Any ideas how i can get this on.

My idea was to fit a clip/spring link, ride to the bike shop and have it replaced and rivetted, but i cant get the clip link on, impossible to compress the plates enough.

Any reckon i could leave the xrings out of the one side and ride sedately to the shop 1 mile away? cant see it hurting.

Probably it is friction of plates not the rings which is causing the problem.

I doubt 1 mile will cause an issue.

Im out of options now, other than pushing it lol.

You normally need a G clamp to push it on

Yeah, i just dont see how i get the spring link in, if a clamp is in the way. Ill need to knock up something.

10mph over 1 mile should be fine.... lol

Friction keeps it there normally

Get an 8mm spanner, put that over hole in link, press it on so pin goes through hole in spanner. Do each pin a little at a time so it does not go on on the p*ss

I can get it over the pins, its the xrings pushing back thats my problem, i cant see the groove for the clip to slide into. I think two spanners about 20mm and a clamp might work as a plate compressor. Ill have a go tomorrow, its so frustrating, im so close lol.

edit: no that wont work lol, slide need somewhere to slide the clip. ffs.

edit: The plate from the rivit link would hold it on by friction, but the clip link plate are designered to slip on easier.

the one on the sv has 18k on it and looks fine and no stiff links, just treated it to some of the new castrol racing lube

i want a new chain because it looks naff but if i do get one i want a supersprox rear sprocket and they are ££ so thats putting me off getting one and the fact i dont need one lol

Yes you have a habit of spending too much on your bike! The chain that was on mine had done 24 possibly, no stiff links, just very loose and rattled, nw its a nice smooth metallic noise :-)

You back on the road yet? im often bored, could nip by one day.

chain on my SV was really stiff - found that some pr@tt had "fitted" a link with a completely different size, and must have riveted it with a mole grip !!! New link and it's like new.
