Didn't go out last week. Wasn't really in the mood. I've been getting angry at stupid things all day today so had to get out. Did my usual 5 miles. It's definitely getting easier

It's a brilliant method of clearing the head ain't it? Also, first it gets easier, then you get quicker and it gets harder again as the urge to get even faster takes hold! :D

Just a short run round my usual loop of 3.7 miles (https://www.strava.com/activities/2252821746) from Thursday. Lovely crisp run in early morning sunshine and birdsong.

Stopped on top of the allt to watch a solitary male lapwing displaying and then on the bridge heading back into the village to stare at and listen to the river burbling past under me.

I was in Norfolk this weekend. Managed to get a run in this morning with my missus. Just under 8 miles. Really nice run. Pics on Strava.

Out this morning for a loop of just over 6 miles (https://www.strava.com/activities/2259661374) on one of my older trails. Nice run, most of the mud has dried up now. Took it steady and had a bit of a plod round. very enjoyable and just what was needed.

Well done for getting out there in the first place Darren.

I don't mind running in the rain and cold as long as I have the right kit on. I hate getting caught out halfway round a run with no waterproof jacket.

Out this morning for a short 3.6 mile run in company with a couple of fellow Powys Canicrossers. Lovely run around the trails of Gregynog Hall (https://www.strava.com/activities/2273039085). We're going to go back again soon as there are loads of inviting looking trails to explore. I reckon we could put together a 10 mile run there.

Lots of ups and downs there with some lovely views from the tops.

Out again yesterday morning with my mate up the road. We were a bit pushed for time so just a short 3.7 mile run around my usual loop (https://www.strava.com/activities/2280021887). I'm hoping to get out for a longer run tomorrow morning.

You still made it out there though Darren.

A fellow canicross runner has just messaged me to ask if I want to go on a run with her tomorrow morning. We're going for a run over the Breidden and Middletown hills (https://www.oswestry-welshborders.org.uk/attractions/breidden-hill-rodneys-pillar/) not far from Welshpool. There will be a lot of ascent and descent involved!

Absolutely cracking run out today with a friend and the hounds. 8.3 miles in the Breidden Hills (https://www.strava.com/activities/2287507495), taking in Rodney's Pillar at Criggion, the gypsy memorial at Moel y Golfa, and the hillfort on Middletown Hill. 2749ft of elevation in all, in great conditions.

Forgot to take my Garmin, so I'm waiting for my friend to send me the gpx file. I'll post a link to Strava when I have it, along with some of the pictures I took.

**Edit** Had the gpx file from my friend now so Strava link to the run included above.

Nothing wrong with that DD, especially if you've not run for a couple of weeks. Take it steady and build up the speed gradually.

Just put a Strava link to my Thursday run on the Breidden Hills in my previous post.

If you want higher speeds/faster pace over shorter distances then run longer distances as training. Only 20% of your total run should be at your maximum pace. The other 80% should be split equally between easy and moderate pace.

Had to send my lovely, comfy, grippy Higher State Soil Shaker trail shoes back to sportsshoes as they were coming apart after fewer than 200 miles. I've used the credit and made up the difference to get a pair of these instead (https://www.sportsshoes.com/product/ino1296/inov8-roclite-315-trail-running-shoes-~-ss18/).

Shame about the Soil Shakers though as they were some of the most comfortable trail shoes I've ever had.

I successfully ran a local 10k trail race today. My ankle has been playing up badly for months now. Whether it was the change of shoes, the ankle taping, or the ibuprofen I took, I had no problems with it today. I'm fully expecting it to complain tomorrow, but for now I'm happy :)

Great stuff, well done. Trail running is so much kinder on the joints than tarmac. How was your time/pace on the run? Were you happy with it?

Slower than my fastest time for the course, but I was just happy to finish it. The first three or four km was a mental battle (I *could* just pull out now and walk back) but my pace increased every mile, so I was clearly settling into it. I pushed a bit hard at the end and finished just under 55 minutes, which I'm pretty happy with.

Of course, my wife finished a couple of minutes quicker, but that's fine, too :)

One of the Canicross Clwyd (https://www.facebook.com/groups/556372887837617/) members has organised a great little event for early June, "A Grand Day out - Train and Run- Ffestiniog and Welsh Highland Railway" (https://www.facebook.com/events/790112258016874/). Folk are meeting with their dogs in Blaenau Ffestiniog, getting the steam train into Porthmadog and then running the 20 miles back to Blaenau Ffestiniog.

We have a coach on the train specially reserved for runners and hounds on the way to Porthmadog. The run back will involve going over Cnicht, also known as the Welsh Matterhorn. If the weather stays good it should be a stunning run with some truly spectacular views.

Good stuff, parkrun. "It's a run not a race" as they say. I find them good for giving the weekday running some focus, and allowing you to gauge how times and fitness are doing.

Nothing wrong at all with a 55 minute 10k trail. Pretty respectable time I'd say.

Out for a run around my short loop this morning (https://www.strava.com/activities/2369086549). Kept it brief in order to try out the new Inov-8 shoes. I didn't want to head out on a long run and find out halfway round that they were rubbing my feet badly. Pleased to say though that they are very comfortable, with loads of grip and feel to them.

The shoes are really good. They're slightly narrower than some of my other running shoes but still comfortable. They work really well too, seeming to push me forward with each step in the same way that a good pair of walking boots do. Grip, both fore and aft, and laterally is excellent. The shoes come with the extra lacelock holes which means they stay put on my feet and don't loosen off over the course of a run. The laces could ideally do with being an inch or two longer though.

It is possible to buy them in different width fittings I'm told, so you should be able to find some which work for you. Having said that, I have fairly wide feet and these fit fine.

Keep going and you'll get where you want to be. The other parkrun mantra is the "the hardest part of parkrun is getting out of the door!". You could apply that to both the running and lots of other stuff we do (or don't do).

I'm going to get back on track with the running again this next couple of weeks as I have some fairly full on running weekends coming up.

Got a whole weekend of running on 1st/2nd June, a collaboration between Canicross Clwyd and Canicross Powys. Saturday 1st is the Canix Clwyd leg, a 10 mile group run in the hills above Llangollen. Then on Sunday I'm leading another 10 - 12 mile run on the trails around my area in Dolanog.

The following weekend a large group of us are meeting with dogs at Blaenau Ffestiniog and getting the steam train to Porthmadog. We have a reserved carriage for runners and hounds. From Porthmadog we're running the 20 miles of mountain trails back to Blaenau Ffestiniog via Cnicht and Cwmorthin.

Hope the weather is good for the 20 miler!

I am still aching from Saturdays efforts, I too plan to get back on it.
There are obviously a lot of mad people out there in this world, at these OCR events there are people who run Oblivion. I hadn't realised what this was till last night. Basically they run the 12K loop that I did - 4 times!! 4 times.... That's 48K and 360+ obstacles.

Damn.

20 miles - are you mad?

Quite possibly! It's all going to be at a social pace, and the chap organising it is allowing 4 -5 hours to do the run. Some parts of the ascent of Cnicht are going to involve walking rather than running as it's a pretty steep mountain.

Hooray, made it out for a short run around my local loop (https://www.strava.com/activities/2400893524) this morning and my back seems to be ok. Time to get some miles in this week then in prep for 2 very hilly ten mile days this coming weekend and a mountainous 20 miler (and a ride on a steam train (https://www.festrail.co.uk/)!) the following Saturday.

My wife completed the London to Brighton challenge run on Saturday - taking 18 hours, 36 minutes. I was supporting, but had just enough time to get in Nonsuch parkrun, which was on the route. Quite amazingly, we crossed paths while running and both stopped for a selfie :-D

Blimey 18 and a half hours is a serious amount of time to be running. Well done to your wife for doing it.

Out this morning for a drizzly but enjoyable 7.8 miles (https://www.strava.com/activities/2405958183). Just starting to build the distances now in prep for the next couple of weekends. I've got a 12 miler in mind for either tomorrow evening or Friday morning.

The first day of our weekend of running as a joint social event organised by Canicross Clwyd and Canicross Powys. Around 13 miles in the hills above Llangollen (https://www.strava.com/activities/2415430415). A great day!

I'm leading a 10 mile social run on the trails around here tomorrow morning for our second day.

I'll post all the pictures up when the weekend's activities are over.

The Relive video is here (https://www.relive.cc/view/2415430415) too.

Second run of the weekend event done this morning. Ten miles on the trails here (https://www.strava.com/activities/2417611885) in great company. Legs are feeling the effect of 23 hilly miles in two days, so having filled up on tea and cake, I'm now going for a soak in the bath!

I had to pull out of parkrun on Saturday after a mile - and not even because of my ankle, I've done something to me knee on the other side. I'm literally falling apart, very frustrating.

Well done on that. A couple of minutes over a short distance is an impressive improvement on a PB.

It is so frustrating not being able to finish a run. You did the sensible thing and stopped though. I've injured myself on a parkrun before and forced myself on to the end, and then spent several weeks recovering from the avoidable damage I'd done to myself. :(

Bloody hell your lad is fast Martin!

Should have been out on a 21 mile mountain run yesterday but sat at home feeling like crap with a blinding headache instead. Gutted to have missed the run but made it out for a shorter run in lovely sunshine this morning instead. 4.3 miles of mixed terrain from home to the Quaker meeting house at Dolobran. The intention had been to go for a run this morning but I woke up with a blinder of a headache, and felt dizzy and nauseous. Tea, porridge, paracetamol, and water sorted things out after a fashion but I settled for a walk instead. I'll try and get an early morning run in tomorrow before I start work.

Too much sauce last night Gary? Hope you are feeling better. My chance of a run this weekend is pretty much zero. My missus is on a jolly in Sweden and I'm home alone with the 3 terrors. She really knows how to spoil me for fathers day. I might try to suggest they all come out on their bikes tomorrow morning , but I'm not sure how far A will go.

No alcohol involved Martin, I'm not really a drinker. Don't know what caused it. Pint of water, couple of paracetamol, cup of tea and a bowl of porridge had me feeling better by around 11am, but too late to get out for a run by then. :-(

Made it out this morning at 6.15am for a circuit of my short loop (https://www.strava.com/activities/2452584529) before starting work at 10am.

Just considering running to Quakers again tomorrow morning as it's a lovely route.

The sky cleared suddenly while I was running over the allt, and it quickly got very warm! Nice run though and great to get out there again.

Forgive me Running Thread for I have sinned. It has been 9 weeks since my last run.

Yeah it's pretty easy to let it slip, I was running 3-4 times a week then didn't run for a few weeks since then the most I've run is twice a week!

Anyway, did a 5k pizza run last weekend with youngest daughter, for a young un she's pretty slow ;)

My normal parkrun this morning and another PR, 30s faster than last week. Have done 4 park runs now and I've got faster by almost 4 minutes since the first one.
Which has spurred me on to get my backside in gear and get back out running more

I found the same as you dd. parkrun is great for spurring you on, especially in the early days of doing it when almost every one results in a new pb. It gives the weekday runs a focus.
I don't do many parkruns atm as it's a 20 mile drive to the nearest one. I will start doing a few again though I think as I love the whole thing with them, and the atmosphere is always so good and friendly.

Hopefully going to run to Quakers tomorrow morning. It's a glorious 5 mile riverside run through mixed terrain; trails, footpaths, field, forest and through a village.

You're not wrong about the friendly atmosphere at parkruns, the one I've been going to is pretty good, nice bit of scenery, some wooded bits, some field and along a bit of canal towpath
You get the faster runners cheering on those of us that aren't so fast once they've finished and it's only a 10 minute drive from me, there is one a bit closer but it's pretty much just round a field

Family effort today, we all ran the Quendon and Rickling 5k. I had hoped to do the 10k. But both boys wanted to run too so I went with the eldest and O. left my missus behind. A. did the 1k run too. It was a little sweaty. Quite an expensive morning.

I managed my 5 miles tonight. It was a bit of a struggle to begin with. I had to walk for a little bit after a mile or so to catch my breath. I settled in to it after that though.

Caffeine definitely helps me a lot, but it's not really an option on a school night :)
