2000 SV650 done about 18,000 miles.

The original Gel Battery that was in when I bought the bike was totally wasted, we tried charging it, jumping and bumping but never got the bike to start so that went.

But I needed to use the bike there was no other way to get to college. So I used a spare Ducati 998R Battery my dad had, was 12v as well so thought if it works I can use the bike for a couple of days.

So fully charged that battery, it lasted about half a week before I was bump starting the bike again. Got so flat that the bike wasn't running properly so back on the charger overnight. And everynight for about 2 weeks.

Finally my new MotoBatt battery comes down, in it goes and everythings dandy for about half a week with night riding this time so definitely better than the Duc batt. With the lights the battery goes down like no ones business but with them turned off I can ride for at least a week.

So is it most likely I've fried the charging system? :(

The charging system is a well known weak point on the SV.

Have a look at http://www.electrosport.com/media/pdf/fault-finding-diagram.pdf

You need a multimeter to check the ststem.A cheap one will do.What you dont want to do is keep putting batteries in it if it is fecking them.Thats expensive at £50 a time. The "original gel battery" wasnt original though as they dont have gel as standard.

Depending on how far you've been riding the bike before manually re-charging the battery it may not be charging at all which could be an easy fix.

As the post above says you need a tester. A Haynes would be handy too.
