pass on my best wishes for a speedy recovery.

hey guys
hope you had a good time on the ride out today, we got half way round with you lot but then got lost as we got stuck behind a truck!
Yep,
Had a good ride down to Rye after losing the group then a nice ride to H's.
Hey Dudes
Thanks for a great day, and to Jake for organising it.
Sorry that we lost a couple of you, even at the 1st turn. I hope that you returned home safe. Just remember next time, that to keep the bike behind you in sight, and at a junction, if there isnt a bike in sight behind you, wait at the junction where they can see you.
Still, and enjoyable day if a little wet...but then thats a SELKent ride.
Photos here (http://forums.sv650.org/viewtopic.php?t=36976&start=0&postdays=0&postorder=asc&highlight=) please
Cheers guys, a thoroughly enjoyable day even if it was in the piddling rain...
Thanks to Rictus for leading to Rye, and Viney for heading up the rear. Once we'd sorted the 'rider behind in your mirrors' technique things went smoothly! And thanks to everyone who braved the weather with us!
I apologise to the fella on the viffer (don't know your username) for riding 'like a c*nt' and hope your shout made you feel better for it
Till next time
I apologise to the fella on the viffer (don't know your username) for riding 'like a c*nt' and hope your shout made you feel better for it
:-k mmm... I wonder who that would be :?: And was it an isolated incident :?: :-k
Cheers for a brilliant route jake
I don't know who he was to be honest lol just he was on a VFR
And I only noticed I cut him up once cos he beeped. What dya expect me to do... sit behind the same person at the same pace and not overtake? None of my overtakes were dangerous, except the last one, which was a little dodgy I admit... but flying off the hook like that was a bit ott...
Thanks JakeRS for organsing todays rideout. Despite the conditions I still enjoyed the day and rode some nice roads, great route.
Hope to meet you all again soon.
In the meantime, safe riding.
Cheers

Just got back in myself, enjoyable ride, yes it was wet, but not so wet, wasn't cold at all, given the traffic it actually add a bit of spice at times
I've done the first bit a number of times in the dry and although faster perhaps no harder, it's a very different beasty to today.
Thanks for planning it Jake, I'm sure you'll have picked up a few pointers for any future runsa you organise.
she who can't be names, impressed me today, a marked improvement in road position and riding stance (who says women don't like pain :shock:/ OK they may not like it but it improves them  ).
After leaving "H's" shot off down to the A28 turning and waited at the A252, last chance for a couple of pics of the boys going passed.
Over to Ashford, pop in to see Lynn, then cross country back down to Rye, up to the B2162 on a reverse of our morning route, cut across to the B2017 and on to the A26 down to the B2176, across above the A264 to the B2026 and on to that little road I was talking about the B2028 ( you got to try this one at some time guys). follow it though to New Chappel on the A264 and around the back of the airport, wigglies up the other side through Newdigate, coming out at Betchworth, up Peddle Coombe hill, cut over to the A217, down to banstead, across to the purley way and home.
that's 248 Miles today, just about all in the rain, and not a cold or wet spot in sight.
Result.
See you for the next one.
Going for a soak in the bath now, but will post pics a little later.
Cheers Mark.

Yeah top day, was good apart from the little and unwarrented spat at the end. Jeez get a grip man, all it needed was a quiet word!. Just a little point, I know you may think I'm biased being Jakes dad but I honestly believe he's one of the safest riders I know and it he did cut you up, it was purely unintentional! there, I've said my bit
Well done for today Jake, you're no longer a virgin! :D

I thought it was well deserved for Supervox to do that IMHO, you rode like a **** and cut the nose off me twice. No we don't expect people to stay behind in the same pace, but giving people plenty of room when you do overtake would be nice. A couple of times you overtook where it was ****ing dangerous, and you should leave that style of riding for the track! No body is a perfect rider and i know that i am nowhere near, but today i think you took the ****!!
All in all it was a very good day, and i'm looking forward to the next one, heres hoping for the sunshine :D

Well I'm happy to say I'm sorry I did that, cos ya didn't shout at me :D
And I'm not sure about my 'dangerous' overtakes, as you can see by my scars I've done my time in a hospital bed, done the bikesafe and learnt where to overtake. If you thought I was dangerous thats fair enough its your opinion  but no hard feelings I hope

Just so you know this wasn't isolated to just Supervox and I, and in future give more room when overtaking, bikes use just as much of the road as a car and I will use all of my lane. So don't sit in it when you are overtaking. Give people more space, and make sure you have enough room once you have passed, its not up to the guy you have just passed to make sure you have enough room. People correct me if i'm wrong but that is why i am ****ed.

Thanks for a fun ride out guys, somehow for most of the ride the rain seemed to hit the visor, but not quite make it to the ground :D
Dan, just so you don't feel left out, I managed to run as a 325 single for part of the ride, in your honour :P
Anyway, time to change socks (waterproof boots, my a*se).
Well have to do a similar route again in the future, maybe labled up something else to confuse the weather :D
Thanks again
Ah they went smooth enough just not used to the large groups... lol..
Well I'm happy to say I'm sorry I did that, cos ya didn't shout at me :D
So you startled someone enough for them to shout at you - get over it, one day you might do the same thing.
And I'm not sure about my 'dangerous' overtakes, as you can see by my scars I've done my time in a hospital bed, done the bikesafe and learnt where to overtake. If you thought I was dangerous thats fair enough its your opinion  but no hard feelings I hope
Jake
A couple of days of Bikesafe isn't going to give you all the experience you need to over take someone. By the sounds of it, you learnt something today - go away with it and ask yourself why you did what you did.
If you think you can take risks on a bike, even by startling another rider - think again, you're thinking for yourself, and every single person around you. One mistake on a bike can be instantly fatal - there is no forgiveness. If someone shouted at you, then I'm sure they felt they had good reason.

point(s) also taken lol
Now do you understand why I pm'd you about your "keep in sight of person in your mirrors" marking?
The visordown Easter tour was not slow by any means - pillion on the Pan we weren't hanging about either. Not one rider was lost or was bunched up causing these problems on overtakes. Everyone rides at their own speed knowing its straight on unless a junctions marked. Means a wait for those doing it, but it works well and avoids these problems. Just something you really may want to consider for the next one - it will spread people out a lot more safely tbh.
I was only going to comment on your bikesafe comment - but Billy beat me to it. Just because you've done it doesn't mean you haven't lapsed back to bad habits or mean you're invulnerable to making mistakes. Don't become complacent about your riding or training you've done.
Keep doing them, keep your riding reviewed, keep learning. Thats the best advice I can give you tbh.

... and if one of them ends up sliding down the road because someone put themself in a compromising position - they can at least rest assured that they should have been expecting it.
Sorry, but if a rider scares another, it's right to ensure that they know what they did, and that they need to take measure to improve - iron out the problem quickly before someone gets hurt, or worse.

by the way, the views expressed by myself are not nessecarily those of Jake. I just dont think it was appropriate of him to shout and swear like that. A quiet word would have done and if jake had been a ****, I would have been the first to accept it and to have spoken to him myself. Dont forget, I've seen the result of his accident and I would not accept him riding like a ****. If he had been (and I didn't see any eveidence myself) then I appologise on his behalf. But make no mistake, I will not stand idly by while someone shouts and swears 2 inches from his face. ITS JUST NOT ON!

I wont say anymore because jake doesn't want this to reflect on him in the forum and I respect his wishes. But if we cant discuss issues in an adult manner without resorting to shouting and swearing, and intimidation then I think I'd rather ride on my own in future.
point of fact.... myself and the guy concerned had a quiet word after and cleared things up and shook hands. I understand why he was ****ed, but he also understood why I stood up to protect Jake. Jake has seen the error of his ways, (put it down to youthful exuberance if you like) and I'm sure he will give a bit more room next time so please dont hold this against him (or me for trying to protect him!)

Anyway... for the kind of weather, road, bikes and riders... I'm glad everybody did it safely home....
Neet to to do more roads like that, I don't go fast with tarmac that I don't know and some bits weren't on the best conditions!!! I guess I have to stop using MXX type roads so much.
by the way, the A268 is just brilliant!!! I enjoyed being alone on that road... (got lost after the first traffic lights stop and had to make up a new route to Rye)
Nice to see you all!!!
have a goooooooood week!

Personally think there's a large difference between using capitals on a forum and getting in my face, (and it was right in my face) and shouting his lungs off. Admittedly he apologised and said it was the wrong thing to do, but the whole situation would have been resolved a lot better if a quiet word was the only thing used and the shouting never happened..

Well anyway, a good ridout, with some nice roads (even if some of us got to enjoy slightly different "nice roads" to the main group  ) After we'd lost a few at the start the keeping an eye out method worked well. This, by the way is totally elastic and works pretty much like Lyn said without there being "official" markers, if you can't see someone behind you when you get to a turn off, just wait as a marker. Job done
On this note, thanks to the bloke on the Red ZX6R G model (sorry didn't catch your name) who got so keen to mark every junction he ended up getting lost after he waited for the next person after Mr Backmarker Viney. Cheers for all your efforts and glad you caught back up!
Cheers as ever to Rictus, Viney and others who helped keep the group running smoothly.

I guess this is partly my fault  . I noticed in my mirrors some riders had not exited Oakdene but hoped they would catch up. When I approached the 7 mile lane turning I fully anticipated to stop just on the junction but a car following very closely and another entering the junction did not allow me to do this. Therefore, I had no other option than to stop 100 yds up the lane. I waited there for a few minutes before turning around and riding back to the junction. By this time Viney was approaching the turning, I think we waited a few more minutes before riding on.
Apologises if my actions caused some of you to get lost. I'm glad hook or by crook the majority all met up in Rye.
Maybe next time everyone should be reminded to keep 1 or 2 riders in their mirrors and mark junctions if this is not the case.

Just to add my 2p worth...and it is only minor....for the next ride-out....lets respect the 30mph limits through the villages :? They are there for a reason (kids, pets, old-folk, the noise factor and above all safety...) :) :) :)
