You can call me stupid if u want but ive been caught speeding by a mobile van in wales! I was doing 113mph in a 70mph zone! Has anyone been caught speeding over 100mph if so could u throw me any ideas wots install for me?????????
If ne one has got ne good ideas how to get out of it as they dont no im the rider at the time and have to send back a form giving details of the rider.
Please help i would be very greatful
Thanks Matt
Most probably they will try and ban you but you should only get 3-4 months I would expect. My mate got done doing 117 in a 50 and he was banned for 4 months. Just be thankful it is at the end of the summer.
Matt,
Sorry to hear about that.
There are many things that you could try if you were not stopped at the time.
It seems that the refusing to sign the form trick does not work unless you have lots of money.
You could try and give the details of somebody in a foreign country who would back you up.
You could find a friend who would say it could have been them or could have been you - not sure what would happen if you said you honestly didnt know who was driving at the time.
Apart from that cannot help any more.
I suspect a longish ban - anything over 30 over the limit is deemed very serious I am afraid (although I do not agree - it depends on the circumstances)

****e, that's really bad luck.
I also heard that anything in excess of 30mph over the limit is an instant ban. Yikes!
I've heard that if the Police can't firmly establish who was riding then no-one gets convicted, ie you get away with it. So, looks like you need a very, very good friend to help you out. You'll also need to be careful too as the cops may ask about what helmet and leathers etc you've got and try and deduce the rider from that.
You can get away without a ban if you can successfully argue that losing your job will cause you to lose your job/livelihood. For example, if you're a company rep/salesman, then you'd lose your job if you lost your license. The rational is that to lose your job would be too harsh a punishment. This works even better if you have kids. What happens is that you get the points and you get the fine, but they allow you to keep your license. You can expect huge insurance premiums though. A friend of mine managed to successuly argue this a few years ago. He had 18 points on his license for nearly two years!
Good luck,
Marc.

Sorry typo above. What I meant was:

only way you get an automatic ban is if you are twice the speed limt 60mph in a 30 zone but could try and get you with reckless driving so watch out
Matt, sorry to hear about your bad luck.
In reference to Andy's post, if you do say it was someone else driving, make sure they're insured other you can get done for allowing an uninsured rider to use your bike... My girlfriend asked a cop m8 when she got caught for speeding in her car..... Sorry to add to the nasty... :-(

id say that u are looking at a 6 month ban, having to re-do your (extended)test at the end of it
there was a case not that long ago where a guy got the letter through asking who was riding/driving the vehicle hefilled it in but didnt sign it (by mistake)
and when it went to court, the document could not be used as evidence to prosecute as it wasnt signed & there was no legal binding to sign the document, so the case fell through due to lack of evidence, the police knew of this loop hole in the law but i dont know if they have closed it up, or will charge u for with holding information or some ******** like that, best bet is speak to a soliciter(maybe even road law orientated one)

Firstly sorry dude - this is turning into a Police state but there maybe a light at the end of the tunnel this site is full of useful information for the supposed "innocent until proven guilty" all I can say is good luck!

Just a word of caution guys - there is the potential in the above posts I suggest for charges of "conspiracy" and "preventing the course of justice" to be brought by some malicious web-savvy copper. If you've been caught speeding and are trying to wriggle out of it, I wouldn't discuss it openly on this forum.
Just trying to help.

vinyl is right & thanks greg for the warning
a mate of mine got stopped in may for 118 on the M20 his only crime stupidity & not checking his mirrors for the 10 miles the cops had been chasing him. He was cautioned giving him a legal notice of impending prosecution - hes still awaiting his summons to court & they have 6 months to do it - now thats just cruel in my opinion
Most of the research we have done since has suggested that you will be likely facing a 56 day ban & a fine of up to £2,000 (the max fine a magistrate can give) - all in all its still s**t

Just curious, where was the camera? or was it a patrol car?

Some people have got out of convictions if the camera hasn't been recently calibrated. I don't know how often it needs doing but, if confronted, the plod have to produce a certificate to show that it was calibrated within the specified time.
It could be worth a go.

It was a mobile camera van
it will be a ban, how long depends on if you can get your boss saying that you need you licence to work. what they normally do is shorten the ban but increase the fine
I was caught doing 63 in a 30 limit in my Montego Turbo in 1994. I received a 9 month ban. (In mitigation it was after midnight on a deserted road but no excuses - I was well wrong.) My friend, Rob, was caught doing close to 120 on the A3 after a night shift on a sunday morning on his GSXR 750. He went to court and pleaded guilty and gave written evidence from his employer that stated he would lose his job if he was banned. He apologised profusely, reminded them that it was a dry, summers day with good visibility and minimal traffic. He got away without a ban and kept his job. I didn't do any of the above, lost my job and paid extortionate insurance premiums for several years. The moral of the story is obvious - don't be cocky, admit that you were wrong and plead guilty.
Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but 30 over the speed limit on any motorway is an instant ban-so 117 and you have some serious grovelling to do. A mate of mine who is himself a cop got done doing 106 mph on an empty M6- he was in a Golf GTI with his ill and pregnant wife in the car, still got a ban but due to the mitigation it was only 4 weeks , then he got a £600 fine (ouch!).
The best thing to do is own up, attend court in your best suit, and give the story about loss of job and the subsequent effect on your family. I would ignore all the advise about clever get out clauses etc, coz if the cops suspect your telling porkies and decided to investigate further, they will probably catch you out. Perverting the course of justice is a trip to crown court, prison or big fine and you will still lose your licence-plus any sob story has then gone out the window.

Matt, Whereabouts in Wales was it?
I went up to Corwen and Bala last week and saw loads of signs for cameras, but not a single one. Are they hidden?
I am now worried.....
Right, its almost always an instant ban for 30mph over the limit, not double the limit. You have got a lot against you because it was a gatso and not a patrol car though can you prove what the conditions were like at the time? Clear, dry, not much traffic at all?
It is still up to their disgression but in this day you will more than likely get a ban. My brother got caught doing 107mph on the M1 I think it was. He was 19 and got a 2 week ban, a 60 pound fine and NO points on his license BUT he was caught by an unmarked car which noted down that his driving was immaculate and that the conditions were good, in their exact words "if you were just doing 97mph we would have left you alone but you broke the ton so we had to do you, sorry mate" and they were very cool and reasonable about it all.
You can ask a friend who happend to be in the country at the time to take the flak and just pay them the fine but I wouldn't want to do it unless they were actually in the country, oh and its NOT your responsibility to make sure they were insured, that is down to the driver, its almost always the drivers responsibility.
If you dont have someone to take the flak all you can do is argue all the good points (clear, dry, no traffic, bike in good condition, got to drive for job, have kids, etc) things that you may not necessarily be able to prove but won't harm you for saying and then just take what is dished out.
Sorry you got caught mate. I know the exact feeling.
Benji
oh yes forgot to mention, as mentioned above:
Be very very polite, apologise lots but do not play them for idiots AT ALL. My brother turned up the smartest he had ever and was very genuinly sorry. In my opinion its the best defense you have.
