Thought it was about time I arranged something, since I didn't do one last year.

Date: Saturday 7th April

Start: Long Itch Diner, Long Itchington (http://g.co/maps/3rjrs)

Time: 09:30 meet for cooked breakfast and a 10:30 departure

Finish: Market Harborough

Route: http://g.co/maps/r68js (we've done the main section of it before, credits go to Mr Spiers I think, but I've used a new route from Long Itch to Market Harborough)

Mileage: 111

Stops:

Quick Re-group at Theddingworth (http://g.co/maps/xmwtk)
Ducati Uppingham (http://g.co/maps/4a5cu)
Egerton Park Melton Mowbray (http://g.co/maps/ruq3e)
Market Harborough Town Centre

Fuel: Fairly full tank on arrival at Long Itchington please, there is a petrol station about a mile South of the start point (http://g.co/maps/tpvqh).

The rideout is 111 miles, anyone who can't manage that there will be fuel at Ducati Uppingham and at Melton Mowbray stops.

Lunch: Play it by ear, Ducati Uppingham sometimes has a burger van, if not there's a petrol station that does sandwiches, but if people are not hungry yet after a big breakfast at the Long Itch, then we can wait until Melton Mowbray, where there is a cafe/shack type thing and another petrol station.

Attendees, please post up your name in usual drill

Any volunteers for lead or TEC welcome. I'm happy to do either, but I haven't been on the Daytona since November, so I won't be on the pace that some of the attendees might like at the front. Let's see who is coming...

Let's hope this Easter ride doesn't involve your trumpet ( or anyone else's for that matter) and a suicidal recovery driver this time :)

I did give up for ages Phil.
Not just road but dirt too, there were other things going on and to be honest, the spark for riding wasnt there much.
Last real ride I did was with you guys and frankengixer last year and my heart wasn't really into it then.

Guys, I'm taking a friend to do his CBT this Monday in Billing. Would you mind him coming on the ride out on a 125 or will this drag you all behind too much?

-Ralph-
23-03-12, 01:19 AM
Anybody is welcome with any bike, 125's are no problem.

I think to invite him along on this occasion though would be putting him at risk. He will have done a days CBT training then be booted out onto the road to learn for himself. To then ride in a group of 10 more powerful bikes where a marker system keeps putting the fastest riders behind him, to be expected to follow and possibly participate in that marker system, he may ride faster than he's comfortable with as he feels under pressure to keep up, and from Northampton, to Long Itchington, round the rideout and back to Northampton will be knocking on 200 miles, which is a hell of a lot for your 5th day.

Specialone
23-03-12, 08:25 AM
I agree, IMO too much for a very new rider.

Btw Col, will be 12 days not 5.

Btw Col, will be 12 days not 5.

Oh, yeah, sorry I was thinking Monday 2nd was his CBT.

There's also some pretty challenging roads on the route with corners like this http://g.co/maps/wfycs. Just riding the bike he's got enough to think about for the first couple of weeks, he doesn't need to extra pressure a rideout like this would put on him. If it was an AR or something like that which is very structured and organised, dedicated markers, etc, he'd probably be OK, but this is more like a group of mates going for a ride than a structured rideout.

Tell him good luck for the CBT though Gaz, and if he want's go out for a run we can take him out somewhere local the following weekend?

F4LL3N
23-03-12, 09:18 AM
Sounds good I'll mention it to him. I'm going to take him out as much as I can to be honest once he's done it but I see what you're saying.

Will keep the occasional eye on this thread via tapatalk.

Anyone who wants to get a decent pace and has a sat nav or knows the route want to lead this rideout? If not I'll lead and I'll take a moderately quick pace, but a pace that would not normally be quick enough for the likes of Mr Speirs or Binky. If anyone wants to go at that pace they need to lead please.

Ali, first refusal on TEC? No pressure though someone else will if you don't fancy it.

We'll run second man drop off as we decided on Saturday we weren't going to bother and everyone just fell in the old habit of doing it anyway.

Fallen, don't worry about your rear brakes, we'll sort them on the 7th as arranged.

Anything important changes (can't think what would) can someone please text me?

See you all at Long Itch at 9:30 on Saturday 7th for breakfast, or any time before 10:30 if you are not.

Happy Easter everyone, take care & ride safe!

Sounds good mate, will have to check it out sometime :)

Also, back on topic - I've never been on a group ride out before, so if someone wants to explain the riding systems and what not to me I will be most grateful

Specialone
28-03-12, 08:45 AM
It's easy mate.

The leader will lead the whole ride, at a turn, junction etc he will point at the junction, rider directly behind him will stop and mark that junction until the TEC (tail end charlie) comes past.

Do not, under any circumstance, leave that junction until the TEC has come past unless you're told otherwise, this is how we lose people.

It's straight on unless it's marked at islands etc

We generally ride in staggered formation, this gives you double the stopping distance so you don't rear end the rider in front of you.

Don't ride too close to the guy in front either cos if he gets a corner wrong you won't have time to react.
