Thought I'd introduce myself after been long time lurker, I'm what you call an older member, been biking on and off for 30 years, a few of which were off roading in my early teen years. Will be looking to buy a bike in the next couple of weeks and have narrowed it down to a choice of 2, one being an sv650s and I'll be keeping my eye on the buy and sell section of the forum.
Gary :)

I was looking at a honda hornet, I've spent about a month now trying to decide. Got some money coming through in the next couple of weeks so I'm definately buying and hoping to take advantage of maybe some seasonal savings. :)

Have you had a go of them both? I must admit I haven't been riding long so I've only been on a couple of bikes but I did quite like the look of the Hornet

Hello.

You should be wary of using the word 'virgin' in case Bear hears.

No, there only seems to be one bike shop by me and they have loads of other bikes. Hornets seem quite rare on the classifieds compared to sv's, also more expensive. I also did look at a kawasaki er650f but the finish on the ones I've seen is a lot worse than an sv. I have to take seat height into account, I'm 5'6 with a 30 inside leg, I have had a cbr 600f before so I know a hornet is fine and also know that sv's suit shorter riders.

Hello

I heard a while back that they were doing great deals on the new SV650s can't quite remember what but something along the lines of monthly payments and some additional extras it think for a brand new SV which cost about 5-6k new so if thats an option that you be intrested in have an ask around at some dealers especialy with winter here be sure to pick it up even cheaper. i believe its to intrest new bikers into the bigger alternative than a 250 or 125.

Thanks for the info but I will be looking at the second hand market, bit too expensive new and don't want to tie myself into anything with credit the way the economy is at the moment 8-[

Thanks for the welcome everyone, hopefully I'll get to know some of you over the coming months. If anyone had advice on what to look out for when buying a used sv and what mileage the valve clearances should of been checked it would be much appreciated. Thanks again. Gary :D

As in avatar picture or picture on your post?

HoL

Avatar pic is through the user control panel if you click on quick links, I'm a bit hit & miss myself with getting pics in the posts - click on go advanced instead of quick post & have a play with the insert image / attachment / insert link buttons. You can preview on there to see if you've got it right.

My mate has got a Blue Curvy which looks nearly new in the for sale section, was owned by an old guy before him and v low mileage, very quiet engine no rattles or anything. its the one listed by topfridgeman.

Had 2 SV's and one Hornet, Hornet is a bit bland for my tastes.

There seems to be a bit of a curvy vs pointy thing going on amongst some members on here, lol, is this true ? Thanks hol, reason why I wanted to know is if I'm looking for a used bike with about 15, 20 k on the mileage it would make it easier for me knowing its been checked already. Thanks again:)

I did notice that mate, looks good with the pictures and I would be definately interested but I have a couple of weeks till the funds are available but it is quite close to me. Probably be gone by then unfortunately. Thanks for letting me know though.:)

think Hol answered the picture part, as for the number of hits I'm getting it could be to do with the sv virgin heading, ;) and of course the fact that members on here seem keen to help newbies out, of which you and I are both in the category. Have you bought yours yet ? curvy or pointy ?
