Are the cam chains manually adjusted on the curvy or do they auto adjust themselves? If they are manually done can some explain how as there is no mention in the Haynes manual i have.

Yeah the curvy ones are a bit crap, you can wind the engine backwards with a spanner (or bump it) and they shut up for a while. Fit the later ones, K3/K4, they go straight on but you need all the bits inc the end plug.

I'm intigued how does winding the engine backwards help? What exactly would i need to change em over?

First I've heard of it.

Gynaecology skills would be useful, they are a bit tight to get to! You might try just removing the small bolt in the end of the tensioners and using a screwdriver to manually back them off a few times (by turning clockwise until it stop and then pulling screwdriver out) to ensure they are free. Obviously replace the bolt afterwards.

If you have to change them they are held in with cap head bolts (5mm I think), and you get to the front cylinder by raising or removing the fuel tank. I found the only way to get to the rear one was using a long extension and a universal joint, to go up past the rear shock.

I find rear dead easy, just whip RHS rearset off and you can even see it!

The rattle is pretty much par for the course and not detrimental.

Just seems to get louder, strange thing is sometimes it really bad and sounds terrible and other times not there at all! Like Monday my 12 mile morning commute it didn't rattle at all but today on my way home it sounded awful

how does your rattle happen?
i get one when im just about to stop and pull the clutch in, n it only happens when the revs drop fast.

i took my tensioner out today and now i cant get it back in without it popping back out of it self! so i may have to drop the engine :)

Pretty much always there or audible, can just about hear a slight rattle at idle, it sounds really bad @ 4-5k rpm, the above 5k rpm it more or less isn't there at all.

Strange this is some times it doesn't do it at all like this morning, was a bit rattly when i started it first thing, once it warmed up there was nothing.

I suspect it does make things a lot easier. I wound it down with a long screwdriver held in one hand whilst putting the cap head screws in with the other.
