Meet my new beautiful steed-to-be, a Y reg Yellow S Curvy. She's lurrrvely :D Oh and note her already impeccable taste in music :-D

https://fbcdn-sphotos-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-snc6/224908_10150588088800553_879760552_18259385_154713 5_n.jpg

Got her for a bargain too (which is lucky as I am now officially skint!). Didn't expect to get one so quickly so very happy.

She is to be converted into a naked (lucky I know a man who can eh? ;-) ) MY choice as although I love the look of her faired, I don't like the feel of it plus less stuff to damage should I drop her, less space to take up in the garage (which currently has 5 bikes and a mountain bike in it) and easier to move about at the bottom of our rather steep drive.

Tis just a shame I now have to spend a bikeless 2 months dreaming of riding her!

Oh and before I forget HUGE THANKS TO SVSTE ;)

Nice one MYC! Shame it's a curvy, but at least you get more of them in Yellow ;-)

Conversion to a standard curvy, or are you doing some streetfighter headlights? Naked yoke and bars, or are you keeping the clip ons cafe racer stylee?

No not keeping clip ons. No idea on the headlight yet, will see what's available. I've only got a week to look at it lovingly, then I'm away for two months while YC fiddles with it, who knows what I will find when I get back! He'll have to email me pics as he goes along methinks...

ALl will come with time, I'm going to be SUCH an old lady when I first get her on the road, that's once I've overcome the first big hurdle of getting her up our drive #gulp#

Awwww fantastic news hun......... I`m really pleased for you and I can`t think of anyone who deserves this more than you do x

Thankyou Claire! I am so happy. I really do think I was meant to have this bike because of three signs:

1) One of the previous addresses of the previous owner was in Darwen, a place my mother enjoyed some of her childhood in
2) the street was the same family name as my boyfriend
and 3) the bike came with a Metallica sticker on the screen....Hovis, our daft Welsh friend who is no longer with us, well he too had a yellow curvy and of course the song played at his funeral was by....yep Metallica! I tell ya, life scares me sometimes! Someone's watching over me :)

If you can do it on the YBR, you can do it on the SV. If I can do it on the Raptor, you can do it on the SV. If you have the whole of July to get acquainted, you'll have probably had 31 days more riding experience than I have in the whole of the last year and the two months you're on craggy island!

hehe he wouldn't dare Carl! Although I wouldn't say no to a Penske shock but I think I'd rather see it standard so I'd notice the difference lol.

And Bananaman, my time away has, how shall we say this, come at a rather convenient time muahaha! Unfortunately I shall miss the YBR's new owner as it will be sold while I'm away, my job to clean it up a bit this week before I go.

Penske and other fancy shocks are for pie munchers, you weigh the same as a small bag of sugar, so not likely to benefit from such expense. Besides, that original shock hasn't gone very far, so will probably feel far superior to the YBR anyway!

Not entirely true. Good quality suspension makes for a better ride. Some people buy it because they think it will make them a riding god but all it does is make them a slightly less rich riding numpty. Quality suspension set up correctly rides the lumps and bumps better than most stock shocks and forks ever will, so the rider will notice a positive difference even if their riding doesn't improve as a result.

Having said that, my mate Danny is leading the Hottrax Michelin Power Cup 600 series on a 2009 ZX6R with absolutely bog stock suspension - no fancy shock or forks, just out of the crate stuff that's been properly set up... and a bog standard engine/ecu etc.

Those of us with fists of ham and fingers of butter need good suspension to go fast :)

Well quite, as you know both my SVs have had upgraded suspension of some description that didn't cost the earth, and is adequate for the massive lumps and bumps around here, and yes there is a positive improvement for my way of riding, and Chris set it up lovely for my weight, but what I have ain't what everyone says you should have, as it was made to be a replacement for stock, and not for something else.
As for the bit in bold, well I was being polite, but you pretty much wrote what i was thinking in the post you replied to;)

Sorry for the derail

What a blast from the past!
Somewhat shocking to see a pic of someone I (used to) know well in the US on the .org!
Shannon is about Lissa's height. The bike is lowered, the seat is cut down and check out those riding boots! LOL
And just like Lissa, Shannon is a giant among people.

This bike began life as a blue N model curvy.
I believe they sold it when her and hubby moved to Hawaii.
Sort of lost touch with them somewhere there after.
Last I heard she was riding on the street again, on a 250, with a local group of women riders there.

How does it being naked make it easier to get up the hill?

yorkie_chris
09-05-11, 01:17 PM
Makes it much easier to turn around at the bottom, the faired ones are much heavier at the front so quite hard to spin on the sidestand compared to the naked, not such a problem on the flat, but at an angle to a steep slope it's a bugger.
