Put the chin thing in the bottom, its completely unusable without it and should never been put on the market. Mine whistles and howl horribly without it, but it does look nice. Can't use it with a foggy now either as it pretty much lets no air in with the chin thingy in, so it steams up.
I can't believe you think it's noisy, when I swapped from my awful old helmet to a Qwest I could barely hear the engine. Do you keep the chin curtain on? might make a bit of a difference

You can buy a whisper kit as mentioned above, which has a chin guard (mesh) as well as a soft 'curtain' that clips in around the base of the helmet.
It's essentially a soft, cushioned piece of material around 2 inches wide.

Also check that the visor is sealing against the seal all round. Someone else had this issue, and after discussion it turned out it wasn't quite sealing. The side pods where the visor fits have spring loaded slider jobbies in them and these are adjustable.
Also check the lever on the left side isn't set to "city" position (or whatever they call it), where it cracks the visor open a touch. I'd certainly rate the Qwest as one of the quieter helmets around.
I've got XR1100 and is by far the nosest lids I've ever owned. The visor needs to be adjusted the wind noise getting under chin bit is a joke. Yes you can get the wind skirt but you end up with misted up visor.
Easy answer is get a Shark Race R. Fantastic lid at the moment I cant find any real faults on it. Apart from the dark visor is £75

I had an XR1000 before the qwest and the qwest is noisier without the chin curtain! I'm going to try an Arai next.

I've got an XR1000, with curtain, chin guard and earplugs...it's still very noisy!
Anyway...if you're after a chin guard I came across this =>
