I was checking the bolts after changing my rear wheel and thought I'd check the rear pad retaining bolt was tight (not needed but as I was there....). The thread has been stripped. It can go finger tight but no more before twisting. The biek is a GSXR K7

So, change caliper, thread lock it or something else? Not sure I could get a helicoil in the caliper.....

If a helicoil won't work, its possible to go one size bigger and tap it out. Will require a bigger bolt, so it's a judgement call on if you wish to do this.....Also not sure what the space constraints are in there.

You could also get it filled with weld, then drill and re tap to original size. Depends how much messing around you want to do, and your budget.

Another caliper might be cheaper....

Do you have the single piston Tokico caliper?

Hi Sid

Yes, that's the one. You thinking helicoil??

I;m thinking another caliper from ebay might be cheaper (well, easier!!) :)

Yes. I've done exactly the same two or three times - how do people manage to strip that thread?
The wall is thin it's true, but there's no torque required so as long as you're careful it'll be fine.

Thanks Sid. I was a bit worried damaging the caliper more by trying to get the coil in as it is so think as the pin point. But nothing ventured I suppose!

I know exactly how it was stripped as it was my mates bike!!!
