View Full Version : HID Lighting Upgrade
Has anyone fitted an HID Bi-Xenon lighting kit to a "curvey"? Fed up listening to "hear-say" horror stories!! First hand experience/knowledge feedback would be much appreciated.:study:

H4 kit.
Cheap e bay ones are a lottery
Ps select 4600k as its a better real world light same as oe hid s are.
Got one fitted to my Gixxer!
IMO...Brilliant bit of kit if for nothing else making you more visible! If you have reflector lenses it has been suggested that you get H-R/RM bulbs! As NTECUK said no point going over 6000k as you loose the the brightness!
Good luck

I have one but alot of people flash at night thinking i have full beams lol
Set it lower line on a beam setter .
I've had the cheap ebay ones fitted for a couple of years now. I agree with NTEC I initially went for 6000k but found the light poor (too cold) for unlit lanes have now changed to 4300k which I find perfect for what I want. They are much better than halogens giving a wider brighter spread of light, you will need to adjust the beam height as it will differ from when halogens are fitted, I used the masking tape on a wall method and get no problems with oncoming vehicles being blinded. Seems to sail through the MOT..... so far!!!!
Thanks peoples, PITA to fit? whole front end strip I suppose?
Not much more than n changing a normal bulb ..
If your not too stiff and can work in tight spaces your not have to take much off.
The ballast needs a 12v supply and ground.keep it out of the rain but get air around it.
got the cheep ones off ebay 2x50w bi-xenon 5000k and they are the doggyzz doooodddaazzz. angled down a bit as i was getting a few flashes (but not that many) but now i get none. its nice having daylight in front of the bike :-)
Got a link biobo pls?

was that long ago m8. think i still have the box in the lockup though. will check next time i'm down.
will say one thing though.. kits are only as good as they are fitted. fit it wrong and it will go wrong.

Probably me being dumb but I'm assuming IF I were to buy the kit in post#2 I would need to buy 2 of them, one for each side?
or you can get this

As being a car one it has 2 bulbs

Ahhhh don't tempt me trying to save up for an exhaust and a new chain!!
H4 4300K Bi-Zenon HID kit, eBay auction (£28 inc p&p) fitted yesterday. First class (even though I say so myself!) job - should have done it ages ago - daytime riding, in the dark!

It just says this is for an SV650s, will it fit a 2007 pointy S?
What bulbs do you have in a pointy ?
H4 12v...55w I think. Just wondered if the fit would be the same for the kit
Yes my old curvey s H 4 kit would fit yours.(now in sisters car)
Its the same kit I have in my car.:)
Great! Going to get these bought on pay day and get them fitted before commuting both ways in the dark starts.(that sounds a bit bi-sexual)

I think I'm gonna have a punt on some HID's as I've put some bright LED sidelights in recently and they're nearly as bright as the main headlights and look a bit daft!
Do these look any good, seem to be the right spec. for the SV and are the right colour I'm after, don't want them to be too blue?

6000k is best . A tint of blue . But good . For £30 it wont last long , u pay for what u get with hid kits . Pay more and be better kit
dont get 6000k get 4300k or 5000k. your less likely to get pulled using WHITE light and the white also gives more light.

Yeah TBH thats what I thought, I think the 4300k is what I'm looking at. Did you say your HID's where cheap and cheerful ones of eBay? Still going strong or any problems? I think the ones in my link above are worth a try and at that price not the end of the world if they play up.
yup cheep 50w ones from china. they are all made in the same factory's and its how YOU wire them up that makes them reliable. thing with HID is the inrush of power when starting. this needs GOOD connectors and proper wiring to do it's job, not scotch lock and insulating tape.
do it properly, do it once.

Cheers.
i have the 55w (50w if truth be told) and i have also had the 35w ones. not that much difference TBH and the 35w ones are good.
you will HAVE to get them set up properly once you have installed them or your just going to end up like most chavvy cars and blind people. best to aim them that little lower than norm to be on the safe side. once fitted you will not want to go back to standard bulbs :-)
Just remember that unless you have a friendly MOT inspector, you will need to change back to normal bulbs at MOT time.

You need the correct beam pattern and unless you buy the really expensive sets then your not going to get that

Then put your hand in your pocket and get the right gear to make ridding safer for you and others.
It's going to be cheaper than falling off .

difficulty in making Hid harnesses is the fact i need to buy HID kits which i have looked into so might be on the cards.
if someone wants to send me theirs to get altered then that's no problem.

I might send everything to you to get working properly in the near future
You thinking of a modded car kit or the whole 9 yards projector set up?

LOL yeah, a nice paraphrase of the MOT regulations. Like all things its down the the individual inspector. Anyone worth thier salt in the motortrade is going to know that a HID kit is fitted as they power up differently etc and therefore above the 2K lumens limit. There are no incandescent bulb on the market for legal road use tha emits that level of light.
Anyway, the SV light unit is sh** for HID as it just checks light all over the place. I ended up removing mine for this reason. To glary and the main beam pattern is/was awaful. Dipped is amazing though.

Sent from my iPad using TapatalkWrong. The beam pattern is created but the headlight, not the bulb and the SV unit is below average in that department. They do however, work in the Projector lamps very well due to their design, but the above still stands in MOT regualtions.
I have a complete twin 35w kit that used to be fitted to my SV for sale. Make me an offer.

Its good to have the official ruling on it from the Mot enforces.
If you have a good beam pattern then your a pass .
Cut and dry.
Same goes for class 4 too.
But if you put one in that glares . Don't be surprised when someone blinds you with there main beam.
Just be sensible
