This was hanging loose in the engine. So I plugged it back in. Good or bad? And what is it? :p

It's a 1.4 mk4 golf

Prob not a good idea it being unplugged, might fill up with water.

That there hole is where they put the hampsters in that make the engine go around, they have probobly all escaped now so you had better get down the shop and get some more, hth.

It's the green thingy that sometimes goes in the whatsit!

Timing hole for the flywheel.
I'd go with that, it's on the bellhousing inside of which is the flywheel, which in turn is a common place for timing marks to be found.

It's where you put the petrol or engine oil, either will do ;)

It's the cap for flywheel locking pin for when fitting timing belt the cap is only to keep all the s**t of the day out

Ooh, that's the hole where 'the sun don't shine'... I've always wondered where that was!

Oooookay so the general consensus is that it's no big deal and no harm has been done by having it flapping about for a while

Cheers :)
