I went to see the new Star Wars and try as I liked, I didn't enjoy it. Harrison Ford didn't really fit in & neither did Carrie Fisher too old. All the other actors seemed very young, there didn't seem to be any actors in the middle age group. Sorry

I watched The Loft this morning & it was very watchable

Watched it too last night, not sure why I sat all the way through it !!! Not the best in the series of Die Hard films.

SPOILER ALERT

Also was dissappointed with SWTFA, just a remake of episode 4 & 5 !!! nothing new, nothing to get excited about, shame really, was really looking forward to it. My 2 daughters enjoyed it, but they haven't watched Star Wars & Empire Strikes Back, so it was new to them.

I also watched True Grit yesterday, this is such a cinematic treat, could watch it 10 times and not get bored.

I also watched Troll Hunter, a danish film with it's tongue jammed into it's cheek, not the greatest of cinematic treat, but worth a watch for something slightly different from the norm.

Jurrasic World, another pointless remake with huge super evil mutant dinosaurs, like normal dinosaurs aren't dangerous enough !!!! One for the kids.

Jurassic World
http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-0lVl18uD1FE/UojOhDXPmlI/AAAAAAAACDs/wZY3xDe2LbM/s400/v1-1.png
A continuation of Jurassic park series rather than a reboot. Its been a few years and they've come up with some hair brained idea that it will work again. Dont get me wrong, I wish Jurassic world actually existed and would be more than happy give it a visit knowing I might be veloceraptor breakfast.

Yes there are dinosaurs, kids, guns and a psychotic warmongering nutter. The weird characters and high body count doesn't satisfy your appetite nor the dinosaurs' as they rampage for more breakfast.
It is easy on the eye with plenty of Jurassic park references, the visual effects are striking and some of the concepts are novel. The film comes across as a patchwork quilt of ideas rather than a flowing story, leaving you scanning for the next person to be eaten.

Unfortunately Jurassic world is a bit of a split personality of neither a kids film nor a 18+ gore fest. It does leave you feeling a bit "meh". Kids for breakfast would've have made it more exciting 6/10.

Yep, utter garbage

Glad it wasn't just me then. My youngest enjoyed it too, I guess because it was on the big screen. Not as bad as the last 2 films, just thin on everything.

I'd like to see Star Wars on a big screen again. I don't remember going to se ESB at the cinema.

I also watched True Grit yesterday, this is such a cinematic treat, could watch it 10 times and not get bored.

Yep, I started to watch it, before the WiiU was turned on.

Haven't managed to watch any of the Jurassic ones all the way through.

I started to watch Air Force One last night, then gave up after watching them do ridiculous things with CGi & a 747. Then I flipped over to Kingsmen, which started off ok & then got a bit too violent, silly & preposterous toward the end.

I was really disappointed with Die Hard - the Russian one too.

Max max
http://pics.filmaffinity.com/Mad_Max_Fury_Road-429261909-large.jpg

It looks like a continuation of the other Max films dropping the viewing straight into the action. The film is visually and aurally amazing afterall whats not to like about loud engines?

To sum up the plot as a car crash would be too kind and yes there are plenty of car crashes. Set in the barren wastelands of down town New york it has a feeling of a cross between Road trip and Thelma and Louise. A truck load of kidnapped models heading to a commune paradise, driven by Theron with more balls than the Neanderthal Butler, being chased by rejects of Halloween pretty much sums its up. The twist in the plot is they head back one they realise they've made a wrong turn.

Its the kind of film you can surf on your phone and watch at the same time without missing too much. 4/10 if you must

The worlds end

https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/d/d8/The_World's_End_poster.jpg

The cast of whos whos in british comedy brings promise. Consisting of Pegg and Frost's A team assemble you get a feeling that it could be a good night at the movies with plenty of laughs. The film follows a bunch of likely friends that have settled into mid-lifedom except for one that never left the 1990s. Looking to finish the Golden Mile pub crawl from the 1990s our 40+ friends revisit Newton Haven to complete their mission.
It is funny in places but unfortunately lacks originality with plenty of cues from Shaun of the dead ( replace zombies with robots), Hot fuzz ( cops ahoy) and a bit of Dr Who. Thats not to say its not pleasurable but akin to eating your second helping of Ice cream, not as sensational as the first and you feel a little queasy.

The 90s soundtrack complements the action allowing the viewer to reminiscence their youth as the film rolls on.

6/10 Its worth watching if you havent had a recent binge of Pegg and Frost , otherwise wait until you've fully digested for maximum enjoyment.

The Legend of Barney Thomson.

Black comedy with Robert Carlyle and Ray Winstone.

I really enjoyed it but I think that was partly because of the patter and that I know the locations it was shot in - all the nice bits of Glasgow...Bridgeton, The Barras, Saracens Head etc.

Suvveners might need subtitles and will end up thinking Glasgow's a right ****hole. Which it mostly is.

Gave it 5 stars on Netflix. One of those was probably for the nostalgia.

Harry Brown
http://www.gstatic.com/tv/thumb/movieposters/7915083/p7915083_p_v8_aa.jpg

It is a british film about life on an estate in London. A gritty storyline that makes eastenders look like a holiday in butlins. An gang of youths create havoc terrorising residents and congregating by a subway. When one old resident has had enough and takes matter into his own hands, he suffers the consequence of his actions. Caine suffers more misery and the loss of his wife and best friend reignites his desire for vengence. One by one he takes out the ring leaders with Deathwish style efficiency. Plan B acts like he sings if that makes any sense. There are body counts and c bombs a plenty through out the film and certainly not one to watch with your grandmother let alone your mum.

The plot twist serves up a treat at the end which finishes the film off. Yes its like watching Deathwish set in Peckham and has the hallmarks of a Guy Ritchie film on a Dr who budget but it couldve been a lot worse.
6/10 Slow burner with fruity language and contains plenty of wooden acting and violence

Kajaki The True Story

On Netflix. A British film, it's based on a true story of a group of British soldiers, mainly 3 Para, stuck in an old Russian minefield in Afghanistan.

A really powerful film. Not "sexed up" like the typical Hollywood thing and not an easy watch as a result.

Very, very slow start which eventually helps underline how quickly things can go from drudgery to total SNAFU.

With stuff like The Night Manager, Line Of Duty, Scott & Bailey and The Five on TV lately one hardly needs to go to the movies. Line of Duty last night was just superb and it's great to see some strong female characters.

Ip Man 3.
I watched the first years ago before its general release in this country. You'd only find it, in hmv World Films section if you knew what to look for and it was an age before the second one got to general release here too.

The third film of the series dedicated to the life of Bruce Lees mentor, with Mike Tyson. Bit of an odd casting, perhaps trying to appeal to a wider audience, but to me not needed as the other fight scenes by Donnie Yen and Co stars were their usual mystifying choreography.

Edge of tomorrow
https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/f/f9/Edge_of_Tomorrow_Poster.jpg

Its a Tom cruise film with spaceships, aliens, guns and a lot of errmm shouting. Visually ok but with a clearly Made in UK feel about it. Why do they always land in Trafalgar square to let people know its London. It seems like a common occurrence in any film shot in the UK. I bet most tourists get a huge shock when they see Nelsons column in something similar to a moshpit at an Adele concert.

Nice start to the film with a twist. Think groundhog day meets the hobbit. Actually its much better than it sounds. It has a love story in between the lines and is as much of a rom com as Deapool. A lot of the scenes begin to grate as they overuse the reset rewind theme core to the film ( cue "re re wind when the crowd say bo selecta")

Emily Blunt plays the sword wielding Full metal B*tch and does the dead pan bad ass well. Their relationship develops as they look to find a solution to the end the war with the Aliens.

Yes I know its pretty much the same as his last 10 films but I'm still hoping for a Top gun gem somewhere along the line. This isnt quite there. Enough action to keep you interested through the scenes of deja vu. A vision of the future it is not. 6/10 for a thursday night type film

The Last Witch Hunter
https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/thumb/8/8f/The_Last_Witch_Hunter_poster.jpg/220px-The_Last_Witch_Hunter_poster.jpg

What kind of film do you get casting a Hobbit, Wildling, Alfie and and ageing illegal street car racer? Pretty much this film. The film drops you straight into the action, the back story unfolds as it follows our immortal hero on his mission to balance the status quo of witches and thus prevent the impending apocalypse.

At times the viewer feels lost as the the film throws up more questions than answers. It is almost as if you need to watch the prequel except there isnt one. Once you let go of those ideas its moves along nicely. Vin Diesel plays a slightly different role to his normal all action type. There are more facial expressions and more than the usual monosyllabic dialogue although at some points its almost scary when he smiles a bit too long into the camera. The obligatory fast car ( Aston Martin) is chucked in and cue the dodgy one liners. This film could have gone completely down the Lord of the Rings route but it does have a tinge of Harry Potter. All in all visually ok however the story doesn't quite engage with the viewer. Fight the urges to switch it off as it does get better. 6/10 if you like your witches with red hair

Watched Sulli last night with Tom Hanks,Telling the tale of the plane that landed in the Hudson after a bird strike, all 155 survived but the system wasn't happy about the outcome and tried to prove he could have saved the plane as well,as usual TH was brilliant as everyone else....well recommended

Snowden,

I enjoyed this film, very much a battle of conscience over duty - some people might find it a bit slow but stay with it, well worth a watch

I very rarely watch films and I last went to the cinema about 8 years ago. Last night the tv was showing The Ipcress File (1965) and i sat all the way through (I normally fidget and turn off the tv long before the end). Did I say that I very rarely watch films?

borlocks to that list. Star Wars is not on it. professional film critics are people just wanting to be listened to who cant get a real job. i always completely ignore reviews of films, i'll decide if i like it or not.. lol

I wouldn't know if they are any good. I've only watched 3 of the 100.

Truth, watched this on Sky this morning, true story & great acting about 'George W Bush's' dodging of getting out of going to Vietnam. This is the story of the '60 minutes' news reporting of the cover up. A good watch

Star wars Rouge One at the cinema.. better than The Force Awakens. i did not like the force awakens as it was the sameold story just made new. Rouge One however is pure Star Wars.

Legend Of Tarzan.. i enjoyed it.
The Jungle Book (new).. yup its ok but not as good as the original animated one.
Pete's Dragon (new).. yup its a good one.
Warcraft.. complete and utter fantasy spectacular, good in my view.
Suicide Squad.. good for a laugh and i enjoyed it.

Pity I couldn't convince my youngest to go and see Rouge One, I'll have to go on my own

Force Awakens was mostly utter garbage, I've tied to watch it again, but it still didn't get my attention.

TBH i enjoy most movies unless they are really bad. i watch movies for what they are and that is an escape from reality. i cant stand it when people say 'but its not like the book' well ermmm of course its not as its moving images not written words and you cant fit a book that would take say 2 days to read into 2hrs watching time, something has to give. the script writers do the best they can and the director interprets the script and directs the actors into hopefully giving their best.

if I dont like a movie then I turn it off but dont put others off just because I never liked it is my philosophy. i'm also one of those people that will watch favourite movies on a regular basis because i enjoy watching a particular movie due to it making me 'feel' a certain way and yes i also cry, laugh, flinch, etc.etc while watching :-)

Most of the books i read are peoples biographies, and mostly cycling related, so not much chance of it turning inyo a film. Last film (s) based on a book i'd read would have been Lord of the Rings trilogy, which met my expectations in many ways. Glad i saw it on the big screen, as it isn't as good on the tv.

I can usually tell fairly quickly if im going to like a movie, and will ignore any rating. I didn't expect to like Deadpool, but it was fab, but something like Avatar i just got bored with it. I still find favourites a great watch, for instance The Great Escape, a great movie. Blazing Saddles, Airplane, and Young Frankenstein still make me laugh, even though i know all the gags.

Monster Trucks the movie. Which is what happens when you let a seven year old pick what to see. Followed by the obligatory trip to Nandos.

The antidote was to watch all of Modus over 3 days after Christmas which I really enjoyed.

Went to see Dunkirk when it came out. Very disappointed. Disjointed, loud, no characterisation. All the main infantry characters shown as cowardly chancers. Also the opening sequence was factually incorrect. Altogether a disgrace.

This in now way represents my dads experience who was evacuated by a small boat from the dunes.

Not films but just bought all three series on DVD of The League of Gentlemen. Working our way through all the episodes with my daughters. Very dark humour and gets more surreal with each episode. Only on episode two and so far we've had murder, incest, and cannibalism amongst other things!
I'd forgotten how good these shows were.

Early Man - another instant classic from Aardman & Nick Park, have loved their work since primary school days watching Morph on TV with the late Tony Hart. Top-notch cast of voices. Not a lot of entertainment around now that three generations of the same family can enjoy together.

I've just rewatched Skyline and it still has a weird ending (don't know why I thought it would end differently). Eric Balfour (who was in the tv series Haven) get's his brain and brain stem pulled out, inserted into an alien body but instead of becoming another slave, goes beserk, saves the girl and...that's all folks

(and don't get me started about a nuke going off less than a mile away leaving the buildings intact)

I've just discovered there's a sequel: "Beyond Skyline" can't wait. (yes, of course I'll watch it)Why would you subject yourself to watching Skyline. It was the biggest load of plop I have ever had the misfortune of seeing. The last Godzilla film wasn't much better.

Deadpool 2 - Brilliant! Really funny

Although it did do the whole 'show the exciting bit at the start then rewind a few weeks'. Why does every film feel the need to do that? I've already decided to watch the film, you don't need to sell it to me

Oh and it had a Wilhelm scream too, so loses points for that

That's for people with a really short attention span like me. If it doesn't grab me in the first 10 seconds I wander off to do something else. Can't watch loads of Netflix serials cos the first 2 episodes are mostly spent setting the scene and, you know, I've got stuff to do.

Great film tho. Morena Baccarin :smt007:smt117:safe:
