View Full Version : old Panasonic tv question
Asking questions about a tv on a motorcycle site? Well someone may know...
I have an old Panasonic (Viera) tv (maybe 8 -10 years old), I have fitted a Netgear USB wifi adaptor, I can select my laptop as a media server, view images and any video that is stored on the laptop.
Would I be correct in thinking that with this set up it is not possible to stream a live internet video file direct to the telly. From what playing around I've done, it seems that the problem lies with getting the tv into a mode where it can receive the stream. I have VLC and it is capable of sending a stream but the tv is looking for a resident file.

Does it not have any apps? Or do you have a DVD player or games console?

Ahh you'd probably need kodi for that. Although both of those series are out so you'd be better completely downloading them rather than streaming.
I really enjoyed the new star trek

Oh I didn't realise it was the same timeline. I can't really remember enterprise. Looking forward to series 2 after the last episodes cliff hanger
windows 10 has support for 'wireless tv' but as far as i'm aware the tv needs support for this. basically windows sees the wireless tv as a monitor. i think you can get wireless transmitters/receivers for this which plug into hdmi ports.
looked into this a little more for you.
you need a miracast wifi display adaptor dongle. loads to choose from on ebay so do your research first.

I think mine was still on Viera Cast last time I looked and didn't have any good apps. I don't have the tv connected just now to check what's on it

Does it have hdmi sockets?
If so just get a Roku streaming stick.
Magic little gadgets.

But with Roku aren't you limited to the channels they supply
Yes and no.
There's over a thousand channels so no shortage of stuff to watch.
If you want to play video files wirelessly from a NAS drive, Roku Media Player will do it, if you want to stream content from an Android phone using "Play To" it will do that.
Thought about just getting a media pc and hooking it up to the TV?
That's what I, kinda, do with mine. I say kinda as it's not a media pc, it's a full size tower but I just use it to watch TV n films through my TV.
There are some really small media pcs about that don't clutter up the area.

I did look at Roku again but is it correct that they want credit card details...
Yes, but you can set it so that no purchases will be made without express approval so you can't use the card by mistake.
