Fork rebuild - squeaking

Hey Everyone

Finally got around to rebuilding my forks, with the modified damper rods and emulators installed. one of them seems to be perfect. however the other one when being compressed is making a "squeaking" noise.

i am thinking it must be something rubbing on the stanchion as its being compressed, but i am wondering if anyone knows of a likely culprit? i have re-seated the spring already, and i don't think it can be the washer/spacer at the top of the stack, as these don't really move.

the other fork is totally fine, completely silent.

What state were the fork bushings in? (upper and lower)

yea probably!

its a K5 650 naked.

all sorted now, took the spring out and refitted it, and the noise has gone, so it must have been sitting a bit funny on the emulator and rubbing on the stanchion.

bike is all reassembled now, just need to go around and torque the bolts, then hopefully get it an MOT :D

Fun fact, the reason your fork oil goes all dirty and silvery, is that the spring continuously rubs itself during travel and its the metal dust that turns the oil silvery.

It's quite easy to not get the emulator sitting in the damper rod cocked up at one side, I did this then wondered why the fork cap wouldn't reach the threads in the stanchion.

yea the fork oil that came out was pretty horrendous!
