just had accident coming home.

A lady walked out on me while I was doing 30mph, I hit her and hurt her. Feeling pretty sympathetic for her. Despite her not looking for me as she crossed the road.

bike is fine and so am I as it was a 30mph accident. I should feel angry because she didn't look for me as pedestrians often do. It happen right AFTER a controlled set of traffic lights! which were green. none the less she was past all the railing's and zigzag lines.

dark outside wearing dark clothing, i have a feeling i might of been able to stop if i had seen her sooner.

advice on what to do? spoken to police they done their part, gona contact insurance.

witness's made their accounts too.

That's unfortunate!

However you know you did nothing wrong and know that what she did was wrong so don't dwell on it.

She will probably look next time..

Only thing i am worried about is that people say i was going 'too fast' and being that i have a noisey exhaust it can sound like i am going faster then i am. and I know i was doing 30mph because the bike laid on the floor with little damage and i am fine to despite wearing little protection. Witness's given their statements which i will never know about.

Gutted.
The police will notice those elements and work out you weren't going too fast. Any statement from a witness (from when I had my off) about speed will be taken with a pinch of salt if she wasn't injured badly and you and your bike are ok.
Will your bike need much attention?

So she didn't hear you either? Was she wearing headphones? Using her phone?

Dopey bint. Careful what you say, make sure anything you say portrays you as a complete saint and her diving out of good cover in perfect camo right into your front wheel.

she was camouflaged! black jacket dark trousers. Didn't even see her face because she wasnt looking at me at any point.

So many people do this when I'm cycling. Less when I'm on the bike with an engine. It's Darwinism and I'm sorry you and the bike paid the price. Of course I feel sorry for her but she can be thankful you weren't a coach.

Were you riding with a tinted visor and was this noted by the police?
Other than that if your posts are accurate Im sure you'll be fine. Lesson learned on her part I would assume, just a shame peds dont have insurance.

I've only been cycling 2 days and I'm starting to think all those cyclist who pi55 an moan about people walking out, vehicles turning etc have a point. Leaving Leeds is a nightmare for folk blindly walking around (earphones in or on the phone 90% of the time) what ever there distraction is it certainly makes them feel invincible in front of cyclists.

You'd get the damaged you described if you'd knocked it off the stand so I assume you skimmed off a few mph of that 30 before the impact. Have you got stock levers? if you have I've a pair I can send you for £10 unless you meant the foot shifter and not the finger lever, in which case I dont have a shifter.

levelers are fine although the brake leveler been bent since i bought it so i got used to it. Probably need new nose cone or something. I'm less concerned about the bike and more about my NCB as i want to put my other bike on the road at some point.

If I loss my NCB because of this idiot not going to be a happy bunny. life just isn't fair!!!

ironically almost had accident in my car on way home too because driver on the A3 nipped infront of me before the camera and slammed on his brakes and i almost rear ended him. people are just headaches

At least you're ok, hope she will be too.

Relocate to Milton Keynes! Thanks to our roundabouts, big roads and cycle paths day dreaming street walkers are no issue.

Surely if she caused the accident you can claim damages from her? Your insurance company, if doing its job right, will take her to court if needed. Or you can appoint your own solicitor.

Losses like NCB and repairs can all be claimed as she has caused you to suffer this loss. You're the victim here and just because pedestrians have no insurance like vehicles does not mean you cannot get recompense.

I agree with Sir Trev. If she was at fault through her own negligence then she should be liable for the damage to your bike. Definitely seek legal advice.

Don't many home insurance policies include public liability cover? There's a chance if she has home/contents insurance you may be able to claim on that......

thanks thats reassuring of you. But my priority at the moment is to make sure she is okay.

Then make sure my case puts across properly and it is seen to be her fault thus keeping my NCB. I am not so bothered about damage to bike as it shouldn't cost much to fix.

Bad luck mate - can't have been nice. Good attitude though the way you've not been slagging her off-we all make mistakes I suppose.
So what exactly were her injuries? And what exactly happened in the crash-did you lose the front end trying to stop and then the bike hit her while sliding or were you on board during the impact and then fell off?

pretty much hit her square on if not maybe slightly off to the right. the bike landed 1 metre away from where she lay so speed of impact must have been around 20mph as i did grab front brake in the breif 3 steps she took.

had a closer look at the bike and maybe it more then just a nose cone damage the lights been pushed back alot. Speaking to my insurance company i stressed the fact I want to fit my case as I am completely sick of people not looking for me when crossing roads and turning etc. Bike probably off the road for a bit.

going to find it hard to get back on if i am honest pedestrians really scare me now. I can feel it when i drove to work. Luckily its all motorway to work. Looks like might hang the leathers up for a bit. tired of it all.

Never had an off yet but from what they say the best remedy is to get back in the saddle asap?

People walk out in front of anything.. It's crap but giving up what you love is silly, up to you really.

Crap happens, you can't always predict what's going to happen. Main thing is that you are ok, as is the pedestrian.
In the most non patronising way possible, have you had any extra training since you passed your test?
I had a 50mph low side, then got a new bike a month or so later. i was a bit nervous on it as my confidence was shaken. I then did a BikeSafe course. It helped me regain my confidence, evaluate the way i ride in a different way and also employ new riding techniques. I am a different rider for it and much happier riding!

What i have learnt from my accident is that everyone who doesn't ride a motorcycle will think you were going too fast. Everyone.
Also, get you'r phone out and take loads of pictures if you are able, if not ask one of the "spectators" to take some and give them your email address. A couple of pictures can tell the story better than a load of statements from idiots.
I'm really tempted to rig my bike up with a few cameras to capture the stupidity of the pondlife out there.

Do it! i try to have my camera on as much as possible now, and even from todays riding I could show your 5/6 people pulling out on me! No decent footage gets deleted immediately on the camera to free up space.
