I absolutely love Dream Theater. What I liked about Octavarium was that it isn't quite as heavy as some of the others- it's a bit more diverse and mixed/produced to have wider appeal- Panic Attack seems to have real Muse leanings, whereas Octavarium really takes after Shine On You Crazy Diamond (at the start, anyway!).
Train Of Though, however, is so heavy that I have to keep the CD on a reinforced table!!! Some of those riffs would sit nicely on a Sabbath album- and are the reason I'd like to get a 7 string guitar at some point. Deep, deep chugging...
Anyone listened to any Patrick Rondat? French guitarist- in the Classical metal fusion, but also quite melodic - his album Rape of the Earth is great.

Zappa's a sort of love him or hate him sort of character. Picked this album because I've consistently listened to it over the years and never get tired of it.
Really! I must have listen again soon. I bought a vinyl copy a year or so, in a charity shop and I'm not sure I've played it yet. My only real FZ exposure has been a 'best of' CD which I absolutely lurve. No-one else in the family does tho'...

Sorry Bri, that's not the best track, Dance on a Volcano is the best.
If you've ever seen the film of this album the drum duel/duet between Phil Collins & Chester Thompson is amazing. I can't resist playing the air drums, even if I'm driving!
But I'll +1 with you on this as one of my all time fav albums
