Just the biking community willing to lend a hand. I remember a few months back, somebody got his classic kwak Z back via sharing on Facebook.
Unfortunately its not always a nice ending, but at least people are willing to try make it so.

It might not be much but it's a start keep faith man!
My god, I saw this thread and something about the reg seemed familiar, I have my sv and I also have a rather nice transit van that due to its rarity is a bit of a target from our travelling friends, due to its rarity I take a lot of notice of other transits and I definitely remember seeing this reg somewhere and I travel in Stockport A LOT, I will keep my eyes open for this van and I will also let all my fellow transit owners in the area know so they can keep an eye out too.
Oh and it's not my van mines a mark 7.

Another thing too right, say one of you saw this van driving about, what would you actually do? Say you recognise the number plate and think to yourself "hey, they stole Chris' SV" would you actually follow it or just report it when you get home?
I think after all that has happened to me, if someone else had their bike stolen I would definitely follow that van and do my best to help them, after everything everyone has done for me. I tell you it's a real eye opener this

If i had the time yes would try and make time as i hate theft....if not a phone call to the police or crimestopers.
Any result from the address enquiry yet OP?

Phone the police, tell them I'm following a suspected drink driver and give them details of our journey until one of the pro's takes over. If I'm on the bike (which is more likely) then the best I can do is pull over and phone the police, I'm not exposing my own bike to a bunch of bike thieves.
ChrisCurvyS
30-11-12, 10:09 AM
If you were on the bike and so couldn't call the police, ideally you'd follow the van till it parked up somewhere and then make the call.
Only trouble is a bike's very noticeable so they may clock you following them - especially if they're taking lots of turns - and reverse into you at the first opportunity.
Dipper had a thread on cheap trackers.
Maybe a thought? though too late in this case.
Keep safe remember all the threads on people being chased .

I have a tracker, a good one too but stupidlt it wasn't on my bike because I had a bad battery and it kept draining, iv just spoke to the police, they have been doing some work on it today, looking at cctv and following the van on cctv, they have also been round the to registration of the van holders address but they never told me anything about that...I'm starting o think this was a robbed to order theft. I also gave them the number sp gave me, they said it doesn't sound like a normal crime number but they will have a look

Perhaps but why would he do it and then keep it up for so long, when there's much funnier pranks to pull? He put in quite a bit of detail, didn't contradict himself and you'd think he'd go for something more obvious, eg "I'm following the van now! Call the cops!!!"
I know he'd only signed up to post on the thread but that could be because he only found it after googling the reg of the van that he'd been suspicious of. Just a thought.

Looks right to me, incident 795 recorded 28112012.
Maybe phone them direct instead of your local force e.g. look up South Yorks on 118118 (http://www.118.com/search?what=police&where=sheffield).
I presume phoning 101 would get you through to your local force but the number listed on the above search should get you through to them.

The police have just been in touch, they say they have been round to that guys house who supposedly owns the transit, it's not him, as they say, so they are trying different combinations of number plate but I think they must have used fake plates. Why on earth can anyone just go and buy a number plate, is our country thick or what! Looks like I'm claiming off my insurance, I was anyway but before there was hope, now this is getting silly

Aye "show" plates cost little over £10 for bikes and require nothing other than your eBay account to buy them.
Look little/no difference to normal ones but are technically illegal.
Tbh the method of knocking the plates up is so simple even if it wasn't so easy for Jo public to do the criminals wouldn't have any issues setting up to do it themselves
The reg was correct I wrote it down it actually looked a newer model than a 04 plate looked unmarked with no visual wear and tear that you old expect from a 8 year old van
Yes life can be poo .
But with all the cuts with reductions in man power ,the human rights acts they can only go so far .
It's up to all of us to make getting your bike difficult .Chains ground anchors they make the time to remove it longer.
Mark as much as we can . Then if the parts turn up they can trace the gits who deal in stolen parts .
Ok its not going to get this bike back .But might help someone else go and get a chain /lock etc

It's the correct model for that year looking at the shape of it but they did make those up until 06 IIRC

Proper shops with number plate machines are licensed and audited. I have a set of documents required before I can issue a plate. Internet sellers and market traders don't have this procedure.

I dont think the bobbies really bother about where you get you plate made, else there would not be so many munged up plates trying to spell an obscure word that makes the owner look a complete ****.

Right, I'm at my wits end now, a police officer came...to my work today to view a better copy of the CCTV. He said he could not make out a clear registration on the vehicle so he just said the case is closed, end of, shazam, it's over....WHAT THE ****, THE POLICE ARE ****! What the hell did they do in the old days! When there was no CCTV eh! Do they know how this feels! I'm making a call to the police station as we speak to make a complaint. I want something done about this. This is appalling! To say the least

Although I'd be careful about the reg as if it's a cloned plate of someone local you might get somebody innocent into bother.
Yes don't get hung up on the reg,Today I had to fit a pair of plates to a car that had been stolen.
They didn't inform the police .I did point out if they got a Demand for petrol drive-aways etc they might be on a sticky wicket
Scum, will keep an eye out.

God that's frustrating! Wait so long for some action only to be told their washing their hands of it.
Another terrific reason our insurance is so high companies must be paying out £100k a day if the stats on stollen bikes are accurate.
Not that I think you are doing but don't be narrow minded by blaming the officers dealing with it. The complaint should be about the systems in place or lack there of.
It's a sad reality of what state our previous gov's greed put the country into. I'm not saying the torys are aby better but these cuts are all that's keeping GB afloat.
The ****ty end of the cuts is more obvious when it happens on your doorstep though. In your case pal these *******s have taken advantage of the weakness in the current system, been robbed is never a nice feeling. I only had a car stereo nicked so it doesn't even come close to having my bike taken but I do remember the hatred I had for those who did it. Excess fees were the same as the stereo so it was gone for good, no replacement. Look on the bright side, you might get top dollar for the bike in the end but fark it if its not still sickening.
Galviniser
04-12-12, 06:45 AM
You are right, it is sickening, this year has been so **** for me, been knocked off my bike twice this year, second time I broke my arm, both non fault, if I had the money from the second accident it might have paid my way now, and it wouldn't be as bad but like everyone else nower days, I have no money and have to start the long process of saving. The insurance company have been in touch, they want everything from the bike, all the keys, receipts, documents the lot, I was hoping to keep a key in memory of the SV, hoping that one day I will find it haha, but no, they want it.
Another thing, I got a call last night from the chief inspector, apologising on behalf of the police for the actions taken when my bike got stolen, there was clearly not enough done and not enough officers around, doesn't that say something....hire more police, stop cutting back. Spend taxes on something useful, I ended up writing to some guy really high up, I forget now, hopefully it will get seen and something will be done, I'm gonna give them another ring today, see if anything has actually been dome about my bike and my complaint now, if they are still going to give up that easily and not look for my bike then I will keep making complaints to the police unless something is done, I hate to be a pest but if that's the way they want it, I'm just sick of this now, they don't care about my bike, they don't wanna know do they, it's just one big joke

Good stuff, you've proved to be enough of a PITA to them they've had no choice but to do what you'd have expected from them initially its just a shame they're doing it so far down the line. I imagine like anything which goes missing its a case of the longer its gone the less likely it is to get it back as you lost it.
I don't think anyone asked early on but thinking back to when Si had his zxr nicked the other month. Did you do a walk around check of the area, all back streets etc etc?
Its well known on the drz forum for the bikes to be nicked, relocated for a brief time and then collected a few days later. The idea been that with trackers now been fitted the thieves are stashing the bikes (they do the same with cars) basically to see if someone comes to fetch it.
If you find it on a street its zero incriminating for them and they've lost nothing they never had.

Check any white transit quickly.
I think tbh that trackers are the only way to secure your bike these days as there is away round any of the others. Anyone know a good tracker?

I was more thinking a service where if a bike is nicked and left local for the theives to check it isn't tracked, pack the underside of the tank with 20lbs of something energetic and blast them into pate when they come to collect :)

A company I've dealt with do some fancy business apparently, the dye in some dye bombs has some uniquely "chopped up" plant DNA in it meaning if you set one off and get nicked they can track the exact crime committed.
