or I could use my brain and acknowledge that there's some weekends free in august.. Doylem
Not wishing to come over all dull and sensible or anything but .......
Given this is likely to be the first bike camping trip for many of the attendees and you are looking at a weekend in August when the kids are off (mad traffic/ crowded sites) Can I suggest you set your sights a little closer to home.
That's the last week of the school hols so everyone who's packed kids off to Granny's for the summer will be bringing them back as well as everyone just coming back from a week / weekend away in the west country. So the roads will be rammed with cars trying to stop kids from killing each other and not looking out for blokes on bikes.
Bodmin is 4+ hours ride away if you just go down the A303. If you go a more interesting route it's a full days ride down. Then you set up camp, drink too much, have a bad nights sleep, repeat then try to ride back with a tent that's now twice as big as it was on the way down.
I'd recommend picking somewhere a bit closer to home and/or slipping it a week or two until the kids have gone back to school. If you stay in Somerset/Devon/Dorset you can still do some cracking roads without the need for a 200+ mile slog to get there and back. The roads around Devizes are amazing and much quieter than anything in Cornwall.
That said, Cornwall has fantastic beaches and surf-totty on the north coast if you go far enough west.
I usually use < this website (http://www.ukcampsite.co.uk/sites/results.asp?county=Somerset&tents=on&showers=on&toilets=on) > when looking for sites.
As ever, please feel free to disregard anything I say as I'm sure if Cornwall works out you'll have a great time and will be fending off the bikini clad girlies until your resolve gives out.

weekends that are definite no go for me are 4th august, 1st september, 29th september.
Easiest to do is the week after, 11th august but any of the others could work.

TBH i wouldnt plan it rond me because the way work is at the mo I could wind up having to cancel at any point, we're crazy busy and they're forcing compulsory overtime for the next 12 weeks.

As boring as dad is, I think he is right. Why don't be push the date back to when the kids are back at school. The only thing worse than getting savagely mauled by the Beast of Bodmin while camping is the pack of kids shouting and screaming everywhere you go.
Also, a place where we can put the bikes next to the tents would be good!
After may be a bit better for me also as we are quieter then, and its easier to get time off. Mark, you coming to show us all these amazing roads you know of?
I think by the way they have agreed to have 10 bikers with a tent each on their site, would say that they have plenty of space. Si, it shows vehicles next to their pitches on the site i can't see why you wouldn't be allowed to park next to your tent.
The date is pretty good for weather and certain places being open for tourism. The only touristy place i'd be planning to go to is Lands End, the rest of it i have no idea about.

Getting camping weekends away is a bit tricky for me as it usually involves taking the kids which can be a bit hard on the bike. Will look into leading an extended trip out west but will be outside of main school holidays and not as far as Cornwall.
Problem is even if you are avoiding some of the tourist spots you still share the roads with those that are visiting them and the roads down there are not much fun when busy even on a bike. My Dad lives just East of Bodmin and we don't even try to see him between July and September for that very reason.
Post in the southwest surfers section to see if they have any recommended routes during peak season as there may still be opportunities for progress to be made that I've not found.
*** Can all those interested in going please put your name down in the attendance thread***
As in the information thread, we need to palce a deposit to secure a booking of pitches, so i need to know who are coming on this trip

Ok Scotty is not coming now, his bike failed it's mot in catastrophic fashion he reckons no more riding for him till spring, don't know what the problem is but they wouldn't let him ride it home so must be pretty bad?
Any update on timing etc mr job sir?
bugger! yes indeed there is see below: (info thread will be updated when DD unlocks it)
All routes are a rough idea. They may change depending on time, weather and people.
Friday route down:
http://i515.photobucket.com/albums/t358/focus550/route1.jpg
Saturday ride out:
http://i515.photobucket.com/albums/t358/focus550/Saturday.jpg
On Saturday, feel free to go to places and touristy things on route. The route can be as long/short as you want and where you want to go to. Again, weather may affect this!!!
Sunday ride home is what you want, can be similar roads as used on the Friday. Or the alternate Friday route-for instance if we don't come through Dartmoor national park on Friday, we can go through it on the way back
Grant; We'll arrange a meeting place near Christchurch or Blandford Forum. You probably know where is best to meet and a good lcoation. A petrol station/service centre on a main road-give me a post code/address and we'll meet you there.
We'll swap contact info next week, as well as getting your bike ready for the trip!

Good luck chaps, I did a bike tour (on a Honda CB250 Super Dream!) around Bodmin Moor and Cornwall back in 1995, you will have an awesome time, just watch out for the beast. That thing has left claws, embedded in field gates, that when pulled out are over three inches long! Some say that it is a Panther that someone tried to keep as a pet until it got too dangerous, while others say that it was the offspring of a crazy local who got too friendly with the farm stock! :D
Don't forget Weston Super Mare Bike Night is happening every Thursday night through out the summer too, so why not drop in as you fly past?
