pass over to him?ie,does & dont,s.....good/bad points.....strengths/weaknesses.

much appreciated Robo:smt023

Best place to be is the Raptor Chaptor mate. Tlzone can give you some info for sure....But teh Raptor Chaptor are the experts. A fountain of knowledge. The Raptor is an entirely different animal to the TL...its only the engine thats anything to do with that. You can't put TL pipes on it for instance.

2.5k is a good price for the year etc...is it a nakid or a VRap?

If you really want first hand knowledge give Carnivore a PM....and I'll nudge him to keep looking in his inbox, as he doesn't have much internet access since he moved out.

However I can say theres one nice VRap sat in my shed still...mwahahahaha!

Top bannana, cheers for that:thumbsup:don't really think theres anything inparticular that he wanted to know(only like the little things i stated above(oh btw its a naked).

I'll pass the website you kindly gave me on to him,i,m sure(like you say)he'l find everything he might want to know on there.

Cheers again,Robo:D

He'll have lots of fun...I'm positive of that. They ain't no lardy old TL for starters. The lump of engine was downtuned for more torque, and everything designed around that, smaller, shorter, lighter etc etc..... it handles much much better.

One thing to watch is the rear brake....its a barstool to bleed, theres a bit of a knack, read that as a lot of a knack!.
Matts had his for two and a half years now, and its not honestly given him much trouble...just a whole load of fun. :-)

A lot of a knack? I think that's still a bit of an understatement

That's been the only issue with kitkats Raptor as well, I'm still thinking of fitting a different m/c and caliper although that will involve geting a new caliper bracket made up.

Definitley fun to ride though

well I was being polite with that one.

You wouldn't believe how much brake fluid has been through that this summer...well actually scrap that, you know its gallons!

Cheers dizzy,i'll let him know about the above, overall its just the kind of bike he's into, especially with the (low)riding position,it suits him as he has an artificial leg(lost his right leg in a biking accident around 12 years ago, what with me breaking my neck also in a biking accident many years back you could say we don't do owt by halves around here, lol). But alls well that ends well, makes you kinda come back even stronger:riding:

Thanks again:D

well what I will say is say how he goes with the seat then. Until Carnivore had his hip replaced he could never sit on a bike straight, hes worn a funny ridge down the middle(and no thats not because his ass was clenched tight cause of his riding ;-) )
. He had Tony Archer put a gel pad under the original covering, as it was a bit uncomfortable for him...the rear was more like sitting on a breeze block than the plank of wood at the front!

Ahem. Now it's a good bike that's for sure but don't talk b*llocks :-P

Wheelbase on Vrap is longer. Rake angle is less steep AFAIK. Dry weights are 187kg for the TLS... pretty heavy huh? Especially compared to the 192kg of the 'rap! (steel frame vs alloy. etc.)

Handling is subjective. Though the TLS has a crap rear shock that doesn't work when new, none of the raptors get adjustable suspension either, compared to the KYB's on the front of the TL.

Not like the shock on the back of the raptor is anything to write home about either, non-adjustable, not normally rebuildable, emulsion type etc. At least the useless shock on TLS had some good theory behind it :-P

(yes I have looked at these bikes a lot, but I'd still buy a TLS!)

ahemmm eh...its bloody shorter than the SV!!! Well I can see that when they are stood side by side....and I'm sure the SV is shorter than the TL (but don't quote me ;-) )

Anyways...I live with tha bike day in day out :-)

You're talking hares whiskers. still looks tiny side by side:smt118

17mm in it, that will be obvious. 5kg is also no piffling amount. Reason I argue is because you said the absolute opposite with your rose-tinted glasses on* :-P

I think raptor is too low at back to handle good and needs some better forks for starters, like some GSXR750 showas. But then you lose the shiny brakes lol. But I have not ridden one. Will never be as cool as a TL :-P

*Go buy one already...

dizzyblonde

There is a mod for the front forks. Something to do with R1's and internals. bleh..go ride one yourself, lol. Think you'll be insanely surprised..hmm needs to take my own advice and pinch this one while the going is good ;-)

Or maybe I'll just accidently trade the bus in for the Xtra....do you think P will notice?
