View Full Version : Weight of ancillaries?

Hi all,

I am still working on my SV650 kart project, I am getting to the stage of working out the balance of the kart with the engine being on 1 side and myself in the middle there will be an inbalance, I can shift the seat over to offset this, however I am thinking about partly offsetting the engine weight on the right with the ancillaries on the left ie:

Battery
Radiator/coolent system
Fuel tank
Wiring

I am just wondering how much the items usually weigh so I can work out the balance of the kart, usually the fuel tank on the kart is under the steering wheel, but I might move it over so that it can offset the weight slightly but as I physically don't have the parts I was just wondering how much they weigh usually

Just a ballpark

Battery - Yuasa YTZ-10S = 3.2kg
Coolant - total capacity will be maybe 3Lt, say half in engine half in rad&hoses, density isn't far off 1kg/Lt, rad doesn't weigh much empty, 1 or 2kg.
Fuel - density about 0.75kg/Lt, fuel tank not a huge mass empty (depends what you're using, but maybe around 5kg max). Unless you're doing endurance work you'll only be carrying a few Lts I'd guess.
Wiring - if you're only running the essentials (ignition etc) it'll be trivial, 1 or 2kg tops.

The driver will be the most useful mass to move, 70+kg

Cool, thanks for clearing that up, ive never had a bike before so im never too sure about how much certain parts weigh like the battery (used to larger car batteries lol)
