A lot of the bikers I know are the son of a biker, or have a biking sibling or other half etc.
Are you the only one in your family that has a bike?

Son of a biker, sibling of a biker. Grandson of a biker. All on me father's side :D

My paternal Grandfather had motorbikes and 3 wheeler Morgans (the ones with the big V twin JAP engines stuck out the front) and my Dad had motorbikes up till I was about 5 years old. My adopted brother has had motorbikes for many years and my younger blood brother has had bikes in the past and is about to buy another one - probably an SV curvy!

I'm the only one in our family - I think the nearest I have to a biker relative is a 2nd or 3rd cousin or something.
Grandad was a biker but sadly no longer with us & died before I got into bikes so it's something I never got to share with him :(
My parents hated it when I did my bike test just over a year ago, having known a few people who have died over the years on them.
But its something I wanted to do, so I did it. Unfortunately last month this happened: http://www.thisiskent.co.uk/news/hero-son-saved-tourist-s-life/article-2175778-detail/article.html
He was my sister's boyfriend brother. Lovely guy! But it doesnt help my case and I get pressured to sell it all the time...

My parents were so against it when I first started talking about it, but once I started riding they soon realised they were never going to change my mind, so are sort of ok with it now. My gran still hates it though
When my dad used to start about how dangerous it was, I would turn it back on him by saying "I don't tell you how bad smoking is for you etc". He couldn't really say much to that

Yeah, he's come back into biking after taking a bit of a vacation to bring us up. Now we're older, he's gotten back into it and got himself a KTM Adventure 990. Great bike, sounds like a beast and great fun to go pillion on.
I come from a family of bike haters, so I wonder whether they found me under the pear tree:p I'm the only biker. Wife hates it too.

Dad rides, and in fact he's pretty much the only reason I was allowed a bike by my mum. If he didn't, I'd be learning to drive a car
Uncle also rides, and one of my cousins used to. But it's pretty rare in our extended family.

Obviously me and Peg.
My dad loves having a biker as a daughter, he likes to tell his mates at work, where I've been and what we've been upto on the bikes.
Reckoned they fell off their chairs when he told them I'd bought the Raptor! :-)
Mum never used to like it, but these days kind of puts up with it, the day my son gets on the back I know she'll have something to say.

Me Dad had numrous bikes that i've been on the back of various times but he hasn't been on a bike in years and currently doesn't own a bike.
I started biking when a was about 10 and ridden off road on my TS50X for 4 years. Sold the bikes when times where tough and so spent about 13 years off the bike untill I did my CBT and DAS courses back in 08-09. Passed the DAS in Feb 09 and have owned a bike since March 09.
My brother (4 yrs younger) has passed his CBT and hopefully will get his Mod 1 & 2 done later in the year.

At the moment I am yes. My dad has a full licence but has only ridden a Lambretta in the early 70s, keeps threatening to get a Burgman though. He was a terrible pillion when I took him Oulton BSB a couple of years ago though! My mum isn't overly keen on me biking as her brother died on his many years ago, but she understands I love biking and is happy enough as long as I don't ever get a green bike :o.
I've managed to convert my brother in law to biking, but his parents have threatened to disown him if gets his licence, but he's all for getting it anyway. My sister has started with the 'he can come out with you when he ggets a bike, as long as you bring him back in one piece' line, which I'm not particularly liking :(
My dad had bikes in the 60s and got another one when I was about 11 (1981). Taught me to ride his ER185 round the park. I used to nick his Kawasaki LTD250 when he was out and ride it round the streets when I was 14/15 - very bad.
He's still got a bike now, and his brother has a couple. Two of my cousins used to ride when they were about 18 but don't now and another cousin rides a trike.
My sister went out with a few bikers when she was younger and her current partner rides a Goldwing.
My mum was totally against me getting a bike but my dad talked her round. I chucked my RD125LC through a hedge the first day I got it and had to tell her I'd damaged it by dropping it off the sidestand. Good job she was clueless - I'd twisted the forks! I had to wear long sleeves and jeans for a few weeks in the middle of summer to hide the injuries.

My Dad had a scooter back in the days of black and white along with his brothers. I've been told the stories of what they got up to on them and their brushes with the law. My mother also had a scooter back in the day but no stories about her come to think of it...
My Dad bought a 125 to commute on a few years back but has long given it up. And my sister also owned a scooter for a couple of years. But neither of them really got the bug for it, so unfortunately I'm the only one in the family.
Dad was a biker - had a trike up to his 70's but had to sell due to ill health (couldn't physically ride a bike)
Step dad has always had bikes, mum hates them,
Sister and her husband are bikers
other sister not really into bikes, neither is her hubby
My fella hates bikes - prefers landrovers and 4x4's (luckily so do I)
My older son not into bikes or cars but has car to get from A-B (must of found him under a bush)
Number 2 son loves bikes, but cant have one as not working
Daughter only 11yrs old but is a biker babe in the making and loves coming pilly and has been to IOM on the bikes for 10 days camping.
:riding:
I'm the only biker in my immediate family & the only biker I really know over here is myself.
I have a couple of cousins in Canada that track race gixxers, but over there it's a summer hobby more than anything apparently - well for them anyway.
I come from a family of bike haters,.
+1 million. Biking in my family is equated to death:confused: and there isn't much I can say to convince otherwise!

I'm the only one in my family remotely interested in bikes. I got into bikes as a teen via my group of mates, and although I had a step dad of sorts for a while that was a biker, I'm alone :)
mum doesn't really like it but has long since given up trying to convince me otherwise. GF doesn't mind but swears if I take our son out on the back she'll cut my jewels off. I'll talk her round!
granddad, dad, brother me and the wife her dad and her mum.
but my sons, well ermm lets just say i'm thinking of slapping the missus. lol
when asked if they want to come pillion on the back my son's answers were 'its nice and all that dad but no i dont think so'. my reaction was 'you watt' i couldent wait to get on a bike. as others have said i never got to ride with my granddad but i did with my dad and still do with my bro. i have a pics of my granddad on his bikes that i keep meaning to scan.

I'm the only one in the immediate family that rides. My parents were initially bike haters and I hid my first bike for at least 2 years before they cottoned on when they found a picture of me and a mate holding up our CBT certificates. They have come round now and my dad is talking about trying a bike on the "Get On" scheme. They even have a picture of me knee down at Anglesey in their conservatory.
My sister had an sv650n for a while; she learned to ride as her partner of the time had a 'blade. They've long since split and she not has a 250 scoot which has done about 500km in 3 years.
technically I'm not the only one, but practically I am.

My father hated bikes with a passion. Had to inspect far too many crashed bikes. Families of fatals asking him to dispose of their loved ones love.
So when my twin bro wants a fizzy at 16, he gets the you don't live here with one of those. Bye.
I kept mine round at his place so my dad never knew. By the time I was 17, he sort of knew, but wouldn't allow them at the house, Mum/dad had split by then and I kept my bikes in mums garage and had to drive to hers to get the bike.
When I turned 18 I moved into the companies halls of residence, no problem then.

I'm the only one in my family on both sides, they don't see the good things about biking only the negative side. Have two daughters who I will let have a bike when the time comes if they want, but I think the boss will have something to say about that.

I'm the only one. I'm pretty obsessive with anything envolving engines. So it was a matter of time really.
Mother hates it, can't sleep unless I'm home. Both parents working in the NHS doesnt help. At 17 it took alot of convincing.
Mom was over the moon when it broke in Novemeber, but come this Saturday it returns to life.... :D. So excited!!

Grew up with my dad owning enduro's
He got rid around my 16th, then at 19 when I got the DT he went out and bought himself his MZ.
I'm the father of a biker (I prefer the term motorcyclist).
My elder sisters had bikes (moped and 250s) but only rode regularly until they'd passed car tests. The eldest owned an RD400D for 4 years after getting a car but only did 2000 miles on it then sold it to me cos it scared her.
My grandad was a petrolhead like me, but he died about the time I got my moped. He'd grab any opportunity to jump on a bike and in the mid-1970s used to nick my sister's 250s for thrashes round the village - he was in his 70s then. He refused to wear a helmet because he'd never had to.
My dad hates bikes, even though he has a full licence for one. He had to learn when he was in the army and watched his younger brother get smashed quite badly in an accident when they were training together in Malta.
My eldest daughter has ridden since she was 6, competing in schoolboy(girl) MX until she was 14, and now owns a GSXR750 K10 after having a TS50X, RS125, RS250, NC30, CBR600FX, two R6s and two GSXR600s. She's kept the 2004 R6 that was run over by a Tesco artic trailer and turned it into a fully sorted trackbike.
My other kids aren't bothered about bikes even though they've grown up around them and their new step-dad has one. Maybe they've been put off them because he owns a Harley

My parents were so against it when I first started talking about it, but once I started riding they soon realised they were never going to change my mind, so are sort of ok with it now.
Same here, they appear to be getting used to the idea but you wouldn't believe the number of excuses my mum would come up with so I wouldn't have to do the 20 (fun) miles to the house!
My uncle has a bike a a distant cousin has recently died on one. Other than that I think that's it. I'm the only girl that's for sure :-D

One uncle and a cousin ride occasionally on IL4s of the yamaha persuasion, my dad had a gorgeous daytona 955i, I think that's about it. My Grandma had a vespa in Gibraltar for a while, but it terrified her, so it was short lived!
Oh I think my great-grandmother and her husband used to potter around on some sidecar outfit too.
Technically I am the only one that rides a bike. My dad used to but had an accident as I understand it which is why they were not thrilled when I got one.
My girlfriends dad/practically father in law has ridden bikes for 60 years and still does.
Currently the only one riding.
My older brother has had loads of bikes. In fact the SV650S I ride now was his bike up until 2 years ago...

Yes i'm the only biker, my dad used to be but if had an accident 30 year ago and still has a bad back because of it. Therefor he hates bikes now. My gf and all her family dislike bikes as a dangerous selfish thing to have. So i'm on my tod as a biker in my family.

My dad had a bike til he married my mum who made him sell that AND his Triumph TR2 which even I am mad at her for...lol. My cousin has a CBR600F but that's it.
An ex had a bike and Dan had a bike. I always knew I'd get one too...I just waited...lol

Parents met in a (fairly famous) bike shop where they both worked, one grandad used to be a motorbike mechanic, other one has had loadsa bikes, used to take the family on holiday (kids included) on his bike & sidecar outfit.
Dad & his mates used to be mods, grandad used to 'tune' ( :smt044 ) their scooters for 'em.
Uncle had bikes until he smashed his knee & shoulder pretty bad quite a few years back when a car knocked him off.
But, alas, I'm currently the only member of the family who owns a bike!

My brother, his wife and his daughter are all riders.
My daughter recently got her learners with no encouragement from me. Sister in law and niece may have had something to do with that.
Four of us are on R1200GS and my daughter is on a G650GS. :duck:
Dad rode in his teens but denies it. My brother and I didn't find out until years after we were forbidden from ever riding motorcycles. We dutifully ignored him.
Granddad rode until Parkinsons put him off the road.
Last time (about 20 years ago) I saw one of my uncles he was blasting off on a turbocharged Harley. Mad as a Hatter.

Grandson of one... my dad hates them. My mother likes fast cars and stuff but isn't so keen on bikes cos she thinks they're dangerous.
My Grandad was a biker, apparently he was a very good trials bike rider as well and was approached by the army to train the riders, but declined because he didn't want to lose his stripes.
My dad is a rider and his brother did for a bit but was, according to my dad, sh*t, so gave up.
My brother used to ride a trials bike when he was a young'un, but hasn't ridden since.
Erm...kind of.
My mum's partner is a biker, but not sure if that counts.
None of my mates ride or want to ride a motorcycle...despite me trying to sell it to them.

My great grandfather was one of the first people in the uk to...well I forget but something bike related. Apart from him and my uncle's Wife's brother - none.
None of my mates ride or want to ride a motorcycle...despite me trying to sell it to them.
Likewise, the one mate that has a yearning for them is still put off (and suffering I think) from a bike crash he had as a teen...and his bird wouldn't let him either!

i have two older brothers a younger brother also my father allways had bikes and am told my grandmothers father was the 3rd man in england to have a motorcycle which he built himself
I was the first to pass my test in our family. My Dad likes the idea but he had his MX5 so never got round to doing it, my mum... well i just dont speak to her about it all that much.
i'm the only biker in my family. really quite unfortunate, but it's their loss, not mine :)
got bike lessons for my 18th b'day and was told I wouldnt be allowed a bike until I moved out... got the license and 5 months later found my baby :) a 98 Fazer 600 with 16000 miles on the clock, for £1200... told the parents and they let me get it... probably the best thing in my life :)
then january past there i had the intention of getting rid of the Ka, so it was get another small car or a 125 to replace it... i decided upon the 125cc as id be going the same speed as in the car, but spending 1/4-1/3 on fuel, and it would allow me to keep the Fazer good during winter!!
got a YBR 125 and ended up keeping the car too as it's nt worth selling, but since i got the YBR my mum dad and brother have all become interested and intrigued at having a go, so hopefully they will and will all decide to be AWESOME like all of us here, and get a bike too :)

Biking in the Asian community is virtually unheard of.
I'm one of the pioneers in my community, let alone first biker in the family :p
Just me. Reckon the boy will want one when he's older.

The common theme seems to be the fathers and male members of families seem to be interested in the speed and thrill of bikes, the mothers and females of families worry about how dangerous they are.
Generally speaking, men are more oily, mechanical people who like throbbing engines etc women see them as modes of transport.
Before i get moaned at, im talking generally and not including female bikers/ drivers that do have a passion for engines etc

Caught the biking bug from my friend Danny when I was about 18 or twenty.
Just before I went to Uni I acquired a 125cc bike, but it had to be kept at Danny's house because my Mother strongly disapproved. Bike got stolen and Danny's Dad found me another, but that got stolen too.
Bought the SV in 2007 and then met Carol in 2008, she was already a biker and a Bike Instructor. She put me on the CG125 and from there I really took off as a biker. Carol even managed to get my Mum to go for a ride on the back of the SV.
My Brother wanted to be a biker until one of his friends got killed a couple of years ago.
I am pretty much the only one in my family. However Carol's parents were both bikers, although her Dad only gave up when he got too ill to ride. They all did the Bulldog as a family a few years ago and all rode up together. I think I have the best Mother in Law in the world.

Brother has had bikes for over 30 years and his wife loves going pillion.
