Break down cover

Hi anybody have bike specific breadown cover? I have RAC for the car but it is car specific only, I also have AA one of these freebies (pay through the nose for) from my bank but the AA are un sure if it covers me on a bike.

I have just been offered a great deal from the RAC because i am disabled £83.00 per year and covers me for everything any vehicle any where any time even in europe this sounds like a good deal.

Just wondering what every one else uses

I pay £8 something per month to the RAC for any vehicle, anywhere.

Many insurance policies come with a breakdown recovery service included these days (at neglible cost) - I consider it a no-brainer, and haven't been disappointed as I've already needed assistance twice on a policy that incepted in June!

I've got AA cover as part of the deal when I bought my bike, but they're useless.

Out of the 3 times they have come out, only once did they send a bike mechanic (who admittedly was very good). One didn't even bother to come out, he rang on a mobile on his way over, "diagnosed" the problem and said he would have to tow it and he would come back the next day. The next day a different mechanic actually came and looked at the bike and fixed it in 5 minutes.

Also, their response times (in both my and friend's experience) are rubbish. Once when I was broken down on dodgy bend on a hill (and it wasn't possible to move the bike) I mentioned that it was getting dark and could they send someone soon as I'd already nearly been hit by a car once. They agreed and said my call would be marked as vulnerable so they would prioritise this. In spite of this, they took well over 3 hours (I was initally told 45 minutes) and only notified me of the change in ETA when I rang up asking where the chap was. They ended up sending a non-AA car mechanic who had to borrow tools from me to fix the bike!

I will get breakdown cover (I consider it a must), when this one runs out, but I'll look elsewhere.

I reckon £83 a year was pretty good, particularly as it's European cover too.

i have aa - the free one with the bank (llyods) but its ruubbish - the small print says it only is roadside assistance - no towing or anything after 10 miles where they take it to the nearest garage.

i also got NCI which is in any veichle 73 quid a year :)
even if im unfit to ride or by bike is damaged through vandalism and stuff

NCI quoted me £94 all in.
The RAC response is aimed at disabled drivers/riders they promise to have someone with you within thirty mins or at least have someone to you while mechanic/recovery gets to you and it also covers you for illness recovery of bike/car after an accedent and over night accommodation if required.

considering what you have said and my own research the RAC seems to be a bargain.

My bike breakdown cover is through Bennetts costs £49.00 Only had to use them the once when I was offed about 4miles from home.

It took the recovery garage (not a bike specialist) about 30mins to arrive at 3pm on a Friday and at least they phoned me first to assertain whether the bike could be pushed onto a tailer or would they need to lift it onto a flat bed.

The guy even helped me push it into the garage when we got it home. (Actually he pushed it. I shoved it with my one working arm)

So I was happy enough to include it again at my renewal.

Just sent off the renewal for my RAC cover using Tesco clubcard vouchers.

Costs £26.50 worth of vouchers for joint cover (me and Ali ) on any vehicle, breakdown and recovery.

In effect it costs nothing as we shop at Tesco anyway.

Not used it on the bike, but a few times in the car. Breakdowns were sorted very well, but when I was in an accident and the car was a write-off it took them ages to get a contractor to recover the car.
