Last year, I enjoyed the socialising more than the ride, I think plenty of the others that camped did to. That's why we decided to have a Saturday ride instead of the Sunday. So the we could all gather after the ride and really socialise. without the worry of having to ride the next morning.

I know- at it makes sense.. well it does now- I dont think anything will make sense sunday morning...
mind you- I wont be getting drunk- Kims with me so she will throw me "the look" that tells me I have had enough to drink.. !
oh and my little group didnt socialise with yours simon.. there seemed to be 2 factions last year-mind you- you wer eposh you had a meal... we had "chippy " I am sure the compulsory nudity will break down the barriers this year though.. .. you do realise all shropshire folk get naked on a saturday night at 10pm.. it's the law - ask ED!
Just checked the route for me................ basically A49 to Shrewsbury, anticlockwise on the A5 around it, then west on the A458.
Sounds easy.......except it's about 115miles each way plus the rideout. Gonna be about 350 miles in the day, with a 7:00am start if I want breakfast at Dinkies
Oh well, teeth-gritting time it is

I can take a spare sleep bag/blanket... we have the car and bike there- so u can bed down in my car !!!.... then u dont need bring anything- just yerself and cash and a drinking head.!
IT'LL BE WORTH IT- !
Yeah - I know. Wouldn't be making the effort if it wasn't
do you really have to play footy >>> ??>...
Yep - I'm managing one of the local kids' teams in their own special World Cup tournament. Got to be there. Want to be there to show then how England should have played

Nice idea but too short notice......

The A49 is a good road - well certainly from Leominster. Watch out for some cracking bends at Marshbrook, between Craven Arms and Church Stretton. Last little bit from Dorrington is a bit slow though, and on Saturday morning's there's occasionally a mobile camera van in the 30 limit at Bayston Hill, last village before the A5.
But - anticlockwise?? You're going The Long Way Round, mister!! Deffo CLOCKWISE. Get to Bayley's Island (can't miss it - it's just a bit big, signed A5 'n' all) and TURN LEFT!!!!! 3 roundabouts will bring you to the A458, take a left (signed Welshpool, Machynlleth and mid-Wales), 2 miles will bring you to Ford. Through village, Dinkys is in a sort of wooded layby on the right hand side as you leave the village.
Incidentally you won't be the only Hornet. Col, who bought mine, is coming too. Am looking forward to seeing what he's done with the bike.
Finally - there are no fixed cameras on the route and I can only think of 3 sets of traffic lights, they're within a few miles of the end of the ride, at Meole Brace (on the roundabout) and Shelton (2 sets) assuming that we come back through the southern part of town rather than round the A5 - if we do the A5 then there aren't any at all.
The A49 is a good road - well certainly from Leominster. Watch out for some cracking bends at Marshbrook, between Craven Arms and Church Stretton.
Dude, I know the road well.....on my "Friday night route home"
But - anticlockwise?? You're going The Long Way Round, mister!!
Whoops - I meant turn left at A49/A5 junction

thanks for a great ride out john, just a thank you from me to all the people that arranged the ride out and to the people who raced ahead to mark the way so we didn't get lost. brill :D
Just a quick thank you from me also. Superbly organised ride out with a great route. Thanks very much to all concerned in setting up and running todays ride!
I made it back OK - 345 miles in a day was fine :riding:
I enjoyed it - meeting old friends and making a few new ones. Hello Debs
I have some pics but meed to resize 'em before posting.

Glad you got home OK, Jabba :D
Just home from the pub. What a fabbo day  Nobody crashed, nobody dropped their bike, nobody got plod and, thanks to the markers, nobody got lost.
I thought there were about 70 bikes there. Leaving Dinkys at the back - what a sight. And also leaving Harry Tuffins at Churchstoke - all those bikes 8) and the noise 8) 8) 8)

Well, I guess by this time half of us (including me) are getting up at home after riding back and half are nursing campsite party induced hangovers. Wish I'd been able to camp but I've had so much business travel lately I needed to spend some time at home. Now spending Sunday painting outside walls on the house :(
Many many thanks to John, Ed and others who helped organise a great day. At a first look at the route I thought the sections were too short and there were too many breaks, but it's much better to be able to stop, wander round and have a chat at a few places on the way. If we just rode around with one stop in the middle, got back and split up, it wouldn't be half as enjoyable.
Having forum name and first name on stickers is a good idea to instantly put names to faces.
Gald no-one came a cropper, though I believe there was a close shave or two.
Safe ride back to all campers, and I'm looking forward to AR07, hopefully camping this time.
Cheers Keith

Got back in just after 8pm last night. Topcat and I did just over 400 miles on the day, 170'sh each way, plus two thirds of the route.
Typical "AR", good to put faces to names and say hello to people I haven't seen for a while, which was probably AR05 . Most of the route was fine, (not too sure about the B roads sprinkled with gavel though  ) Had a great ride up and back too.
John, Ed, & the crew, thanks for taking the time to sort it all out, I know how much effort you have to put in, and getting it right is never easy.
Will defo be looking to do a ride out that way again; found some new roads to add to the collection:
A44 Worcester to Leominster*
A49 Leominster to Shrewsbury
The bit of the A458 we did as well...
And a couple of brownie points have got to go out to those that travelled down from Scotland, all this chat 9 months ago about it being too far for the northerners... And I though you lot were meant to be "hard bikers"
See you all next year I guess
And remember, it's "Lemster" not "Leo Minster" - Cheers Darryl....

What a brilliant weekend. I'm so glad I decided to go.
big list of thanks, but all well deserved:
John, Ed and Daryl for finding the perfect weekend location, route, doing all the other legwork and for the hospitality.
Mr F Wheel and Mr J the Hutt for feeding my need for speed so wonderfully, competently, graciously and safely. You both made it very special.
Mr N Wind for indulging me with an unexpected chunk of naughtiness. Your generosity knows no bounds.
Ms Rizla SV for not snoring.
Mr S Squid for getting me there and back
Mr and Mrs Jboy for the ham sandwiches and (almost ) dinner and getting me home in time
Mr Q Wichard for the hostess trolley
Everyone that got invovled in marshalling - never been on such a smooth course.
And hon menshes to absolutely everyone else that was there for being such great fun, keeping it safe and sound and for making it all worthwhile. You guys are what keeps me going.

I must echo the general sentiment, what a weekend!
The idea of a more social event worked extremely well I thought and we all got to meet people behind the usernames (to either confirm or dispel any preconceptions), great campsite by the looks of things and decent grab & beer from the pub, top job.
After meeting at the Ace for lunch with Jonboy (sorry Greg I failed to mention it was 1 o’clock normal time; not Zulu or anything), and a predictably delayed set off time, we were underway, ness having ridden the route before lead an enjoyable “A” road course up there, a few niggles on the way, but nothing we couldn’t overcome, and all arrived safely.
Not long after the fun bus arrived (Squids camper), great constructs of polls & canvas (OK nylon then) ranging from the £8 variety to though a lot more elaborate.
A bit to eat & pint , a chin wag, and then off to Ed’s (couple of miles away) to sort out his most generous offer of accommodation ( thanks Ed, not an aching bone in site for the ride out, well none of mine anyway), back down for a little more socializing then turned in for the night.
Shot back down the campsite in the morning just it time for the rabble moving (well planned start time), and made our way over to the start. Following Johns briefing off we set. After a few minor difficulties the modified marker system ran smoothly and worked well throughout the day, a very nice mix of progressive and relaxed roads on the route, with plenty of stops for the “and I was going into that corner and” chats, which I think all appreciated .
NO breakdowns accidents or people lost, as far as I’m aware, so an outstanding job by any yard sticks.
Back safe and sound, freshen up then back for the evening session, bikes tucked away and a most welcome taxi service from Johns daughter to the pub, general merriment and alcohol consumption followed, which lubricated tales of the day as well as more that a few of us! Point of note the SSS (Squid, Shrewsbury, Sensation, gazebo outside his camper) was regularly interrupted by a very strange noise, until I was informed it was Jiffy snoring!
Pickup just after midnight as arranged, although I could have made a pretty good attempt at floating back to Eds.
Met up with the guys the following lunchtime, and said our goodbyes, set off home, some great roads were covered and all went well (apart for the fuel thing, but no biggy, thanks Ricardo), got back to the Ace, had a brew, watched the TT ride about with a far more attractive rider on it than myself.
Kicked off for home, Matt followed me down and turned off for home at the Oval, that’s the last person gone, the true end to this years ride out, and what a blinding time!
Highlights, well just too many to recall right now, the topic of many a discussion over the coming weeks no doubt, but the vectra diesel wanting to out drag me when I was overtaking, that lasted all of 1.25 second!
The sight & sound of 67 bikes passing when I marked some of the turns.
Turning up at the campsite, stopping the bike, and being handed a beer, quality that.
All told 521 miles “door to door” so to speak, was a little concerned as I only got the bike the last Tuesday evening, but it performed faultlessly, although I did find out the hard way it only has 23.7 miles on reserve (yes I ran out of juice 1.6 miles from the service we’d planned for refueling on the way back) but I got to practice ringing it’s neck, fun if a little juvenile, about my only regret was now having the beast with me( no my triple, who mentioned the Mrs.), but there’s always next year.
Top job boys & girls, AR07 bring it on.
Cheers Mark.

I would just like to add my thanks to everyone involved. Both those that organised things, and those that took part. I arrived home about 3pm, after doing 545 miles.
I must have missed it, but where is the thread for AR07?????
Cheers

Well what can I say except thanks to everyone who was involved in organising AR06 and all the guys & girls from this site who served to make it a really great trip. Nice to finally meet so many of you from elsewhere in the country, and to spend more time with those from the South East Massives who make being a biker down this neck of the woods so much fun.
Got back safe & sound yesterday pm after an absolutely cracking ride back and was promptly handed a beer and a plate of BBQ food - weekends don't get much better!
