View Full Version : SRAD fork internals in Pointy forks?
Iv'e done a search and read quite a bit about fork swaps but have not found an answer to my question which is simply can i fit srad 600 rwu fork internals into my K3 lowers? Any advice appreciated ;).

Yes you can do it, no you can't "simply" do it.
Cheers mate....enlighten me please as to why not simply? Is it a big job? Iv'e stripped the forks and done the seals but the left one just keeps ripping the new seal due to pitting in the fork travel area. Thought about a new stanchion but i would rather replace with better internals.

Well that bit isn't really "internal" for a start ;)
And the SRAD ones are a good few mm fatter than the SV ones!
Just use entire SRAD front end :)
When i did the seals i gave them a full internal and took everything out cleaned it all and put them back together with fresh oil. If i fit the srad front end do i basically need everything off the srad...wheel,mudguard,top/bottom yokes, calipers and clip-ons? and what about the speedo pick-up does that have to be done from the back wheel?

Yes everything. Think you can use VTR clipons or custom ones if you want higher.
Would turn out an expensive mod then....probably worth it though. Thanks for your advice YC.

Sell your existing stuff and it's not too bad
How about putting in zzr600e internals? Is it just a case of taking everything out of the forks and putting it in the sv lowers or does anything need to be machined or cut down?

Is this a game of name random bike front ends and see if YC is enough of a sad tw*t to know how to frankenstein them into an SV? :-P (No smarmy comments please, I have long since resigned myself to the answer to this question...)
Not sure about ZZR600E, thought they had 43mm fork.
Nah mate but after doing yet more searches a couple of old posts have said that cbr600 f3 fork internals fit as do zzr600e forks....both 41mm. Just wondered if you or anyone else had done this mod and if it was straightforward or complicated. Would love to do the GSXR swap but not sure if i like the bike enough for it to be a keeper yet! Love the style and sound but the handling with a busted fork seal and soggy forks is damn near to being the worst handling bike i have ever owned. Thanks for you're help and sorry for being a pain!!

I've never done it with ZZR ones. Most of the cartridges I've done are ones with tops left standard so they're minitwin legal.
I had some ZZR ones, picked them up, went "yuck, kayaba" and didn't bother...
The CBR swap is dead easy. You ideally need some complete forks as donor.
Cheers mate...did'nt know they were kayaba. Will look for some f3 ones then.

OT: I love this post.
It's somewhat reminiscent of responses I have made to random questions I couldn't possibly answer.

what do people have against KYBs? i'm slowly doing a cartridge fork mod.
will be using zzr stanchions and at lesat the cartridge bodies. also have some
f3 cartridges, so i could use them with the zzr damping rods, but what is it
that makes them so much better?

I prefer pistons with more port area, and there was also something about bleed design, maybe needle taper. Not sure it's been a while...

hmm..
i've read about the needles somewhere. something about them being stepped rather than a smooth
taper.
as for the valves, the showa hmas as found on the f3 has 4*1,8 mm ports on the shim stack side and
4*2,8 mm on the check valve side. the kyb from zzr-e is 3*2,8 on shim stack side - so that's more port
area, or am i misunderstanding the term? on the check valve side the kybs have rectangularish high-flow ports.
