MW3 who was sad enough to queue at midnight?
I did but only because my brother convinced me it would be a giggle to book the day off work. So far tonight i've stood out in the drizzle 15mins waiting for him to pick me up. 20 mins queued to collect my game (blockbusters) and a further 5mins walking round the outside of the shopping centre to then wait another 45mins (outside Game) and he is still in the queue.
Right giggle so far :(
This game better be good.

Well, after a while longer (almost 1hr 20mins after i got mine) my bro got his copy & after getting home, playing x1 mission we tried going to lobby & playing a few games.
Thus far we have not been able to play any tdm etc together, kicking at least x1 of us out :(
I think this happened at the launch of mw2 and took a couple of days to level out.
The special ops & private matches are working fine.
Gonna call it a night but I'll be on in the morning (later today) Tuesday.

I tend to find with preorders I get them a day or two early. I had Halo Reach and Gears 3 a day early, Forza 4 two days early. A friend tells me she's had MW3 since Saturday, due to independent games shops in Scotland selling stuff as soon as their stock arrives, release dates be damned!

Pfffttt..... BF3 is the way forward, Cod is just plain boring now.
I was playing COD1 and 2 on the PC Manny moons ago before all the hype.
Its just the same crap now on different maps they need to make a new engine to change the user experience..
flying helicopters, jets and tanks across huge maps and being able to demolish buildings is what its all about.
You probably won't get the same experience as you do on a pc but I would suggest renting it for a week from blockbuster and see what you think much more fun than cod.
And you can work in squads with your mates. up to 5 people can get in one chopper n stuff its brilliant.

On console, there's only 12 players per side which tends to mean you can run around for hours without seeing anyone else.
Also, I'm not so sure about renting it. You don't get to do any of the fun stuff in the singleplayer like fly the helicopters, and unlike previous EA games with the stupid online pass, there doesn't seem to be an option for a five day 'trial' before you have to buy one. Unless they've been issuing special rental editions, you won't be able to play it online without buying the pass.

on BF3 on the PC its upto 32 players per side.
After reading a little bit more i think the maps are cut down on the consoles to allow for the smaller teams.
I wonder what the local splitscreen multiplayer is like on mw3. A big bonus on black ops was they added ai bots to both teams to make up the numbers. Was good fun. As far as I know BF doesnt do local multiplayer which is a shame

Mine should hopefully arrive today, was placed on the delivery van at 7:08am today. Only ordered at 3pm yesterday so not bad.
As for BF3, my PC needs an upgrade to play it, got a Core i5, but need additional RAM and new Graphics card to play. The PS3 version is rubbish - as like has been said, its cut down etc. One of the plusses about it on PC is that your squads can use proper tactics over large areas - some of the games I've witnessed on the BF2 were immense.
However, for me, being able to pick up my PS3 controller anytime and plough through MW3 is more appealing. Hopefully it will be as good as the hype.

Not getting MW3 at the minute as BF3 is too good not to play.
If the graphics are s***e on MW3 it will make BF3 look like the better game.

Yeah it's 12 per side on console, 16 per side on PC, unless you manage to get into a 64 player server then it's 32 per side on PC (which is how the game's meant to be played).
The maps are a bit smaller but generally all the control points are all clustered together so there's huge expanses of NOTHING all around. It's rare to encounter a proper enemy force on maps like Caspian or Kharg Island, you get a lonely tank come wandering up alone or maybe with one guy running behind.
I think for all DICE's bluster about how good they are at programming they could have managed 16 per side on console if they'd spent more time on that and less time having lots of dust and crap blowing around on the maps, or the ridiculous and irritating 'flashlight in your eyes' business. It would have made a huge difference in bringing the game to life.
So far I've only had proper big pitched battles on Damavand and *spits* Operation Metro which are both very narrow, constrained CoD style maps which isn't supposed to be what BF games are about.

The small style maps are a good edition to the game imo, after hours of playing Caspian and other larger maps the small Death match maps give you a nice change of play for a bit.

I have got 2 servers up and running on BF3
A small 8 slot and a 32 slot we got the 8 slot to do some private flying to get pro with the helicopters and jets :p

Nah, on 360, that's where all my friends are. TBH I wouldn't get it on PC anyway, I don't want Origin on my computer and don't see why I should have to either. Ta for the invite tho.

Origin is not a good enough reason to avoid BF3 on the PC yes it has it issues but noting to get your nickers in a twist about.
Steam is lacking if anything, steam still aren't giving gamers the option to install games to specified drives which is a pain in the ass when you have an SSD.

Got mine for my bday (tomorrow) had an hours play and fed up with it already. Mainly the 360 degree spining quick scopers or other quick scopers that already dominate and ruin the game grrrr, there should be a no sniper gun lobby. Unimpressed so far :(

I will stick with BF3, I used to be a COD fan and loved MW1 however every single COD since then is basically MW1 with new maps and weapon/player skins but they have the cheek to charge you 40quid for it which is nothing a few geeks on the internet cant do for free by making a couple of mods.
At least BF3 is a completely new game from BF2, new engine with new graphics and the sound is absolutely amazing on my Onkyo amp and Kef speakers
Plus with MW3 you will very likely have to download the rest of the multiplay maps for £15quid in 2 weeks time, Im sure MW2 had addon map packs you could purchase on xbox live before the game was actually launched.

The map thing is starting to pee me off as well, it started out being about £6 then they started doing 2-3 map packs per game release, then on black ops the price went up, I didn't download them tbh.

I'm totally crap at it but I have a lot of fun playing it on 360.
12 per side isn't an issue for me, on some of the urban maps it even gets a tad busy at times. Couldn't imagine 32 per side!

Well I spent a few hours playing online and gradually got better, upto level 15, come off line and played a few missions on the actual game, just gone back online and it's reset my level back down to level 1, I don't understand, proper pi55ed me off.

That's because BF2 came out in 2005! You need to consider how much of a new game it is compared to Bad Company 2 (not much)

Ditto. I watched some MW3 gameplay and it was frightening, reminded me of why I never really got on with online play. If you don't commit to playing it 12hrs a day you don't stand a chance.
The guy I was watching was one shot, one kill. It was really cool watching him call in air drop supplies and then using a laptop to target missiles, but then I'd never get enough kills to acquire that.
I'll probably buy it when it drops down to £20 say, but at the moment everyone seems to be warming me up to the idea of getting BF3.

Don't be put off by the vids etc you see on Youtube. The people that mostly post those tend to be the top top few percent.
Plus they will most stick to "Hardcore" modes. Most people who stick to the regular modes of play vary vastly but all are beatable, occasionaly you will get a superb player - but not often. I play on average, at most 1 hour per day....as will have days when I don't play. Once you get the hang of it its easy, if you stick to "Mercenary" then you also don't get teams ganging up etc.
I'm a free for all kinda guy. It's one of the game modes I find enjoyable because of the speed involved and the fact they're normally small maps.
MW3 just isn't different enough from previous versions to make it particularly exciting for me... and I LOVED MW2. I played it for about 5 hours yesterday and I think I'm level 28 or 29, got a decent class already so I'm just not motivated to explore and use the other weapons.
All in all I'm pretty disappointed.

I agree, it is no more than a polish of MW2......but for me that is good. MW2 was the better of the COD's for me, this is slightly better again - seems smoother plus I like the return to unlocking things rather than buying stuff.
They were never going to be revolutionary.....would put off too many fans. I quite like the tag collecting games though - you kill someone, then collect the dog tags to confirm the kill. It stops campers a bit which is good.
I hope, that they call it a day after this one and do something different....but I imagine it will roll on again next year to a different genre again. For now, happy days as quite like it so far.
I forgot to mention that it had slipped my mind of just how angry and aggressive online game play can make me. My mic was playing up last night whilst trying to play with friends... I was NOT a happy bunny :-P
Bought my first ever FPS this week - BF3 on the PS3 - just playing single player mode at the moment - its great - although my roughly aim with L1, shoot and hope for the best style of shooting will probably see me last about 2 seconds per spawn online :lol: Hopefully by the time I finish SP mode I will have improved a little!

The online play annoyed me at first last night, there seemed to be a UAV on constantly so that coupled with no idea of how to get round the maps, I died a lot in the early games.
I soon got better though and once I had unlocked classes it was easier.
Gotta start all over again tonight cos it reset back to level 1 for some fecking annoying reason.
Hurts me to say, black ops gun battles are much better, Im not keen on the game but if you have a face to face gun battle, you've got a chance, with mw2 and 3 I have sometimes put half a clip in a player and he's had a lazy shot and killed me with one shot, don't seem right somehow, happens loads less on black ops.

That's lag, that was always one of my big problems with CoD (and online FPS in general). You shoot loads of rounds into him and nothing happens, he fires back once and you're dead. What makes it worse in CoD is you then get the KillCam which shows that, from the game's perspective, you waddled into his view and then just stood there, scratching yourself, while he had time to take careful aim and blow your uncomprehending head off.
It's also a large part of the reason I hate one hit kill melee attacks. You hammer the right stick to stab and nothing seems to happen, then your opponent does it to you. Broken a joypad in frustration at that, hitting the damn stick trying to remind it what its job is since it seemed to have forgotten that time.

I was featured in killcam last night when my team lost. My teammate was standing behind me, every shot that hit him went through me first and also some hit me that didn't hit him. He died and he had no damage prior to this. Made me laugh but a pile are doo really

Well, if he was standing behind you and the enemy is using a rifle that could well be bullet penetration... REALISM!
I miss old school FPS games where you had laser rifles and plasma launchers and you had to shoot each other a lot while running around. You didn't have to worry about the game simulating you losing the ability to aim accurately and very few weapons were one-hit kills. Heck, my friends all enjoy Unreal Tournament 3 because you can run around and have fun like this without worrying that unless you get the first shot off you're as good as dead.

Quake 2 CTF, hells yeah. The grappling hook was awesome, you could hang from the ceiling at the very top of the flag room with it, and firing your chaingun down at anyone who tried to cap the flag.

My No 1 son pre-ordered it off Amazon. His twin brother wandered into Tesco yesterday and got one off the shelf, no queue. Which is exactly what No 1 son yesterday afternoon cos his pre-order hadn't been delivered.

I got BF3 and MW3 both on their release days. BF3 was used for about 20 mins and then black ops went back in till MW3 came out. COD:MW3 is a Much better game then BF3. up to level 38 already :)

Finally someone with some sense. Looking forward to this, sadly my PC died yesterday so I've ordered myself a PS3 so I can still play it!
I've only played MW3 online (LV 54) it's a decent game but it's just an add on from MW2. I don't even think they've changed the guns, just a few more perks and different maps. If I payed £40 I would have been dissapointed. BF3 I played the demo (PS3) and it was pretty good, I like the big maps and the fact you rarely get shot in the back, but the graphics are terrible compared, maybe just because it was the demo.

Could be crap discs as its been replaced four times now and xbox never used standing up (wont fit under telly) and tried on three xboxes from two years old to brand new and error still crops up intermittently. :smt089

Far superior game and no disc errors
You have just as much chance of getting disc errors with any other game as you have MW3, only reason there are more reported errors with MW3 is because it's sold so many copies.

I get intermittent freezing going on xbox live server on MW3, takes ages to select and no music but once passed the page(pressing A rapidly so it registers in the split second it unfreezes) is fine. Guessing its a reading error. Anyone else get this?

Yeah freezing mid game when it doesn't suffer from the unreadable disc error first of course :mad: all other games dvds and audio discs run fine its just the mw3 one that refuses to work properly. Takes about 20 re-starts to get it going then its fine? Lots of people seem to be having the same problems with it?

mines a bit different. Set up to go straight to MP. When it loads music comes on for about half a sec, then waits for 5 or 6 seconds and then repeats the process.. Have to keep pressing A so when it comes back momentarily it goes to next page are starts loading stats from device but it can take ages to catch it right. Then all OK from where you go standard or hardcore. weird..
I'd really get frustrated if it froze mid game and connection was OK, as it would only do it when I was doing OK I bet!
