About 6 months ago I used to hate sitting and watching movies but recently I've grown an addiction to them. So much so that I'm watching 1 or 2 movies a day. I'm looking at movies from about 1994 to 2010, not really worried about genre as long as it's a great movie. I've made an image up so that you can see what movies I've already seen. Thanks everyone. :)

The Replacements - wasn't so sure about it to start with but by the end, it easily became one of my top ten. Keanu Reeves is brilliant in it.

Inception - needs complete and utter concentration otherwise you'll lose track of what's happening. Very cleverly made though with an incredibly well written plot.

Lord of the Rings trilogy- doesn't matter whether you're a fan of Tolkien or not, the films are epic and definitely worth your time.

Thanks for the suggestions so far, looks like I've got plenty more to get through. I'll be giving Badger's and Andrew's a miss I think, the plot of the movie doesn't seem to go anywhere. Inception is one of the best movies that I've seen so far. I should of mention before you posted Mr Speirs that movies must not contain Russel Brand. We all have people we cannot stand and he is that person.

Black Swan is also a very good movie but there is some messed up bits in it.

A couple that I watched with no expectation and then went Wow what a great film were 1. Leon - moody, dark and sensitive 2. The Cinderella Man - inspirational makes you realise how lucky we are and how good brave guys can sometimes get a break, true story.

One for luck but can't remember what year it was National Lampoons Animal House!!!!!

Idle is spot on about Leon - truly excellent film. Can also recommend Ronin (cracking car chases and good twisty plot), Romeo Is Bleeding (might be a bit before 1994 but Gary Oldman is at his best) and Hot Fuzz (just very funny). For scifi, try Serenity or perhaps Minority Report. For religiousy/horror type of thing, Prophecy is a bit older but very good (2 sequels are a bit pants) and Dogma is superb.

Obviously, by law, you must have the Lord Of The Rings Trilogy and Alien Quadrilogy (proper 1st four Alien films - Alien vs Predator films are strictly optional, they are entertaining but in no way great films). Wifey has just piped up that you should also have first Rocky film. Never seen it, can't comment.

Yes to Tarantino pair there. Kill Bill Vol 1 is pretty good too. My little people both love Evolution and I, Robot. Can I go back to about 1984 / 85 and insist you watch St Elmos Fire (my favourite Brat Pack film), Breakfast Club (Wifey's favourite) and The Killing Fields (simply one of the most thought-provoking films ever made).

Why are not watching anything before 1994, any reason why?

Mainly because I think there is many great films after 94. Plus seeing old FX's and ghetto CGI just makes me cringe. Every time I see a computer pre-94 it's normally got Windows 3.1 or something on it and I just laugh when I maybe shouldn't.

And I've just finished watching the mechanic and it's fantastic. 9/10

Amen to that. Twas a really good movie that.

My Mum suggested The Shawshank Redemption which comes in at my 94 limit. I was really sceptical about it because a film has to be really good for a movie that's over 2 hours. I have to say that is a truly brilliant movie plus Morgan Freeman is an ace actor.

Being an university student I often find myself in the same situation so my housemates and I decided to work our way down the IMDB top 250. It is quite a good way to find films you may otherwise not have tried. However it is a shame you haev said post 1994, as that rules out some amazing films like the Godfather 1+2, however post 1994 from my personal favs, and trying not to give ones that have already been said#

Cars
Batman Begins/ Dark Knight
The Pianist
Wall E
Anchorman (not everyones cup of tea, but i love it)
Enemy at the gates
Despicable Me
Megamind

As you can tell i quite like pixar films

so my housemates and I decided to work our way down the IMDB top 250.

Tee Hee hee that's exactly what I have been doing. The only problem is I'm easily put off if the artwork cover doesn't look good if it the plot doesn't sound great. So having people actually recommend movies gives me a reason to watch them.

If I ever get round to watching all of the great movies from 1994 - 2010 I'll make another thread asking people to list movies from 1800 - 1994. ;)

Oh as for famous movies never seen. Dirty Dancing is a film everyone else seems to have seen apart from me.

Too many films are OVER CGI'd IMHO, its unrealistic and in many cases too good to be true, and I can't watch them, its as bad as Ghetto CGi

You'll miss out on classic films such as Blade Runner

Funny man cult horror comedy which is not that well known but is worth a watch and the lead is played by a welsh accented human punch and judy character, great one liners etc.

Braindead which is a 92 film so outside your 94 req but so funny and gory at the same time.

I created this thread in the hope of getting a few responses to keep me going. Then BAM 10 pages with all sorts of recommendations. I've gone from having a couple of movies to watch to a years worth of movies to watch. Should keep me busy for a while. Thanks for the suggestions. :)
