Now the summer season of motorbikes and sizzling tarmac is drawing to a close, no more sunlight and sparky sliders.

Soon the snow will be falling and the skis will be appearing, that squeak of dry powder, the crunch of hard packed piste. So what has been your best ski experience and why? Where to head for a couple of winter weeks?

All I remember about going skiing is falling 12 feet head first out of a helicopter in Norway and landing badly with a 50lb bergen and an SLR (Self loading rifle) that broke my arm. I got an infection and was rushed to hospital rather rapidly. The two days inbetween the accident and the airlift out are nothing but a very hazy and patchy memory.

I'm a ski virgin. Got my first trip this coming Christmas. I'm going to Livigno, Italy. Apparently it's very good for beginners and intermediates. Paying €50 pppn half board including passes. We're driving over mid December and returning the day after boxing day.

Off to TK Maxx this morning to look for ski ware, any advice.

Meribel in the Three Valleys a few years ago. First couple of days were warm, dry and I was sweating in just a t-shirt under my jacket.

Then it snowed, alot. Was bl**dy awesome few days after that, didnt snow much during the day but heavy falls at night. We were gettng up early and getting the first chair lift up and making fresh tracks on the way down, were some nice pieces of off piste that had a huge heavy covering of snow on. I was boarding, was absolutly brilliant.

Never Skiied on snow, only ever dry sloped!
My mate is a ski Instuctor (youll laugh in a sec) he tried to land a 720 spin and, well Didnt, he broke his Femur and has been in hospital for the last week and had 2 ops i think!
He has the worst luck of ANYONE i know!

first proper trip abroad, courchevel for christmas, we had a week of perfect sunshine, so many good days boarding. courchevel is just an amazing place, i even seen a maybach drive past in town! slopes were always in perfect condition. sitting at the top of the salluire (i think) lift righ tat the highest point in the resort eating lunch was just phenomenal. seeing small aeroplanes take off and land at the airport halfway up a mountain again, just bizzarre.

had some brilliant times in scotland too. last seasons amazing powder days were one highlight, just over an hour drive from my house getting to ride proper deep fluffy powder was just brilliant.

a day at glencoe again in powder, taking it a bit off piste finding fresh powder late into the afternoon again was amazing. if you like steep skiing and boarding, get to glencoe and give the flypaper run a go!

cannot wait for the snow to come again! love the snow so much!

Just blew my hard earned in TK Maxx in Norwich today. Got Rossingo Expert Jacket £100 should be £400, Goldwin pants £80 should be $600 (really US site) and Level gloves £30 should be £80.

I've got the kit but I'll make a complete kn0b of myself.

Oh dont worry about that, you wont be alone, especially if you are going to ski school, you'll fall on your butt plenty of times, but everybody else around you will be doing exactly the same ! its part of learning, as said in The Matrix, "Everybody falls the first time"

Mt Hood, Oregon, drove for two hours through drizzle, climbed through the snow line and clouds, arrived at lifts in beautiful sunshine, 6.30am, first on the lift, headed all the way to the top, approx 10 inch new powder, me and my board making fresh tracks through clean snow, dazzling blue sky, no one else around for the first couple of runs.

Not religeous, but days like that make me believe there may be a god. Was truly awesome.

Used to live a 2 hour drive from 3 ski resorts when I was in the US, miss it like crazy. As soon as my lad is old enough for ski school, we are definitely off somewhere. Makes winters worthwhile. For those off somewhere this season, enjoy. And wear a lid, packed snow is damn hard.

I'll stick to water skiing.
The girls wear less clothes, I'm not freezing, and if you fall it doesn't hurt.

Couple of years ago we went to the czech republic, my brother kitted out in a bright red 1 piece suit. Turns out he's a complete bloody nutter on skis, with a sort of "point yourself downhill and hope for the best" style.
I was having a brilliant run down this red, dead fast and icy, having little slides all the way down as I was traversing across... then I see this red streak go past like a rocket and down the hill ... skis parallel, absolutely no effort made to slow his descent!! Coming over the last little rise in the hill I see my bro on the deck in what looks like a plane crash site... skis, gloves, goggles, poles, boots, phone, fags, wallet, hat scattered around in this debris field around him ligged out like a starfish giggling like a nutter!

Popping my skiing cherry January last year with my gf in Chamonix. Didn't take to skiing so tried my hand, well feet at snowboarding :smt109 loved it and am now hooked

Most memorable moment since has to be heliboarding there the 3rd time we went. Not cheap but definitely worth it for the thrill

hopefully off in feb. Im a pretty good skier. Started boarding properly last year and might keep it up, not 100% though. Im getting soft in my old age so the boarding keeps me safer :)
