I was coming home from work when the speedo suddenly stopped working ie it just displays 0mph.
I have checked the manual so will do some checking and poking around probably at the weekend. I have done a search on the forum but was just wondering if anyone can tell me if its common and what usually causes it and how to fix/prevent it. Possibly speedo drive??
ive heard alot about rotors breaking, you had the front wheel out recently??

this. Take front wheel off and check that the rotor is still in one piece
this happened to my sk3 a few months ago. the rotor was broken. I glued it back together with superglue and it has been fine since.

Another bump for checking the rotor. They're quite fragile. Get your front wheel out and it should be immediately obvious whether it's damaged or not.

Exactly the same on mine. Rota broke, glued back together with epoxy, worked fine again. The magnet is very soft and easy to damage.

Take out the drive and check the rotor.
If rotor is ok, test the drive as the do fail from time to time. The test takes a basic testing rig and a multimeter, voltage (dc) should be rig supply with the wheel pulsing drive or zero.

I don't think I'll be glueing this rotor back together. It just looks as though it has disintergrated. It doesnt seem to want to come out either, I might have to chisel it out.

Have you had a tyre change recently as this is a common place for the rotor to be fecked

Only had it for a few months but the tyre was not new when i got it. It sounds like thats the most likely cause of damge and it's taken a while for mine to break.
I am going to order a new magnet and hope there is no lasting damage to the unit otherwise my next post will be in the wanted section :(

It can work for a while as all the loose bits act as resistance to the rotor it would have gone next time you changed the tyre anyway

Oh poo, my rotor let go today while out for a ride. I was too tired to check the wheel when I got home after a lovely 100 miles, half of which was with out speedo!
Never realised just how much I rely on knowing how fast or slow I am going until my rotor packed up. When I took the forks apart last week, I found that the teeth had snapped off again. Looks like the glue failed me this time. Bad show Suzuki for making more parts out of that special Suzuki cheese!
Time to phone the Brother in law and order a new part. Most upset.
Anyone know if the K3 magnet is different to the others in the range or are they all the same?
Cheers you lovely, shiny people.
Hugs

On the Robinsons website there is only the option for 99-02 IIRC so i emailed them and they confirmed it was the same for a K3. The part code is 34983-21E00.

Is there an alternative to the fragile suzuki one ?

I spoke to my Brother in Law who works for Fowlers in Bristol and he did not know of a alternative. However, by his own admission this does not mean that one does not exist somewhere.
I now have a new cheese one and took extra special care when fitting it. Speedo now works again. [-(
