i have been used to cbr 1ooo fh for so many years , big , slow turning. i have had the sv and have still got the same riding style. i am a bit wary of throwing it into corners and want to get rid of my bands. i was wondering just how good this machine is and have decided tomorrow is the day! any good advice about how it corners and what i should expect would be greatly appreciated. i have been out and thrown it about a bit but i am sure that there is so much more it can do . but being used to IL4 and going to 2 is a bit weird.
ideas?

Care, an understanding is the key. Forward planning and knowledge of a road also helps. Don;t try and do it, let it happen :)

Going out specifically to get rid of your chicken strips sounds dangerous!
What tyres have you got on it? Some tyres are just harder to do it on, I had a good cm+ on my old dunlops on the sv went to avon storms and on the first day of riding with them had had them right over on the rear. I was just riding as usual. Since had them right over on the front which I was told was physically impossible.
Edit: Some of the best & fastest riders I've seen still have chicken strips - it doesn't mean a lot.

Wait till spring when its warmer. Or book onto a trackday.
Not ideal conditions at the moment to be exploring the limits of adhesion especially if the roads around where you are are as badly surfaced as they are around here at the mo...

roads around here are not too bad, stafford only had about two days of snow this year. i have diablo rosso on front and rear, i just want to find out what this sv can do!and the sun is shining and i am bored of the megane and like i have said i am curious just how good this thing is, big man on a little bike so just apprehensive, fizz, i would love to do a trackday but i must admit i think i would be a complete tool on the track and a bit of a pain to others....lol. wolf i think i am better going to the right and have yet to fall off!
i dont know if it is just the tyres that make it seem like i do motorway miles as they have quite a rounded profile so hard to get them over as much as the dunlops i used to run on the cbr.

If you'd be a tool on the track and a pain to others just think what the paramedics/grieving family would think. Just enjoy riding, don't worry about chicken strips.

if it doesnt happen , it doesnt happen! and plenty of sensible advice for such a daft thread, maybe should have worded original query better instead of trusting the beer bypass valve to make a sensible post!

lol. i dont count the time my chain snapped. by crikey, the rectum puckered for that one i tell you.
You need confidence in the grip level. Without that you'll be in serious trouble so far over your limit should anything unexpected happen.
Don't do it on the road, or at all.

Was out the other day having a bit of a play around and you could get the tyres warm fine, but there was such a coating of salt on everything it was like riding on marbles.
Go steady and progressively build up, if you go wanging it into the first corner you see you're tarmac surfing guaranteed.

been out, roads i chose were fine, gave myself a ten mile warm up then pushed it a little past my normal style. found out that adjusting my tyre pressures a bit gave me quite a radical change in the bike and this gave me a bit more confidence to fling it around a bit. just wish it was a bit warmer out! thinking the only way to get some proper confidence is to do a track day as has been previously suggested, do they do COMPLETE novice days and what sort of price would they be?

Just practice more
Yeah trackdays have novice group, £80-100

It's been a while since I've had my SV but if I recall correctly I had several times I thought I could lean a little further if I just shaved a bit of the fairing and my knees =p..but I also averaged about 1 crash a year on the SV's so maybe there is a correlation there :)
A said if you don't feel it, don't push it, it'll either happen, not happen, or we'll all be watching you on you tube, one of the 3.

The warmer the weather, the more costly the trackday :)

next thing will be to actually find one near enough to me to be practical. there is one over by matlock, i remember riding past it one day, but i cant remember what it is called.

As you no doubt know, with some tyres, you can be cranked well over and the poof lines remain. The Rosso seems to be such a beast. I rate it as a tyre, hard wearing, warms up quick and doesn't let go in the wet like my Corsas tended to.
Get it on a track where you can be grinding the hero blobs. and I bet the poof lines stay.

i had come to that conclusion myself! think i would actually have to rest it on the crash bobbins to get it to the edge lol! but after changing my tyre pressure a bit and changing my style a bit i have enjoyed the bike more today for what it can do. its not really about the strips its about going a bit further than i am used to....many years using a bike to commute as opposed to enjoying it ! that being said i have just had one quote for renewal of 114 quid fully comp and one for £8,917!

Tim W Which Corsas are you refering to? I have the 111's on but never "Pushed" them in the wet

There's diablo corsas, supercorsas, dragon supercorsas, vauxhall corsas... Then different compounds in track ones, SC1>SC3
