Is the Sun Inn the Coate Water one ????
Yep! To anybody looking at google maps, it's on the nearby large roundabout, not where google says
Hmm.. I didn't read the bit where they emailed us with show-up times. I thought we were just meant to wander along whenever, and we'd then be sent to Wooton from the base in dribbles. Either way, Im sure they wont mind too much, about 10 odd people not going at specified time (granted there will be others)
But what they have planned will sort the gridlock, as long as most people abide which I'm sure they will. I'm sure we'd be ok. Post back here with the times you get e-mailed

21-02-10, 01:18 AM
Yeah im sure it wont make too much of a difference if us lot head down a lil outa our alloted times.....it only becomes a problem if everyone else has the same idea.
Just looked up the meet point you suggested...looks like a good place to meet! Good idea:thumright:

Thank you! I picked it because my house is nearby!
We will take the motorway to the airfield then see what happens. If you know anyone else who is going, bring them to this spot!
And bring cameras! I don't own one, and it's my first ever more-than-3-people ride-out!

Ok, the guy who's sorting out a George White posse says:
"Why do the motorway - they're boring :-(
All the Swindon lot could meet en-route so if the Sun Inn group left and went down the bypass and turned off at the garden centre the George White group could join at the moonrakers and all ride down to Brinkworth to Hullavington. Similar distances and times - then all the group could do the wootton run together and straight back to swindon than mass dispersal at the motorway roundabout"
Might be cooler to meet up, but;
We'd also have to match their time (I don't know when they plan on leaving, might not be 10 o'clock).
And, this will add time to our trip. Probably 15-20 mins to get to them, I can see another 10-20+ to actually get going as a group, then A-roads...
What do people think? I vote stick to 10 o'clock leave, motorway plan. I think we have a fair sized group already anyway.
metalhead19
21-02-10, 06:40 PM
This is true (motorway is boring and does add bit extra hassle to the trip)
TBH i am not fussed either way. But the less hassle made on the day the better as with 10,000 other bikes it may get fairly difficult to stay in groups.
allantheboss
21-02-10, 07:08 PM
Motorway is less hassle.. Smaller group
Either way, I'm going to go on the motorway from Sun Inn. I can link you to the George White discussion. If I find it..
The Gixer boyz are coming to Sun Inn now. I have relayed the details across to them so should be a nice turn out there.
allantheboss
21-02-10, 08:10 PM
Epic! "Gixer boys"
What are we? SV....ers?
Well I'm an Orger and other half Chris is a Gixer Boy .........
He laughs at the fact we have a "lunge" which is why I haven't posted mine yet. Scared to ask him to take the picture.

21-02-10, 08:30 PM
Haha... Thats sweet. We should make a South West Surfer's flag! And fly it on the day. Im tempted to paint my lowers with something supportive
metalhead19
21-02-10, 08:35 PM
Haha, get a large banner for South West Surfers! you could attach one of those lil window flags to the top of your helmet n decorate it for SWS?!

As per my message to you on facebook we're leaving at the same time 10 but upto you I also said i would send you my number so can get it exact so no waiting for anyone at meet up point. No issues this end organised way too many rides and meets its become 2nd nature now - if a boring motorway route suits you I'm happy as I'll take the twisties. Personally I don't give 2 flying hoots if I ride in a group on on my own - I know we're meeting up and leaving at 10 and going directly there 20 miles by the run yesterday when I was bored.

allantheboss

I just made it on as I was on the reserve list, but I could only book a slot for between 9-10 arrival. Hope to see some of you there.
Will need to get some proper plans sorted ready for the weekend. I will do a seperate attendance thread so we can see where people are coming from and arrange meeting points.
Is everyone heading straight off after or are we going back to the Sun Inn???
metalhead19
10-03-10, 11:53 PM
Thats a good idea Amanda. I have no plans after so am able to head somewhere else afterwards.
Take it the plan is still 10 at the Sun Inn?
Yep! Arrive plenty of time to say hellos, etc then ride from Sun Inn about 10am when we know everyone who is meeting there has arrived.
Get yourselves on the attendance thread and we know who to expect at Sun Inn or where ever
allantheboss
11-03-10, 04:13 PM
Link to he attendance thread? Sounds good, I'm still up for going from the Sun Inn, we can decide what people want to do from after the main shindig.

Allantheboss, howd the route riding go? any thoughts on which route is better?
allantheboss
11-03-10, 09:13 PM
Yeah, I went for a gander without a map, so I didnt take the exact route, just random roads in the area. Theyre nice, I dont know how well it would work with the many people who will be taking it on the day, if theres a clutter...
M4 I havent taken. Simple and straightforwards, motorway, then a couple of roads. Im going to do them both properly on Saturday, and I can update here or on the morning!
ravingdavis
12-03-10, 03:04 AM
Do you think they would get upset if I brought along an unregistered pillion? Me and the bike are all fully registered but not sure if I would be treading on any toes with the extra passenger?
I wouldn't have thought it would be a problem cos it's mainly the bike that needed to be registered but best to check on the website or facebook page to see what they say .

12-03-10, 08:32 AM
I work in Malmsbury, which is on the route of the ride, I took the bike to work this morning, helpfully a farmer had smeared whatever he was spreading over a large part of the road near Minety. Mud and gravel everywhere so go easy if you are getting to Hullavington on the back roads.

13-03-10, 11:14 AM
^^^^ Thanks!
I got lost the other day, Im going at it again with google maps guidance. Im gonna go there on twisties and back on M4... Updates later!
ALLAN!!!!! Don't get lost!! lol
I told the Gixer boyz forum that you would lead the ride from Swindon to Hullavington ......
OMG!!! Has anyone been reading the Swindon Advertiser. Alot of negativity around the event by the residents. Something else to factor into the equation!!!
Just leaving now peeps!! Its sunny and lovely. Have a great day. Will try and see as many of you as possible.

Me n me m8 went down yday and stopped in a village called Devizes then rode in to Wootton Bassett the up home. It was about 190miles each day for us but well worth it. I couldn't believe a) The amount of bikers there and there variety of bike from tike to harleys to sports bikes they was all ther and b) the support by the locals. I'm so glad we went fown and did this.
Anyway here's some of my pics. We got there at about 9.45 and went on the 2nd run.
