Guys

How do I get shot of a mental block I have about a certain corner every time I ride round it I EFF it up.

This weekend after I dropped everyone off at the end of Aprils Abuse I had a moment of target fixation on it. I knew I was doing it and stopped myself before I went round it. But I EFF this corner up every time I ride it and it doesn't matter which direction. Its not even a difficult corner but.........

Short of doing an 80 mile round trip to spend the day going round one poxy corner how can I get rid this affliction.

Tips and abuse are welcome, cause i can see more abuse than tips coming...

thanks

Dean

stop looking at the bleedin chevrons then :-) i actually think they are to blame as the eye can't decide which way the bend is going do to there being to many at different heights and angles.

Can't see the rpoblem with the corner myself....just look at where you want to be, the bike will follow, and don't be distratced by those stupid chevrons...

+1 on Bib's.
All them chevrons and a slight downhill to the right after a long straight (mess's with your judgement of speed) mess with you!
Cause you to think you should be going faster after you have gone round, you have that feeling of eff'ing it up.
I have a similiar corner near GAC and everytime I come to it I freeze up, go round it and then think, "could have gone faster/smoother". I have decided a probably can't, accept it and get on with the next bend.
It is my brain telling me "Don't do it, you will crash into those trees!" So thank you brain for keeping me safe.

The bend on your map is not a good bend, lots of chevrons and with no safe escape, if you do get it wrong! thats a bloody big tree there.
Go slow and smooth and enjoy the next bend! :smt040

Oh, and your a big poof, get on with it! LOL

(ps. will get back to you tonite on dates)

i'm surprised your getting fixation as you normally have your eye's closed.

Doesn't look that bad of a corner, but there is plenty there that warrants extra attention, so I can see why you would have issues with it. It seems from following A to B that you are taking it as a right hander so...

First, I can see that it is difficult to stay too far left in your lane for purposes of observation as there have been so many tarmac repairs and it is not a nice surface, so first off, I would say knock off plenty of speed to allow for the fact that you can't get the road positioning you want safely.

Second, there is no kerb on the bend so there is an increased chance of debris on the road, again meaning you can't take the best line and stay out long enough to see your exit the way you would normally like to.

Third, the actual road surface mid bend does not look that great and you can see a few oil dumps, so again, need to knock off speed as you know that traction won't be the best on this corner.

As for the chevrons and angle of the bend...seen much worse, but they can make you fixate on them quite easily.

To be honest, I would forget about trying to stop target fixation on this bend. You know it, you know it is not great in terms of surface or visibility and you know that there are oil dumps on it from time to time, so this is not a bend I would be trying to improve on.

There is one bend local to me that I really wanted to get better around last year and in the end I thought to myself, "it is one bend, I could do it faster if I wanted to, but with the surface and adverse camber it is pointless".

Do yourself a favour and just take this bend slow and easy until you can properly see the exit and are clear of any bad surface :-)

...just take this bend slow and easy...

I don't think Dean will understand this. ;)

The corner before it is tighter, but the chevrons are straighter and you can see through the corner so its not a problem. That corner makes my eyes go :smt119

Anyway you're asking us for riding advice? If you're struggling, we're all f***ed!

You going to have to block out all the distractions
Look were your going to have the best line.
If you can stop and "Walk the corner ".

I'm pretty sure the chevrons aren't there anymore. All I remember is fence and looking at the buildings in the field behind it as I almost locked the front up...

Then decided that it might be better to look down the road and turn in.

Thing is I've f*cked that corner up going the other way a couple of times too.
Just dunnoe whats going on with such a simple corner...

you know what I think I'm gonna have to take the trip down there just to check the place out.

Hmmm... Do you have any mates that take the corner with ease? Maybe you could:

a) Follow them and try to cut the same lines as them

b) Pop on the back of their bike, and 'feel' it (the ride, I mean!)

Either or both of those should help?

have you tried 'trail breaking' it? it looks like one of those corners where you have to tip in at the very last minuet then sit up straight away.

as said, if your stuffing it up then were all dooomed.

+1. Having vainly tried to keep Dean in sight before I've realised I have a mental block for almost all the corners and most of the straights. :D

I'd probably have to get off and push it round.

Ahhhh... in this case then, could 'mental block' be translated as 'respect for his life' ???!

Its a short corner ... looks worse than it is (especially if overgrown). If you're about to lock up you're braking too late or going to fast. My suggestion is knock it down a gear, brake earlier and let the engine do the work to get around the corner.

In my experience, going in with too low a gear (less engine braking) sometimes makes me feel like I'm going too fast and need to brake harder. Maybe feeling the traction will help with this sensation and help you set up for the corner.

Dont try this before your nuptials!
After the previous corner, which presumably you have no problem with, don't change gear or brake.
This leaves you with only throttle to think about & even that looks as if it could stay the same.
You know my pathetic bikeability, so dont take me too seriously - sometimes lateral thinking works.
