I thought the enemy planes were migs, or was that earlier in the film when he gave them the finger (or bird)

if you do the maths, there are 6 migs in the end battle but as they pass between them the numbers quoted add up to 7.:D

They weren't F105 Starfighters, or the F114. They were Northop F5E's, with a smattering of the 2 seat version F Tiger II's.
