I started the dedicated thread to make it easier for people to know who/what/where/when. A list of names and numbers doesn't dictate the riding order
Hehe, we'll as Tim really wants to be first, I reckon he should lead the ride!

All went to **** at the end. We had a chain snap, so we left him. Then Simon disappeared and Job and Adam just stopped in the middle of a roundabout. The rest if the ride was awesome though.

Ah, that would be my chain...found it down the road in surprisingly good nick. Very little wear on it but alas the split link waved farewell.
Good thing I only live down the road from where it happened and have family with a horse trailer. :D
Cheers for a good day today and massive thanks to Tony for the icecream.
Now all we need is for fallout to post up the photo...

Good ride out today, TonyK thanks for planning/leading and ice cream!
Thy was a good day! But now I am dead. Massive thanks to you guys for waiting and the ice cream :)
Any dodgy overtakes or reckless riding? Near death experiences?
Can someone post the ice cream picture? ;)
Cheers all, brill day. Not sure what happened at loomies on the way back, i followed DJ to basingstoke but got left in his smoke and with nobody else there, didnt see anyone again til j11 where tony peeled off towards slough. Did you stop at loomies? Hmm one aborted overtake by me that was a bit hairy..bloody restriction. Cheers tony for the ice cream, i owe ya one

Nah, nobody stopped there except tony for petrol.

A wasp flew into my helmet, hence my rapid stop and helmet removal (ooer)
Aha fair enough, no idea how i lost you all then but a good ride!
It all went to pot when spank was coming back towards us on the roundabout. Waited a bit up ahead but no one appeared to went and filled up at loomies then off home! Don't think there were any near deaths or questionable overtakes. Oddly tame!

That's because I don't go the same way as tony at that point so was waiting for Simon, but then Si turned up but job seemed in troublesome thought I'd see if he was okay but by the time I got back round for the third pass he was ready to pull away again and after all that I reached the peters field services at the same time as tony and followed him to loomies anyway.

Yeah, Tony goes the long way to Loomies, the silly sausage! I went right at the spank circular roundabout and then blasted home. Just wanted to get back at that time.
Cheers to Tone for the ice cream! I was the only fecker cheeky enough to get a double cone, but I did offer him money, so I'm guilt free.

On another note, anyone would think this was an SV forum or something!
All a bunch of faired fairies. A real man would ride a naked thou! What's more would be taking the afore mentioned totty off for a more secluded location for a bit of Mr.Whippy licking.
Complaining you got lost ... well find some better roads yourself instead of complaining about being hopeless at following (oh and shoot any marker who deserts his/her post)
Chain fell off... get a tow with someone else and remember not to rely on split links next time
Wasp in your helmet...good manly belch should render it unconscious. Then chew it and spit it out.
Man up you lot!
Jason H
07-05-13, 04:30 PM
But I did ride a naked...just hadn't bumbled into the gaggle at this point. :(
Yeah yeah, lesson learnt. Got a new chain with rivet master link on order for tomorrow. Haven't got myself a riveting tool yet though. :???:
Also found the old chain at the side of the road.

I did offer a tow but apparently a horse box lift was a better option.
could you not reuse the old chain and get it riveted together?
SvNewbie
07-05-13, 05:23 PM
I've not experienced it myself, but I've heard a few things can go quite horribly wrong when a chain snaps, from locking the back wheel to giving you a horrible whack in the leg. I'd probably go the new chain route too :)

I'm pretty sure that was Darren's plan at the end of the day. Strangely he rides an IL4 which I always thought was a sure sign of fairy-ness.
oh and shoot any marker who deserts his/her post
I'm blaming it on the TEC deserting his post because of a minor wasp incident. Wasn't too concerned considering we were on the road from Petersfield to Loomies when people started getting lost.
Jason H
07-05-13, 06:31 PM
Considering it was flung down the road and looked like it had been a little grazed from it's sudden meeting with tarmac, I'm just going to throw a new one on for piece of mind.
From what I can tell, I got away with it (touch wood).
Oh and spank, you did indeed. Thanks for the offer...even if we didn't have rope.
J
Although you did miss out the part where i asked what's up, to which i got a response of maybe broken gearbox. Then i pointed out the lack of chain
Jason H
07-05-13, 06:35 PM
Shhh...Spank didn't notice either and he was stood next to me looking at it...
Well, looking at me clicking up and down gears revving like I was in neutral anyway.

Hey, until today I didn't know bikes HAD chains, next you'll be telling me I'm supposed to oil mine.
Fallout
07-05-13, 07:16 PM
Just in case the tow was a serious offer, never ever tow a bike! It will not end well. The ability for the front end to move around by itself and counter lean is what keeps the bike upright.
Spank86
07-05-13, 07:36 PM
I wasn't planning on doing it at 50mph and it's perfectly possibly tow a bike mr Keating.
Don't listen to faint hearts and cowards.
SvNewbie
07-05-13, 07:41 PM
Apparently the best way if you have to do it is right peg to left peg with the towing rope wrapped round the peg and held in place with the foot.
no. rope around each riders neck, best way

Tried to find a few vids on youtube I've seen before of people smashing their bikes up while trying to tow them. Unfortunately got distracted and just ended up watching crash videos instead.

Not in a million years would i have thought of that.
I would love to try it.....stuck I the middle of nowhere, waiting for how many hours of the tow truck...
Any takers ?.....yea never know.
Tim you wanted a go on my bike. Go to any triumph dealers and get a demo bike, take her out for a hour or so........then you'll know if I pinned her on Monday.
You'll be turning to the dark side...lol.

I wish I could! I'm still on a restricted license unfortunately :(
Judging by the speed of the unrestricted sv650 i dont think u need much more power! Try the cb500..power nowhere near the same ha
TCochrane
08-05-13, 12:40 PM
I'd still like something more powerful than the sv650, if money wasn't an option i'd probably buy an 848 evo or daytona 675 tomorrow!
When is your restriction up? Arent you gona stick with the sv and see how it is unrestricted?
Tim so would you have taken my bike out if I had said YES for your test ride. ?
The insurance would have been void.....
Your going to hate me now.!!
She is fecking brill, oh what a ride !.
You'll just have to wait till next year now....lol.
Run's and hide......
TCochrane
08-05-13, 12:57 PM
I guess I shall have to! :P
Ah right your just choosing to ignore the restriction..arent you concerned youll get caught out in the event of an accident?
Restrictions are there for a reason. Not just to protect you but those riding around you. Problem is many people who take them off do so before they are capable of safely handling 33bhp, let alone a full fat bike. Ever wondered why so many accidents happen to and around new riders?
It's for this sort of reason that multi-stage licenses are coming in with even stronger restrictions for new and young riders.
Not big, not clever. Doubtless I'll now get flamed but so be it!
I agree with mark. People who take their restrictors out generally do it before they can properly handle the bike they are riding. Generally they will be ok, but is it worth it? Individual circumstances will influence people's circumstances. It's as if people take the **** out of people who are on their restriction ?? None that I have come across certainly. Quite the opposite infact.
Spank86
08-05-13, 06:35 PM
The restriction laws are like most laws in that they are best fit, some may be able to handle a full power bike earlier and some should really be restricted longer, seems to me it's normally those that need the restriction most that take it out.
Jason H
08-05-13, 06:38 PM
Besides look at stuR he managed to keep up most of the time with his magical little restriction even on a cb500.
Spank86
08-05-13, 06:50 PM
I wasn't debating and none of us want to make you cry.
(But there are police officers on the forum so I'd be less than inclined to shout about it)
Some people plan to be good, some people plan to be quick. The former usually end up significantly quicker than the latter.
Those getting their skills right before getting carried away with power inevitably end up better riders in my experience; they plan better, they carry more corner speed and then when they add more power they are largely uncatchable AND safer than the ones who think it's all about power.
