Pretty sure my k3 650 ones need changing but looking for just k3's is pain so was wondering are other models inter changable with this model?

The normal ticking but the last week days got alot louder.

I revved it up to 5k and closed the throttle then you hear the slap/rattle of the chain so maybe its either sticking or between clicks.

The bike is at 40k miles now

You can take them out and inspect them. See where it is when you pull it out, if you take spring out first you can see if it has got to full extension.

Also other trick is to put it in gear and rock it backwards, thinking being that this will move chain slack to that side of cam sprockets and let tensioner go onto next click.

Hmm, clever, Assuming tensioner is fully functional and not sticky

I am not sure this is effective myself, considering everything flaps about like a bugger as well as friction of valvegear naturally putting slack there anyway.

Cheers any tips on getting them out and back again not done it before

They are easier to deal with than curvy one.

Take bolt off back, remove spring (careful, bit of tension), take tensioner out. See where it is, it is ratchet mechanism, should have some room left to move forward (into engine to take up slack).

Check for worn/broken teeth on plunger or ratchet pawl.

To replace, you must compress the tensioner, you need to move ratchet out of way to do this, it is obvious from looking at it but hard to explain.

Then you place it back into engine and bolt it down, and push spring in and replace bolt. Pushing spring in extends tensioner.

All IIRC, I suggest you double check a manual with regards doing the valve clearances on a K3 (it is in that section). That is disclaimer that I may be thinking of totally different bike or something.

The front cct is at its final click

Double check again IMO just to check it didn't drop a few clicks as you pulled it out. Feel how much friction there is in the mechanism to see whether this is likely.

(just double check before firing into replacing camchains)

I just got a but kicking for not setting the cam to TF and the fear of dropping a tooth so took out the plugs and turned the engine over by hand to check.

Now ive got to check the time he said its 21 teeth back?

You put tensioner back in to turn it right?

Yeah i put it back in then the spring and bolt heard it click lots then turned the crank 360 degrees
