cloudy day up here in Lancashire.
but donned the welding mask and had a look. Yes you can see the crescent shape as the sun is obscured, interesting to see. But hardly worth all the hype TV has given it.
Anyone get any good pics.

Exactly
I was lucky enough to be in the channel islands for the '99 eclipse.
When you are in the full shadow and get a break in the clouds it really is a very cool experience, however, as I was trying to explain to the nursery this morning 85% coverage does not equate to an 85% drop in light. The Sun's a big light source and you get plenty of light reflected about, so it's only a very small area that gets anything dramatic.
Where you were today would have made a big difference to your experience. In London, it was utterly forgetful.

Not as good as the total eclipse in 1999 in Austria, but . .

I couldn't sleep waiting for this... oh the excitement of it going dark... think it does that every night.

An eclipse is proof that God exists! How can you all be so passive about such a show of His magnificence?

Rubbish, it was the Death Star on its way to obliterate Aldebaran, and to crush the rebelion. Star Wars isn't fiction, its true life.

I was waiting for Thor and Loki to drop in during the convergence!
I had my Cape on and all!

Well I was wearing my Eclipse glasses as advised by all and sundry to
save my eyesight and nearly killed myself , luckily the bloke coming the other way was not wearing
his and managed to swerve and avoid a very nasty accident.

I once owned an Eclipse.
Oh wait, that was a car!
Got a good view here in Warwickshire, just slightly hazy cloud.
I was over in France for the 1999 total eclipse, right on the mid-line of the totality. It's amazing how close to totality you need to get before it becomes noticeably dark, something like 98%, but the last 2mins or so before totality it's just like someone turning down a dimmer switch. It really is very weird and if you get the opportunity then it's a must do experience, but it really has to be total or you just don't get the effect. It's very strange to have a dark sky overhead but the horizon is light all the way round, eerie. Then someone turns the dimmer switch back up ..............
