View Full Version : Near Head On Collision
Some **** in a large 4x4 decided to try and skip the queue of traffic by flooring it down the oncoming lane which is the exit for a 2 lane roundabout.
If your coming off the roundabout onto this road you cannot see up the road until you go around the corner as your line of sight is blocked.
It's scary to think that some people are soo impatient that all common sense goes out the window.

Was going onto Sandy Lane by any chance?
Yeah. Sandy lane is the other side of the roundabout.
Can't wait to get back on the bike. Fitted new front discs, now just waiting on my new to me calipers to arrive.

That bit of from the A19 to there is famous for ****tish driving
You broke that ZX9 again?
Nope. The front discs were slightly warped so I bought some new ones and swapped them over. After swapping them over found my front calipers had seized for the second time in 2 months so I also decided to buy some different calipers which I am just waiting on now. (Nissin 4 pots - popular upgrade for the ZX9) Got them for £60 but they've been sat a few years so a good strip, clean and rebuild is needed and new pads but I will be selling my current calipers once I've rebuilt them back to working order.
Apart from some rough running which I still need to iron out it's actually been very reliable and a lot of fun.
Once I have front brakes again I wouldn't mind going for a ride somewhere if anyone is interested. As always it's going to be a calm ride out and grab a bite to eat. I'll post up in the local section as well.

Same stretch of road. Seems to be very common unfortunately.

Not sure what is worse, their driving or your reaction to it..... There are some right muppets out there, just chill out a bit!

Considering how close he was (or it looked on the video) im sure i'd of reacted the same..
That is, if my bike sounded as nice as that :D

Getting upset over something like that only goes to show how poor your own anticipation is. Think about it, they've been sat in a long traffic queue, they are quite possibly frustrated and thinking about a million other things than their driving, an opportunity opens up for them, they aren't necessarily going to remember their driving lesson (if indeed they ever had one) before acting. People are after all human and we all make mistakes. In the first example it was indeed pretty poor and aggressive driving but it didn't exactly endanger or involve the OP did it, the second one was a classic example of what we all know happens when filtering. The OP wasn't going particularly fast so no issues there, but his reaction afterwards was completely over the top, it's what gives bike riders a bad name.
ps: and I'm not trying to defend the car drivers.....like I said, complete muppets!
I disagree. Revving at someone when they act a **** isnt giving bikers a bad name. Bikers give us a bad name when they filter between lanes of the motorway at silly speeds, go through redlights to beyond the white line like pushbikes and drive dangerously, not show their frustration in what id say was an appropriate reaction

I'll disagree about the white line thing.
If you filter through to the lights you need to sit where the cat drives can see you, they don't naturally look sideways for you. At best get your mirrors ahead of theirs.

I usually pull at the side, with my front wheel on the line and do a quick blip of the throttle, not a horrendus rev as displayed in the video, a simple "vrum" not even a second long, on a twin it is a short bark sound and not antisocial.

I would have followed him on the second video and made him eat carbon fibre knuckles!

Yeah yeah yeah, course you would. It was no big deal, rise above it and get on with your life.
My reaction was over the top in the second one but not 5 minutes ago another young driver almost side swiped me on the roundabout before. Then this happens.
I wasn't going to rev it at first but when I saw his mate smiling, that was it. Even though his mate had nothing to do with it it's hard to be calm when that's what your met with after a close call.
The ting about that queue of traffic is you would only be there for maybe 10 minutes max if you sat in line but it seems to be a prime spot for people skipping the queue well before it's safe to do so which is why I am always cautious when filtering there. I should have seen him nudge out slightly just before he pulled out but I was partly thinking about the muppet 5 minutes ago.
After re-watching videos of things you have done you realise what you could have done better and that my reaction to some of these was over the top.

If you say you would punch someone every time you saw them make a mistake in front of you then you must be:
a: Britains most wanted.
b: Blind.
c: A hermit who never goes out on their bike.
d: A liar.
Like you say I don't know you so you decide which.

No i do not smack them all. Only ones that are stupid and do not say sorry for what they have done . And are obvious at fault

As for the 1st video, that was a nothing incident. Don't stress about these otherwise you'll stop riding altogether
For the second, it's too easy to condemn in hindsight. Maybe you should have been a little more cautious so close to the roundabout(as in definately!) but FFS you hardly reacted at all. A blip of the throttle to stop others pulling out maybe. Don't beat yourself up.
I'm not beating myself up over it. What I mean is that I like to watch back things like this to see if I could have anticipated it earlier or reacted differently.
I'm a lot more cautious now filtering down that road and when I get near the end I do blip the throttle a little to hopefully let people know I'm there but I'm still very cautious filtering near roundabouts regardless.
I did overreact but what's done is done and I've learnt something from watching this back. :)
